Old school charm

This was one of the better restaurants that I've been in for a long time. We were greeted immediately at the door. We got a seat in a nice corner. The wine and martini lists has a good selection. I had a martini to start and some wine with dinner. We ordered the Antipasto platter for 2 which was a great start to the meal. With crostini, olives, meats and cheeses. I ordered the rib-eye steak and my boyfriend ordered the veal chop. Both were melt in your mouth good. The portion size was good. I can never get dessert because it is so filling. The sides of seasonal vegetables and mashed potato for mine and gratin for the veal chop was good. On this night there was live jazz. It felt very old school Hollywood steak joint.

Our server was very attentive. Our water glasses were never empty and he pour my wine into my glass when it was getting low. Our utensils were replaced after each course.

I am very impressed by the whole ambiance. It was not too loud and the dark cherry wood added a great accent.
Overall I would recommend everyone to try at least once if not be a repeat customer (I know I am). It is a bit pricey but it is worth it.

Dine Out at Pinky's
Submitted Monday, January 26, 2009 - 12:07am [Dine in]

We went on a Sunday night and it was Dine Out Vancouver. We waited for about 15 minutes at the bar so it wasn't so bad. We got our drinks kind of slow since the bartender was running back and forth from kitchen to table to bar. When we got our table the server was very pleasant. She took our order and our appetizers came soon after. I had the French onion soup. The piece of cheesy toast was stuck onto the bowl. It proved difficult to pry off. The soup was a bit too salty for my taste. There was a table of 17 that came about 30 minutes prior so that took away our server for a big chunk of time. After appetizers we were waiting for a long time till the entrees were served. I had to ask why it was so late. It was due to the large table. I was not impressed with the service. The server should have told us this. The steaks were delicious. Cooked to my specification. We had the plush potato which is mashed potato deep fried on filo pastry and topped with scallions, sour cream and bacon bits. For dessert I had the chocolate chocolate chip ice cream. This was good . It was served in a silver dish and reminded me of Old Spaghetti Factory. Overall experience was decent, decor was funky. Music was good but I felt it was out of place with the setting. The Dine Out menu cost $28 which was good value but on the regular menu just the steak cost $29. It is definitely overpriced for the portion size that you get. I would not recommend you to go there on the regular menu.
