Service Sucked!!
Submitted Saturday, August 8, 2015 - 2:34am [Dine in]

I don't like this place. I've gone here may be 3 or 4 times. And each time, service was awful.
The food is just ok ... not good ... not great.
But the service ... I couldn't believe how awful it was.
Took forever for them to take our order.
Took even longer to get our bill. And when I went up to pay without the bill, she kept looking at my hand to see if I had the bill. No tea refill. No friendly smile. Awful!!!!

Never Again!
Submitted Monday, April 20, 2015 - 12:45pm [Dine in]

I can't believe how expensive this place is. We paid $12 for a PLATTER of vegetables which consisted of 2 small pieces of sweet potato, 2 half stalk of asparagus, 2 small chunks of squash, 2 small chunks of zucchini ... definitely not enough for one person but they call it a PLATTER!!
$50 for the sliced meat ... again, not much.
We had to flag someone down for the menu, flag someone down to order, flag someone down to order more meat, horrible service.
I don't understand why anyone would go there. Never ever again!!!

We've been going to HSG for their Anniversary month for the past few years and I don't think we have ever had a bad experience ... or we would not be back!
The food is almost always cooked to our request and if not, is corrected to our liking. Larger portions. The best is the Gorgonzola Fondue Dip ... ahhhhhhh ... eat it as an appetizer and then whatever is left over, use on the steak. Can I say delicious??? I've gone four times this month for their steak special $13 with garlic mashed potatoes, vegetables and delicious, fresh bread!!

Too bad the service SUCKS!!
Submitted Monday, March 17, 2014 - 2:16pm [Dine in]

The food here was really good .. not too pricey ... BUT the service was the killer. There were 7 of us ... I had to go up to order our clay pots because I knew it would take 20 minutes for it. Then I had to go up and order our noodles and soup. I requested that the noodles and soup come first but nope, they all came at once. Then we had to ask for two more cups of tea ... there was 7 of us.
One person ordered a coke and asked for a cup. Nope, had to go up and get it.
Not once did the lady come and ask how our food was. She was too busy watching the Chinese soap opera on the TV. And that, by the way, was blaring so that she could hear what they were saying!!!
When we were finished and ready to go, we had to go up and ask for the take out containers. Now you would think that was a clue that we were ready to leave. Nope, we still had to ask for the bill.
Loved the concept and the flavour of the clay pot cooking. Did not like the service. Don't know if I will go back.

$30 for 2 burgers???
Submitted Tuesday, March 4, 2014 - 2:18am [Dine in]

We went here for lunch today ... read the reviews on this a couple of years ago and have been dying to try this place!!! Wish I didn't go.
The food was good but overly priced!!! Two mushroom burgers with cheese shouldn't be $30!!! The french fries were good. The place was very clean ... the bathrooms were immaculate ... service good but because of the pricing ... definitely not going back.

I wen to this place over a year ago and I thought I wrote a review but can't find it. Either deleted or forgot to submit one.
We were here for dinner ... never been here ... always see a line up ... people saying how cheap it is!
That it is!! Cheap!! The calamari is not calamari. The Roast Lamb was very, very fatty. Rice and potato was cold.
Our server seemed nice at the beginning but as the meal progressed ... he got ruder and ruder each time he came back.
So NO ... not going back ... not worth my money ... will never wait in the long line up again ... no ... no ... NO!

What a view!!!
Submitted Friday, May 31, 2013 - 11:07pm [Dine in]

Never heard of this place but our friends took us here for dinner. What an amazing spot!!!! It was chilly tonight but WOW . . . loved the ocean, the beach, the fresh air . . . beautiful!!
Food was good . . . my husband and I both had the Salmon Burger with yam fries. Great yam fries but sure wasn't much of it!!! I don't expect more than regular fries, but I do expect a bit more than what we got!!! Both fries and burger were very tasty.
There was no service so couldn't really comment on it. BUT when we were all lined up to order our food . . it was obvious I was next and all the girl could say was "Next who's ready to order." Really?? Really?? Can she not say "May I take your order?" SOOOO annoying!!! And it took forever for anyone to clear the tables!!
Value was OK. I guess you pay for the view and it is an absolute beautiful view!!
And the ambiance was terrific . . . I'll repeat it . . . the ocean, the beach, the fresh air . . . beautiful!!! Enough said! Can't wait for my next visit!!

