Seoul Dookbaegi1031 Kingsway St., Vancouver
Cute little place in East Vancouver
Submitted Wednesday, June 6, 2007 - 11:03pm [Dine in]

Seoul Dookbaegi is a nice little family owned and operated restaruant. I've been here many times, and each time the food has been great. They have all the usual Korean menu items and the prices are similar to other Korean places. The woman that serves us is friendly and usually recommends ordering the dolsot bibimbap (in the stone pot) instead of regular bibimbap (in bowl). Their Korean seafood pancake is also really good. The restaurant has nice decor and a cozy feel to it.

Amazing lunch specials
Submitted Wednesday, June 6, 2007 - 12:42am [Dine in]

Pad Thai has great lunch specials for $5.50. I think this price is really good since you get the main dish and a spring roll. The dishes can be made vegetarian at your request.

I love the yellow curry with chicken. It's so flavourful and has bell peppers and pineapple chunks. Like other reviewers have said, the pad thai isn't that great and has too much ketchup sauce. So go with the fried rice and curries.

The place is really small too (maybe 10 tables) so many people would order take out instead. The woman owner is really nice and friendly. I enjoy coming here to get thai food because I know you can get a large portion of tasty food at a cheap price.

Pretty good Izakaya place
Submitted Wednesday, June 6, 2007 - 12:31am [Dine in]

I came here with my coworkers last week and I have to disagree with some of the earlier posts. We ordered sukiyaki hot pot, beef and enoki mushroom roll, salmon sashimi, takoyaki, a bbq beef dish, okinoyaki?, oyster motoyaki, grilled onion, beef carpacio, a steamed egg with seafood dish, kunpao beef, and kimchee udon. All the dishes except the kimchee udon was presented well and tasted great. The kimchee udon was soggy and we thought t was going to be pan fried.

The restaurant decor is lovely and has a nice modern ambiance. The servers were not bad. They do have alchoholic drinks. When we were there, they had a cocktail drink special where you can mix and match a type of liquor with juice/pop. Depending on how much you eat, the price can really add up. The bill for the four of us came to around $120.

Good Variety of Cheap Dim Sum
Submitted Wednesday, June 6, 2007 - 12:17am [Dine in]

Dai Tung is a good place to get a large variety of cheap dim sum. They are sooo busy on the weekends and holidays. You might be able to get a table faster if you are willing to share a table other people. I think the quality of the dim sum is pretty good. They have all the regular dim sum (ha gow, siu mai) and loads of different special dishes. There salted chicken rice is very tasty and popular, so try one if you are able to get it from the waitress! The service is not too great, probably because they want to get you in and out quickly. The place is a bit small and tables are a bit squished together. But overall, I've been coming to this place for dim sum for years, and I don't mind it at all.

Yummy food Jang Mo Jib
Submitted Wednesday, June 6, 2007 - 12:07am [Dine in]

I come to Jan Mo Jib whenever I feel like getting Korean food. The dishes they serve are really good. I especially like the spicy tofu and mushroom soup. The bbq dishes are flavourful and tasty. The bulgogi is awesome! The staff are pretty friendly here, but they seemed to be understaffed. When I was here, the waiters take turns going outside and make the bbq dishes and then bring them to you. So sometimes it is hard to get hold of the staff. The restaurant is pretty big and has a nice atmosphere. I've been to the downtown Jang Mo Jib too and both locations have great Korean food! I definitely recommend this place!
