After reading the reviews on this place for the past couple of years, I was finally able to go the other night. The food was good but not as good as I thought it would be!
I shared the chicken durum wrap with my daughter and my hubby had the beef durum wrap. The lavash bread used to make the wraps, are made fresh with each order so it does take a bit longer. The chicken wrap was delicious but nothing special about it. Because it is a Turkish I thought it would have a different type of taste. The beef I found was a bit dry. But this may be because it was about to close and it was the dribs and drabs. For $7.25 each, the value was not very good. Very pricey for what you got. I would go back to order the lavash bread to go. It is so neat to watch it bake in the oven and puff up!!
Service was really good. They were nice . . . not overly friendly.
The place was clean, and it did have, I assume Turkish trinkets hanging on the walls, on shelves but very plain looking place.
I don't think I will go back, as I did find the items pricey. I'm glad that I did try it though.
I had the falafel wrap for $3.99!! What a deal!!! She made them fresh! In the wrap, hummus was slathered on one side, then a bit of chopped iceberg lettuce, slices of tomato, big scoop of parsely mixture (I asked for extra!!!), then the falafels (3 in total), the yummy sauce and hot sauce and a dollop of tzatziki. After it was wrapped and it was warmed up in a grill. The best wrap I've had in a long, long time! And so filling! All for $3.99! I can't wait to go back!
The lady behind the counter was very, very nice but a tad slow! I can't imagine what it would be like if there was a crowd. Thank goodnesss I piped up when I saw her making falafels, that I was going to have the wrap too!! Or it would have been another 10 minute wait!!!
Value - $3.99 for the wrap!! The other food look great too and decently priced.
Ambiance - not much to say. This place shares space with a pizza joint. There were approximately 6-8 tables but not a place to take a date!
Yes, I definitely recommend this place!!! Did I mention that the wrap is $3.99???
Again, we went here to try out the dinner for Dine Out Vancouver, and again, we left quite pleased!
The food was delicious, served hot . . . only complaint is the plate was large and the food was put to the side so there was a large area with nothing on it. At Westward Ho, it's the $18 menu.
I had the Grilled BC Albacore Tuna with Wild Smoked Salmon. At first it was shocking to see how small it was but it was soooo tasty and just enough!! Everyone else had the Corn and Crab chowder, and reported that it was delcious!! For the main entree, I had the Crispy Skin Arctic Char on a bed of Butternut Squash Puree. This to was very yummy! My husband and Dad really enjoyed their oven roasted Pork Chop. My daughter said the chicken was delicious!! For dessert, the Triple Chocolate Pate was absolutley divine!!! My parents were able to get the Cheesecake which was also very tasty. We've been going here for Dine Out for the past few years and I don't think we've every been disappointed.
I went here with three friends and glad we chose this restaurant. It was busy but not too noisy and we didn't feel rushed. Service was excellent. He wasn't overbearing and came enough times to check on us. And when we said something tasted really good, he would thank us!! He didn't flinch when we didn't order any alcohol beverages like some places may. Ambience was very nice. Not too crowded and not too noisy . . maybe because it was a week night instead of a weekend. The only annoying thing was the TV was on and showing "40 Year Old Virgin"!! WHY???
Appetizer: Three of us had the Bocconcini Saltimbocca salad and one the Cauliflower with cheese sauce. Salad was amazing . . . the balsamic vinegar was delicious! Didn't care for the cheese sauce with the cauliflower. It would have been better without the sauce.
Entree: Three had the Coca Cola Beef short Ribs and one had the Chicken Breast with Tomato Masala Cream. Both dishes were extremely flavourful and so delicious. The Masala cream sauce was very, very, very yummy!!! I wanted more with rice.
Dessert: Two had the Black and Blueberry Crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream and two had the Chocolate Mousse with Candied Pecans. Both were delicious but very, very, very small.
All in all, it was worth every penny. It was the $18 menu and I would highly recommend this place!! Would I go back? Yes I would to try their regular menu!!!