Delicious, delicious food!
Submitted Thursday, May 30, 2013 - 12:27am [Dine in]

My husband and I came here to celebrate our milestone anniversary. And it was a terrific choice! The food was unbelievable!!
My husband (MH) started with the French Onion Soup. This has got to be the BEST onion soup ever!!! Not too salty and just enough cheese and bread!! I had the Alsacienne Tart or caramelized onion tart! So flavourful!!
For the main course, MH had the Bouillabaise. He couldn't believe how much seafood was in the dish. He loved everything about it!! This dish came with a large slice of cheese bread to sop up the broth. I had the Ruby trout and I am so glad I did! It was so tender, mouth melting, so flavourful . . . so delicious!!!! I savoured every bite! My fish came with fingerling potatoes . . . perfectly roasted and tender young green beans!! I was very surprised what a large portion I got for the price I paid!!
With our mains, we ordered a side salad each. I wish the waiter told us to order one instead of two. One would have been plenty!!!
And of course, we had to have dessert. MH had the Milk Chocolate Mousse which was very light and very delicious. I had the Passion Fruit Tart . . . and again I was so impressed by the flavour!
We had tea with our dessert. I expected a higher quality of tea and not Twining . . . so was very, very disappointed with that. My tea had no flavour even though it was Earl Grey. And believe it or not, it almost ruined everything. If everything was such high quality, why can they not serve a better brand of tea, and even charge more.
The service was ok. Our waiter was not very attentive. I watched him with the other tables and he was the same to them as well. There was absolute no interaction. He was a bit more pleasant at the end of the meal, and I would assume it was because of the tipping. The hostess was not overly friendly, kept us waiting at the door for a good five minutes.
I am not into noisy ambiance . . . and close tables. I like my space, and I like my privacy when eating and talking. I would have preferred to have sat at the bar as the service there seemed to be excellent. And I would have been able to talk more with my husband and hear what he was saying.
Total cost was $115, including tip . . . with a Caesar so more if MH had wine. I would probably go back as the value is excellent but would sit at the bar instead of at a table.

My girlfriend and I had a "girl's weekend" and had dinner here the first night and what a great choice.
We sat outside in their small patio as it was quieter. I don't understand these loud music places!!!

We had a really sweet server . . . was a bit slow but was really nice!

We felt very comfortable where we were sitting.

The food! Oh my goodness . . . I had their soup Chicken Thai! I could have had ten bowls!! I've been looking for a soup like this for ages!! The best!! Then I had the Fish Taco's!! So tasty!! I guess the flavour that was in everything really made it!
My friend had the appetizer quesadilla and it was a huge portion and looked and tasted fantastic too.

Will definitely go back to this one. I'll also have to check out the other ones around town to see if they're comparable!!!

Good but I don't think good enough to bring me back
Submitted Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - 12:05pm [Dine in]

My husband and I had dinner here Saturday night.
It took them forever to take our order after giving us our water.
Beautiful restaurant though. It felt good in there and very comfortable. Tables were a bit too close. I really didn't care about what the girls did last night next to us.
We only ordered rolls and vegetable tempura. The oil wasn't fresh so there was an after taste when eating the tempura. That was worth the price if it was good!! Large plate of vegetables!!!
We ordered 4 rolls. I just thought the presentation would have been more eye pleasing. It just looked like it was thrown together and sauce used to cover it all up. We did have a special roll and most places have it on a separate plate and make it really stand out. Not this place.
Even though the food was good, don't think we will make a point of driving back there. We would if we were in the neighbourhood.

Nothing special . . .
Submitted Tuesday, September 11, 2012 - 12:00pm [Dine in]

Had dinner with four other ladies on a Sunday night. The place was very clean and roomy. Service was good. But I found for the amount of food that we ordered, it was tooooo expensive. Not really worth it all.
Pad Thai was the only plate that had lots but even then, for the price, it wasn't worth it.
Also ordered Green Curry Chicken - may be a 3/4 cup of vegetables and very few pieces of chicken.
There wasn't enough fish to go around and everyone didn't take large portions of it.
Green beans aren't expensive are they?? Just a scant may be 1/8 cup with even fewer pieces of chicken.

Food was good but I don't think I will be going back.

Not as good as I thought it would be . . .
Submitted Friday, March 2, 2012 - 5:34pm [Dine in]

After reading the reviews on this place for the past couple of years, I was finally able to go the other night. The food was good but not as good as I thought it would be!
I shared the chicken durum wrap with my daughter and my hubby had the beef durum wrap. The lavash bread used to make the wraps, are made fresh with each order so it does take a bit longer. The chicken wrap was delicious but nothing special about it. Because it is a Turkish I thought it would have a different type of taste. The beef I found was a bit dry. But this may be because it was about to close and it was the dribs and drabs. For $7.25 each, the value was not very good. Very pricey for what you got. I would go back to order the lavash bread to go. It is so neat to watch it bake in the oven and puff up!!
Service was really good. They were nice . . . not overly friendly.
The place was clean, and it did have, I assume Turkish trinkets hanging on the walls, on shelves but very plain looking place.
I don't think I will go back, as I did find the items pricey. I'm glad that I did try it though.

