Really good food
Submitted Saturday, June 2, 2012 - 10:08pm [Dine in]

Food 9/10 Had the scallops and the wife had pork belly as appetizers and both were fantastic. Actually kind of cheap, I think they were both $8 which is really low for fine dining so we were expecting something mediocre but they were not by any means. For mains I had mushroom cannelloni and she had Hopcott Farms chicken with gnocchi. Agian top notch. Didn't have dessert just small points off as the bread clearly was not homemade although it was still good

Service 8/10 The girl who looked after us was great, polite and fun. Service just a little slow at times but understandable they were full

Value 7/10 Appetizers cheap, Mains about average for a fine dining place. Wine was fairly priced.

Ambiance 7/10 A beautiful view from the patio. They don't reserve patio tables they are first come first served which is a bit of a pain as we knew we wanted to sit out there on such a gorgeous night. They only have about 5 tables out there but thankfully one was open when we arrived

Nice place we"ll go back

Food 8/10 Had the Filet Mignon Burger (although I don't know who they think they are kidding pretending to make a burger out of Tenderloin) that was tasty, good fresh bun, topped with provolone and little deep fried onions. Good, not exceptional. The iced tea was fantastic, I had to ask if it was homemade as it was not cloyingly sweet, the waitress said they put a little lemon juice in it.

Service 7/10 Waitress did a fine job although the food took longer than I thought was reasonable. I sat on the patio and there was one other table in the whole place mid afternoon on a sunny Saturday, they were seated near me on the patio about 4 of them plus kids and they had obviously just ordered before me as my food came right after theirs. I was just about to ask about the wait when the food came.

Value 6/10 I think for the burger was $14.95 and Iced Tea with free refills apparently was $3.50. It was good but not sure it was $15 good.

Ambiance 7/10 I like their patio, comfortable furniture overlooking a little open space but could have been a little cleaner, there was food on the floor under my table and by my chair, leftover mushrooms that looked like they had been there a while, just kicked them away

I'll return at night when there is a little more action going on ... hopefully.

Could take it or leave it

Food 6/10 Beef dip was on a fresh bun, shaved beef piled high and was flavourful, fries seemed homemade but were very tasteless and almost tasted baked although they were not. Iced tea was so weak it looked like water, had to return it .. seemed obviously wrong, but waitress said she couldnt bring me another as the manager wasnt there? Had a diet coke instead. Took much longer than it should have to get my food based on how busy the place was.

Service 5/10 At a Friday lunch when they were not too too busy, it was barely adequate. Had to ask for a menu, the iced tea issue, slow service, no quality check.

Value 7/10 $14.50 including tax and tip was very fair, would have scored higher if not for the above issues.

Ambiance 6/10 In what looks to be an old house, different areas with different vibes which I like, but the dining area I chose was ridiculously dark and the table was wobbly.

Interesting place

Food 7/10 Had the vegan and gluten free mac and cheese, with a side of vegan toast. Toast was good, top layer of the mac and cheese was really great, but the noodles underneath were a little tasteless and bland. Definately needed something to jazz up the rest of the dish

Service 8/10 Friendly welcome, quality check, asked about drink refill, but didn't tell me about the daily special chick pea stew, saw it on a sign at the register when I was paying

Value 7/10 $9.22 for the smallish portion, but vegan cheese and gluten free pasta is more expensive so I understand

Ambiance 3/10 Maybe I just dont get the whole concept, but four tables with a total of 12 chairs plus two bar stools all different, random art, kids things all over the place. It's not that it doesn't fit the new snooty Port Moody vibe but that its just genuinely, in my opinion, uncomfortable and awkward

I'll continue to walk by when in the neighbourhood, but probably wont go back to try anything else unless I see a comfortable table and chair to sit at

Chef's day off?
Submitted Sunday, April 29, 2012 - 8:24pm [Dine in]

After stopping in for a burger a few days ago, and giving Woody's a generally favourable review, I stopped by today for another as I was in the area. What a difference. After sitting down and having several waitresses walk by me, speaking to and looking after tables right next to me, FINALLY someone asks if I've been helped.

Ordered the Triple Cheese, Mushroom, Chipotle Burger and this time it was terrible. Different buns than last time, dry and stale so that it broke apart in my hands. Cheese not melted, not a hint of chipotle, Fries were cold and tasteless, burger patty was dry and overcooked.

No quality check from the waitress until well after I was done.

A brutal effort. What a difference a few days makes.

Food 7/10 Had a basic cheeseburger with fries. It was as simple as you can get in a burger,, bought in patty, bought in fries, plain bun but prepared perfectly for what it was. Hot, juicy, cheese melted, fries hot. Not gourmet but good for what it was

Service 7/10 Attentive staff on a busy night, although a couple moved next to me because they were having difficulty flagging down anyone where they were previously seated. My only issue is that after ordering and waiting a reasonable 10 minutes, I was told that the food would be a little longer because they had a fundraiser in the back room and were backed up in the kitchen. Fair enough, I appreciate the heads up ... HOWEVER, someone seated near me whom was obviously a regular because his girlfriend showed up and was given a beer without having to order because they knew what she drank, ordered well after me and got his food well before me. Clearly, put his order above mine, not impressed

Value 8/10 Burger and fries about $10, can't complain

Ambiance 7/10 Typical busy pub, the commotion coming from the fundraiser in the back was mildly annoying

Little to like

Food 4/10 Ordered Enchilada Verde with Chicken, and found the food to be very blah. Enchilada, lukewarm and little flavour. Same goes for the Refried Beans and Spanish Rice. Not terrible, but just lacking in any flavour.

Service 5/10 I was the only person there at lunch time mid week, so I would expect to be looked after. Order taken, food brought, not much else. Spilled food from the plate on the table as he brought it, and was very difficult to understand what he was saying (see value)

Value 3/10 Would have thought the value kind of poor based on the quality of the food as it was, even moreso when overcharged. When I got the bill I was thinking that the menu said $7.95 but the bill said $8.95. When I was given the bill he mumbled twice something about price (the only word I could make out) while pointing at the candy that came with the bill? Thought maybe I was mistaken, but read the menu posted on the window on the way out and it WAS $7.95. Not a huge menu, hard for me to accept he just charged me the wrong price. Felt cheated.

Ambiance 5/10 Quaint little place, actually feels modestly Mexican inside, but being the only one there I could clearly hear not only traffic noise but also the Mexican music in the diningroom AND what sounded to be opera coming loudly from the kitchen at the same time, and the frequent opening, closing and pushing buttons of the microwave that they were obviously using to make my lunch.

Not impressed. My first and last visit. Check your bill folks.

Food 7/10 ... Small Salmon and Chips, sign said 1 1/2 pieces, but two equally sized pieces came. Homecut fries were good. Everything was hot and made to order. Found the serving method interesting but not too practical, they serve a large paper cone (with trivia and interesting facts printed on it) full of fries with the fish on top, you put the whole thing into holes cut in the picnic tables, but if you want ketchup on your fries and tartar on your fish like I do, it's impossible. Everything gets mixed together.

Service 8/10 ... It's basically a concession stand so as long as you smile, keep the condiment stand stocked and don't take too long to make my order I'll be happy, and they did

Value 7/10 ... $10.49 can't complain, didn't scream out terrific value, but was completely acceptable

Ambiance 9/10 ... Hey it's in a park almost right on the water, what's not to like?
