Great people

I pick up my coffee for home here, but sometimes get lunch here too.

Most of the staff are great, the owners are very friendly, and the breakfast burrito is the best thing in the world.

The soups I've tried have also been very good, tasting more home-made and authentic than most cafes you might stop into.

Free wifi and imacs to use now too.

Japanese Fast Food

The gang at work calls this place "Bucket O' Sushi" because the $6 lunches are massive.

But, they're pretty mediocre. Heavy on seasoning, thrown together, but not great sushi.

The gyoza in the lunch boxes are deep fried and not good. Sushi is flavorful due to plenty of mayo, salt, or sauce, but it's not the quality of the fish, or the harmonious balance of flavors that make it worth eating.

You definitely get a lot for your money, and it tastes "good", but is it really good japanese food? I don't think so.

Great sushi

I work nearby and love eating here. For the past few months, I ended up eating sushi at places closer to work, but after a visit here, remembered why I came so often in the first place.

The sushi is here very well balanced. Size, rice to fish ratio, seasoning of rice, and temperature are great.

Some standouts for me are the saba and chopped scallop. Great balance that a lot of other shops don't get right.

One thing I like to do is name how much I want to spend, some likes or dislikes and let the chef feed me. It's always worked out great for friends and I.

Best Chicken EVAR!

As the others have said, don't bring a date here. Don't come here looking for great french fries, or a salad and a chicken burger. Don't even bring the whole family together here. Don't stop in just to use the bathroom just because you're in the neighborhood.

Just show up and eat the spicy chicken. It is the best fried chicken in BC. The skin is crunchy and beautiful without being greasy like Church's. The meat if usually flavorful well past the surface unlike KFC. The chicken is decently sized and well priced unlike Popeye's when they were around.

I've even had the $18 fried chicken lunch at Fuel on 4th, but despite their noticeably superior starting point (polderside free range chicken I believe), the chicken batter there doesn't cling to the chicken properly, and doesn't have as satisfying a crunch as the chicken at L.A.

the fries are pretty mediocre, the potato coleslaw and salad are typical of a fast food joint, the diet coke is awful but I drink it anyway, but the chicken is good enough to make me rave about the place to anyone who will listen.

I occasionally order the famous recipe chicken, which is a blend of more interesting seasonings than on the spicy chicken, but the flavor doesn't penetrate the meat the same way. Once you're past the surface, the rest of the chicken is only ok. (the famous recipe wings are great though).

If you love fried chicken, this is it. Don't f*ck around. Go eat here now.

a new favourite

While the room isn't as interesting as Guu or Hapa Izakaya, the food is possibly even more interesting (tako wasabi, cuttlefish anchovy).

It's comfortable, the food is great, the bar menu large and drink specials nice. One of my new favourites, especially when I don't feel like lining up for izakaya food.