Went here with my daughter for a quick lunch, as a friend told me about this place and said it was great. Well . . it's NOT!!!
We ordered a small bowl of noodles and soup, one spring roll and an order of chicken wings. We got a large bowl of noodle and soup and two spring rolls. What the heck was her problem?? Wax in her ears?? And when I said I wanted a small, she just stared at me. I hate wasting food, and this was not good tasting at all. My daughter loves all types of noodles and soup. She didn't finish the one bowl I scooped for her. I had to take the rest home, eventhough i didn't really like it. It ended up sitting in the fridge untouched!!!
Everything was luke warm. The spring rolls were small and tastless, the chicken wings were tiny. Not worth what we paid for.
Service was non-existent . . . no smile, nothing.
Ambiance . . . typical pho place.
Will I go back?? Definitely NOT!!!
I went here for dinner with my daughter . . . last day to use the Entertainment Coupon. My daughter checked out the website before we left for the restaurant and knew she wanted the Perogy Pizza!!!
We seated ourselves when we got there and a moment later, our server came by to ask if we wanted anything to drink. She was pleasant. But it did take a while for her to come back to see how things were and to get our bill.
My daughter went to the large window to watch them make the pizza. From when I went there many, many moons ago, they used to put on a real show. Not anymore. So that was very disappointing. (Reason for the mediocre rating for ambiance.) But the restaurant was very clean and felt very welcoming.
The pizza looked DElicious when it arrived at our table. And it was very, very tasty!! I just found the crust just a tad bit overcooked. But the topping was very good and the amount of cheese was very good and the taste was very good.
Because we had a coupon, the value was very good but I don't know if paying $27 would have been a good value pizza. (Rating of value is with using the coupon.)
Total we paid was $25 with tip. Would I go back?? Yes, if I had a coupon.
Went here for lunch with my friend today.
Food was good. I had the Spicy Combo which consisted of half a spicy tuna and salmon roll, spicy dynomite roll, spicy negitori and chopped scallop nigiri . . the fish tasted very fresh but this was not spicy enough. Also, found the seawood very tough to bite through, so ended up stuffing the whole roll into my mouth. Didn't like that at all!! My friend had the bento box - she liked it. It came with miso soup, california roll (which you can exchange for another roll and paying the difference), tempura (2 pieces), teriyaki chicken (or beef) over a huge mound of rice and the green salad. $22 for the two of us. To me, a bit pricey for lunch.
Service was good . . came around to refill cups with tea but at the end slowed right down.
I think the value was just ok. I think I can go elsewhere and get better sushi.
This place was clean wasn't too crowded. Would go back.
There were six of us that had a mini-holiday in Whistler this past summer. Our first night we had dinner here. BIG mistake!!! FYI - we love the Spaghetti Factory in Gastown and Richmond!!
The guy who was serving us was so slow and clumsy. Took forever to get our salads. The bread tasted old and looked old.
The portions up here are definitely smaller than the ones down in Vancouver.
Was not happy with experience here at all.
Avoid this place. Will not be going back!
I went here with my daughter and her friend. It was a cold and wet day. We ordered the large bowl of noodles and soup ($5.50) and three spring rolls ($2 each). All I can say is, the broth was the best tasting soup I've ever had!! It had wonderful flavours. The large was more than enough for the three of us! The spring rolls was soooo yummy! These are the Vietnamese spring rolls that I LOVE!! Nice and crunchy and so flavourful!!
Ambiance was ok . . . nothing to fancy but it was clean.
Service was very pleasant and fast.
Definitely will recommend this place to others and can't wait to go back for more Noodles and Soup!!
My hubby and I went here for lunch today. They had a steak, potato and coleslaw special for $10 which we ordered. We also ordered Chicken Wings at $0.35 each (a dozen) and a large plate of french fries for $5.00. Everything tasted good.
The service was good too. The waitress came around at the perfect time.
The ambiance was very nice too. Not too loud music and just very relaxing.
