Pho So Good
Submitted Monday, October 4, 2010 - 3:29pm [Dine in]

I have been to Pho Tam many times and I'm happy to say that it's consistent. You walk in and notice the cafeteria style seating, looks uninviting and seems as though it belongs in that neighborhood. This place is definitely lacking when it comes to ambience. The service is typical of any Pho house, you must ask for service and be very specific about what you want. The washrooms are always clean and this place is always busy, you can expect to see people from all walks of life. As soon as you have your first taste of the Pho you forget about everything else, this is the only thing that counts. They have many varieties I usually stick with combo 5 ( raw steak and flank ) large and spicy please! The broth is by far the best I've had in surrey, the noodles are just right and the meat is plentiful. The salad rolls are nicely done, iced coffee is great, I'm not a huge fan of their spring rolls ( to much oil still in the roll ). None the less great Pho and its consistently great, it keeps me coming back.

Small place Big flavor
Submitted Tuesday, September 28, 2010 - 3:04pm [Dine in]

I have been here a few times for the Pho and Salad Rolls and I have yet to be disappointed. This place is quite small maybe 10 seats or so and the decor is nothing special. I do not come here for the atmosphere, I come here strictly for the good Pho. This is a small mom and pop shop that is locally owned and operated. I always order my Pho with spicy broth and the flavor keeps me coming back. The Salad Rolls are fresh with a good amount of pork and the peanut sauce on the side is quite good. The iced coffee is quite nice. brewed to your own strength and refreshing. The ceramic bowl and spoons are a nice touch it adds to the overall Pho experience. I do not recommend taking the Pho to go, the noodles get stuck together and the broth cools down, its never as good as eating it fresh form the kitchen.

Flavorless Pho
Submitted Tuesday, September 28, 2010 - 2:27pm [Dine in]

So I had lunch at Stanley Restaurant today with a friend who says this is his regular spot for Pho. Walking in I was very impressed with the layout of the restaurant, it was clean, looked very nice and was probably the best looking Pho place I have seen in a long time. The place filled up rather quickly with people form all walks of life. The service was good, as with any Pho place you have to ask for exactly what you want. We ordered the Salad Roll my friend had House special and I had the Rare Steak and Flank Pho. The Salad Roll and peanut sauce was well executed and refreshing. The Pho came with generous amount of good quality meat, the noodles were cooked perfectly, the broth does not come spicy from the kitchen you have to add your own chili oil, and it was lacking in flavor. I added the lime, chili oil and sriracha sauce but it still seemed as though something was missing. I may go back to try the rice dishes but I will not be calling this my regular Pho spot.

New Owners?
Submitted Tuesday, September 28, 2010 - 1:49pm [Dine in]

I used to go to Pho Vinh all the time, it was great, fast and local. I recently went back for some Pho and was greeted by and unfamiliar face. I ordered the Tai Nam ( rare steak, well done brisket in rice noodle soup ) with spicy broth. The flavors in the broth were quite nice, the noodles were nicely done. There was a lack of meat compared to what is normally given, and I had to ask for sprouts, jalapenos, and limes, I don't know if this is because I am not of Asian decent but the waitress seemed to be taken back when I asked for something that should come with a normal bowl of Pho. The fresh lemon soda was quite nice and refreshing not too sweet, just right. I don't know if I would come back but this will definitely not be my regular Pho spot.

Pho No Good!
Submitted Tuesday, September 28, 2010 - 1:31pm [Dine in]

So after hearing about this place from a coworker I decided to take a couple of friends with me to try out the Pho at Noodle Island. Inside the restaurant looks like the typical Pho place, normal seating nothing outstanding. All three of us ordered the same thing Tai Nam Ve Don ( rare steak, well done brisket, and crunchy flank in rice noodle soup ), with spicy broth, I also ordered fresh lemon juice and soda water to drink. The food looked promising however the broth was flavorless, noodles were nicely done, not over cooked, but I could not get over the lack of flavor. They gave us a sweet garlic sauce that I guess was supposed to go with the Pho. I had to ask for jalapenos and hoisin sauce, my friend had to add sauce to every bite just to make it taste like anything. My lemon soda was so loaded with sugar that I could not drink more then my very first sip, I convinced my friend to try a sip he compared it to drinking liquid sweet and low. I will not be back, and I do not recommend the Pho at Noodle Island.
