Paul's Sub Shop4608 Imperial St., Burnaby
But Amazing Submarines for what it's worth
Submitted Friday, June 25, 2010 - 5:20pm [Dine in]

I saw this place driving to the bank the other day and decided to check it out today. This place is a nice little diner for grilled submarine sandwiches. The place is cash only and the owner was super friendly, this place might be authentic Italian, not too sure. On the outside of the store, there was a sign that read, "Paul's Sub Shop: Famous Grilled Subs since 1971". Now normally, I don't believe most places that claim they are famous for something because all places do that nowadays. This place was a different story.
I got the Paul's special which was a rib-eye steak sandwich, capicola (Italian ham) with provolone cheese and all the toppings: tomatoes, lettuce, grilled onions, and their special vinigrette dressing. The woman was friendly and after I paid her, it took about 5 mins to make, so I sat there observing their nice checkered red table cloths. She handed me the bag and I went home. The bag initially seemed kinda light, but in my mind I was thinking, "this better be worth the money I paid." I got home, unwrapped the nice authentic tinfoil and took a bite. Oh...My...God... This was like heaven in a submarine sandwich, the toppings were delicious and the grilled onions were to die for. The sandwich was amazingly delicious, the cheese was gooey, tomatoes were fresh and the capicola combined with the shaved steak was awesome. Instead of Paul's, they should have named it Grace cause this place was amazing.
This might be on my last meal list if I ever end up on death row or something. Really, this sandwich was that good. The only problem was that the 6 inch sub I got costs about 8 bucks and a 12' inch was $15. This sandwich place is in my good books, superb. It's across from Mayberry elementary in Burnaby, close to Metrotown. If you are in the area, and you feel the urge to chomp down a steak sandwich, go here. This place is one of the hidden gems of the lower mainland.

Real Szechuan Food
Submitted Monday, June 7, 2010 - 9:03pm [Dine in]

The food here may be Taiwanese, but somebody in the kitchen must have lived in Szechuan for a while to learn their cuisine. This food is pretty authentic (family from Szechuan) in terms of spicyness and flavor cause not many places know how to cook real Szechuan food, so far this is the only place I've known.

Been coming to this place for over 12 years. If you ever go to Szechuan and sample food, the ambiance is just like this. Hot food at a fast pace. Be prepared to wait in line for 15, 30 mins cause Reservations are pretty much a 'must have'.

This place is constantly busy, so don't be offended if you can't get in, the food and business is that GOOD. My favorites on the menu are the Pork Organ Stew, Hot and Sour Soup, Beef stirfry in Chili sauce and the spicy eggplant are to die for. Every time my family go to eat here, it's the same things that we order because authenticity is hard to find, but this place is a truely a gem.

Speaking of which, I will be going again before July 1st. This place is frequented by my family and I at least once a month.

Happy eats!