They have great lunch specials and it changes everyday. (Eg. Mexican burger $8!!!)
Would recommend this place and would go back!!!
Had a very nice dinner at Romer's.
A bit confusing when we first arrived. The hostess said that it would be a half an hour wait. I asked if we could sit at the counter, as there were already three settings made. She said we don't need to order drinks. I said we are here for dinner. It was the most bizarre converstation!! As soon as we sat down, three tables left the restaurant. Hmmmm . . . half an hour wait??
Anyway, our daughter liked where we were sitting as we could see the cooks prepare all the meals. I shared a Salmon burger with my daughter and hubby had the Man's Man burger. I had the Beet salad, daughter the Watermelon salad and hubby the french fries. Everything was delicious. They were a bit chinzy with the tomatoes in the burgers. Buns were delicious. French fries nice and crisp. Salads very flavourful! Burgers were on the expensive side as it did not come with anything but an olive and jalapeno pepper. Total cost with tip came to $50.
A very nice place to eat. Very cozy. Not too loud and felt very welcoming. Patio eating area too.
Did not like the fact that the washrooms were unisex. Could have made one for men and the other for women, and just made both handicap.
Also, when the cook dropped a utensil on the floor, he would run it under water . . . no scrubbing with soap or anything. Floors in kitchen not clean and saw the cook and helpers slip around. (Safety issue.)
Will go back for sure!!
Stopped in Whistler for a quick bite to eat. Decided on The Brewhouse. There was three of us. It was a warm night so we opted for the patio. It was great! The atmosphere was great. People watching and the music wasn't too loud, didn't feel crowded or felt we had to hurry.
After we were seated promptly, it took a while for our server to come take our drink orders. The place was busy in the patio but not busy at all inside. My husband ordered a beer but took over 15 minutes to get to him.
We shared the Green Salad ($7), Prime Rib Sliders ($13) and Mac & Cheese ($16). Salad was OK. Prime Rib Slider, which was an appetizer was VERY plain! No zing, no excitement. I thought there should have been some sort of garnish to it but nope, just three buns on a white plate. We should have ordered a hamburger instead! Mac and Cheese was definite overpriced!! The food wasn't delicious . . just ok. Total amount was $60 - way too expensive! Took a long time to get our bill too . . . and then to pay!! Our server was nice but soooo slow.
All in all, it was nice to be able to sit outside and absorb the atmosphere but would we go back? Maybe. We have fond memories of Brewhouse when it was first opened years ago so I guess that's why we chose this place.
The food is great here. I shared a mushroom/cheese burger with fries and strawberry milkshake with my daughter. Hubby had bacon burger with an ice-tea. Total was $11.95 for everything!!!
Master Chef is a Mom & Pop diner . . . Pop takes the order, he is very efficient and Mom cooks! Can't wait to go back for breakfast!!
Came her for dinner with my hubby last night. Been wanting to come but never did and always want to try their pizza too but didn't!!
We both had the 6 oz. NY steak special. It came with sauted mushrooms with butter and garlic, spaghetti and meat sauce and garlic bread and a salad to start. All for $13.95! The steak was delicious - asked for medium rare - and it just melted in your mouth! It was a small steak (6 oz) but very filling. For a person with a big appetite, probably won't do. The spaghetti and meat sauce is one of the best I've ever had in a restaurant. I don't usually have that but it was delicious! Garlic bread was fresh and nicely toasted! The salad looked very fresh and not all wilted! A very good deal for what we paid!!
The service was really good too. Our server sat us right away, got our water and told us the specials, even though it's posted on the wall! Very efficient and always with a smile on her face.
Like other reviews, the place is dated but it gave it a very homey feeling. It wasn't dirty or anything . . . just very comfy.
The other server in the restaurant said that she was surprised how quiet the restaurant was because it usually is packed at that time of night.
Would we go back . . . YES! Especially for the steak. Next time the pizza . . . or Wednesday for the souvlaki specials!
We went to this restaurant to celebrat my birthday and my best friend's birthday. It was indicated that it was our birthday but nothing was ever mentioned about it.
