Good Food and Service

my friends and family have been patronizing the metrotown area eateries for years (work and now live in the area). we like to try new restaurants but we always circle back to our favorites when we haven't planned the night out. we particularly tend to go asian and we love thai food (basil, spiciness and my girlfriend loves the chilis). thai houses have been around as long as i've been on the west coast and the metrotown location is a standby for us. we've been to the other thais and they're ok but the thai house is truly a gem. we love their shrimp cakes, calamari (a thai twist), and their lettuce wrap with ostrich (no kidding) is delicious. if we're entertaining, we definitely order their crab with their special yellow curry sauce and seafood (scallops, mussels, clams) infused into the delicious sauce. my girlfriend also loves their pineapple fried rice. we tend to wash it all down with either a thai iced tea (interesting concoction) or a royale thai drink (lychee based frothy drink). typically asian, there aren't a whole lot of dessert choices (but my nephew always enjoy their choices of ice cream or deep fried bananas). but after a meal of spice and curries, i'm stuffed as it is.

their service is fine. not too chatty folks but courteous and efficient and they're good with suggesting a compliment to an order. so if you're in the mall area and looking for eats, you really can't go wrong with stopping here - there's ample parking too.

good health and good eats!

let's try again

i was here last year and was not impressed but decided to give them another try - especially when you're out voted.

this time we went for a very early dinner as we all decided to close the office early. we ordered the spring rolls and shrimp cakes for appetizer and a chicken curry, mixed vegetables, with pad thai for entrees.

result: the shrimp cake was decent, spring rolls very greasy, chicken curry was watery but ok in taste, mixed vegetables were very bland and "stouffer" like, and pad thai was passable.

i wish the rating allowed for a scale between poor and decent (like an ok), but short of this i'd have to say the food was closer to poor.

sorry, but with the threat of layoffs, i'm not sure i'll risk another trial.

Anton's Pasta Bar4260 E Hastings Street, Burnaby
big servings

a group of us went to antons after work as one of our members was starving but thrifty. one member mentioned the humungous portions and the likelihood of a "pack it home" bag.

we ordered and were not disappointed. the quantity was certainly big but the quality was quite average.

if you want a deal (and another meal the next day) then this is the place to go for pasta. i'd certainly go back, not with a date, but with my hockey team...