We didn't realized that Sunday night, it was $10 pasta night. No signs to indicate it. Nothing in the menu to mention it, just noticed that it was busy for a Sunday night. There was five of us, and we shared a Ceasar salad and a pizza for appetizer. Both were very, very tasty. Just enough. Bread and olive oil/Balsamic Vinegar was also brought. Enough oil and vinegar for maybe four slices of bread. I asked for more oil and vinegar and the bus boy brought another plate out and plopped ontop of the one that was already on the table!! I found that so strange. Took a long time for them to clear the table of our appetizer dishes too.
I had the Fettucine ai Funghi, my husband had Fusilli Salicce, my friend and daughter had the Lingune Frutti di Mare (which happened to be Black Cod that night), and my friend's husband had Spaghetti Bolognese. All the pasta's were delicious and we got alot for $10!!!
We asked for more bread when our dinner arrived, and he only gave us bread with no oil and vinegar. We asked for water, the bus boy filled only my glass and half of another glass and left the others empty. Thinking he was coming back, he didn't. Obviously he ran out of water in the pitcher and went to get more, but he filled the other end of the restaurant and never came back to our table. The waiter finally filled the glasses five minutes later.
The ambiance of the restaurant was fantastic. It was cozy and beautiful. The service really sucked. Our waiter made us feel unwelcomed. The bus boy was useless. And when we finally got out bill to pay, it took another 15 minutes before anyone showed up to take our payment. Thank goodness we didn't have to pay full price for our food. When we got up to leave, no one said thank you for coming or anything. Will I go back? Probably not. Will I suggest this restaurant?? NO!!! Too many good Italian restaurants in Vancouver to go back there.
Always walked or drove by this restaurant and always wanted to try it. Did it last night.
The salad, Verde, was unbelievable!! I can't wait to eat more!! Lots of garlic! Pasta was not what I expected. I wanted Clams in a white sauce and it came in a more tomato sauce. It was good but not what I really wanted!! My daughter had a pizza . . . she found it plain but other people who ordered different ones said it was excellent. (We had the left over pizza today, warmed it up and added more cheese and it was delicious!!) The large pasta was HUGE!!! Everyone seemed to enjoy their food too. Large pasta and small pizza was just under $30. Not bad for fresh ingredients!!!
The server was a bit strange. He dropped my daughters pizza on the table and had to wait forever for another one. By then, everyone else was finished so she didn't feel like eating. Did bring her a piece of bread to fill her till her pizza got there. Kept forgetting who got what or who asked for water. He asked if we wanted separate bills and we said that would be great but he forgot who ordered what and had to come back TWICE to see who ordered what, eventhough he wrote it all down on little slips of paper. We decided to give him one credit card at a time so as not too confuse him. And yes, we were tired hearing about his African girlfriend, who took all his tips and his carmel coloured son!!! It got fairly awkward after the fifth time!!!
Despite the server, and I don't know if he works every night, the food is delicious and I would recommend this place!!!
Totally different type of Vietnamese restaurant than am I am used to.
Made reservations for 8 and were seated at a small round table. So crowded and the restaurant was empty!!! It would have been better if they put two tables of 4 together . . . just saying!!!!
Dishes were fairly small portions and it all looked the same. Did not like the spring rolls or the fish dish. We ordered a large soup but didn't give us a ladle to scoop it out. Yes, I did ask for one but she looked a bit confused as why we would need a ladle! 6 dishes plus soup came to $85.
Also ordered a sub sandwich and not what we would expect! Eventhough it was only $3 . . . still not worth it.
Service was so-so. We sat there waiting for our bill while the waitress was talking on the phone. Tried flagging her down but she was too into her conversation. Almost gave them a 25% tip . . thank goodness I recounted the money!!!
Definitely do not recommend this restaurant. Try Cambie Vietnamese on Main Street!
We had reservations for 5:30PM on Sunday. Was hoping for a lovely view at that time, but nope, it was raining and cloudy. There was 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 kids.
I started with the Oysters which tasted amazing but very, very, very, tiny portion. My hubby had the Tomato Bisque as well as the 2 kids (they shared a dine out dinner). They really liked it.
For the main entrees, hubby and I had the New York steak. He thought it was great, I found it to be a tasteless piece of meat!! It was a fair size portion. Came with two tiny potatoes and a little scoop of vegetables. The kids had the gnochetti and they LOVED it. I thought the portion size of the pasta was rather small.
For dessert, the kids and I had the Chocolate Creme Brule and hubby had the Poached Pear Bread Pudding. The kids didn't like the brule. It was OK but it was not a brule. It tasted more like a pudding than a custard. Also, the top was soft not hardened sugar.
The bread was tasty.
The service was ok. She wasn't overly friendly and didn't care to make converstaion on anything. Didn't seem pleased that the kids were there too, eventhough they were behaving. Usually, if people are sharing meals, they would split them in the kitchen, but she just brought the extra bowl for the soup and an extra plate for the pasta, and it was akward dividing it up.
The atmosphere was nice. The place looked the same as before the fire.
Overall, because it was Dine Out, and we only had to pay $28 for the three course meal, it was worth it but I would be very disappointed if I ordered from the main menu. We will probably go back, like we do every year for my husbands birthday, but only with the Entertainment coupon.
I went here last night with 3 girlfriends . . wha a fabulous place!!
As a starter, complimentary Hummus and it was delicious!!! More than enough for the four of us!
I had the Chickpea Fritters and salad as an appetizer. It was so flavourful, not overpowering but soo delicious!! Two ladies had the Keftekes - DELICIOUS and the other friend had the soup - delicious and quite filling. Large portions too.
I had the Lamb Stifados and again, very flavourful . . . absolutely DELICIOUS!! It was too large so ended taking half of it home. My friends all had the Tuna. YUMMY!
There were only two choices for dessert. The other three ladies had the Creme Brulee and I had the baclava. Since I was so FULL, i only had one piece of the dessert, and gave the other two pieces away. I tried the brulee and it was absolutley DELICIOUS.
I cannot say enough about this restaurant. The ambience was wonderful (except for the TV on at the bar!), the service was top notch, and the food . . . incredible.
I highly recommend this restaurant. $28 for the three course meal, unbelievable value. I looked at the regular menu . . . lots of interesting dishes so I can't wait to go back and try some of them!!!
Had dinner here with my family and a friend and her family - 7 of us. I phoned to make reservations for 5PM and when we got there at 4:55PM, they did not have the table set up!
FOOD: Delicious! Everything tasted really good. I had the curry chicken. They said it wasn't spicey but I found it a tad spicey. Not really worth the cost - only 5 pieces of chicken. My daughter had the Wonton & Noodle soup. Big bowl and everything tasted delicious. It came piping hot! My husband and my friend and her husband had the #39 Dinner combo - lemongrass chicken, salad roll and spring roll. It all looked delicous and very tastey - wasn't too fond of the salad roll though. The other kids had Pho with beef and they loved it too. Appetizer was ordered - no chicken wings. Wasn't this a Vietnamese restaurant? No chicken wings?? Found that really odd. My friend also ordered the lettuce wrap as an appetizer. That came half way of the meal!! It wasn't what she was expecting - deep fried lettuce wrap! We also got the deep fried banana for dessert. Fair size but the bananas were not ripe enough so it wasn't sweet - even with the ice cream. For the three of us - the total bill came to $45 including tip. So it was a very good value.
SERVICE: We seemed to sit there for ages before our food came, ages before they even cleared our table. We always had to ask for more tea, more water, the bill . . . not asking how our meals were either. They seemed to be sweet girls but nothing up there!! Also, it wasn't busy for dinner. Six other tables only for the 2 1/2 hours that we were there.
VALUE: Very good value. I would go again!
AMBIANCE: It was clean and not too crowded. The bathrooms were ok.