Definitely the BEST Falafels!
Submitted Friday, March 2, 2012 - 5:11pm [Dine in]

I had the falafel wrap for $3.99!! What a deal!!! She made them fresh! In the wrap, hummus was slathered on one side, then a bit of chopped iceberg lettuce, slices of tomato, big scoop of parsely mixture (I asked for extra!!!), then the falafels (3 in total), the yummy sauce and hot sauce and a dollop of tzatziki. After it was wrapped and it was warmed up in a grill. The best wrap I've had in a long, long time! And so filling! All for $3.99! I can't wait to go back!
The lady behind the counter was very, very nice but a tad slow! I can't imagine what it would be like if there was a crowd. Thank goodnesss I piped up when I saw her making falafels, that I was going to have the wrap too!! Or it would have been another 10 minute wait!!!
Value - $3.99 for the wrap!! The other food look great too and decently priced.
Ambiance - not much to say. This place shares space with a pizza joint. There were approximately 6-8 tables but not a place to take a date!
Yes, I definitely recommend this place!!! Did I mention that the wrap is $3.99???

Dine Out Vancouver 2012
Submitted Friday, February 3, 2012 - 12:03am [Dine in]

Again, we went here to try out the dinner for Dine Out Vancouver, and again, we left quite pleased!
The food was delicious, served hot . . . only complaint is the plate was large and the food was put to the side so there was a large area with nothing on it. At Westward Ho, it's the $18 menu.
I had the Grilled BC Albacore Tuna with Wild Smoked Salmon. At first it was shocking to see how small it was but it was soooo tasty and just enough!! Everyone else had the Corn and Crab chowder, and reported that it was delcious!! For the main entree, I had the Crispy Skin Arctic Char on a bed of Butternut Squash Puree. This to was very yummy! My husband and Dad really enjoyed their oven roasted Pork Chop. My daughter said the chicken was delicious!! For dessert, the Triple Chocolate Pate was absolutley divine!!! My parents were able to get the Cheesecake which was also very tasty. We've been going here for Dine Out for the past few years and I don't think we've every been disappointed.

I went here with three friends and glad we chose this restaurant. It was busy but not too noisy and we didn't feel rushed. Service was excellent. He wasn't overbearing and came enough times to check on us. And when we said something tasted really good, he would thank us!! He didn't flinch when we didn't order any alcohol beverages like some places may. Ambience was very nice. Not too crowded and not too noisy . . maybe because it was a week night instead of a weekend. The only annoying thing was the TV was on and showing "40 Year Old Virgin"!! WHY???
Appetizer: Three of us had the Bocconcini Saltimbocca salad and one the Cauliflower with cheese sauce. Salad was amazing . . . the balsamic vinegar was delicious! Didn't care for the cheese sauce with the cauliflower. It would have been better without the sauce.
Entree: Three had the Coca Cola Beef short Ribs and one had the Chicken Breast with Tomato Masala Cream. Both dishes were extremely flavourful and so delicious. The Masala cream sauce was very, very, very yummy!!! I wanted more with rice.
Dessert: Two had the Black and Blueberry Crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream and two had the Chocolate Mousse with Candied Pecans. Both were delicious but very, very, very small.
All in all, it was worth every penny. It was the $18 menu and I would highly recommend this place!! Would I go back? Yes I would to try their regular menu!!!

Submitted Thursday, December 15, 2011 - 1:23am [Dine in]

Went here with my daughter for a quick lunch, as a friend told me about this place and said it was great. Well . . it's NOT!!!

We ordered a small bowl of noodles and soup, one spring roll and an order of chicken wings. We got a large bowl of noodle and soup and two spring rolls. What the heck was her problem?? Wax in her ears?? And when I said I wanted a small, she just stared at me. I hate wasting food, and this was not good tasting at all. My daughter loves all types of noodles and soup. She didn't finish the one bowl I scooped for her. I had to take the rest home, eventhough i didn't really like it. It ended up sitting in the fridge untouched!!!
Everything was luke warm. The spring rolls were small and tastless, the chicken wings were tiny. Not worth what we paid for.
Service was non-existent . . . no smile, nothing.
Ambiance . . . typical pho place.
Will I go back?? Definitely NOT!!!

They are totally different from way back when . . .
Submitted Tuesday, November 1, 2011 - 9:27pm [Dine in]

I went here for dinner with my daughter . . . last day to use the Entertainment Coupon. My daughter checked out the website before we left for the restaurant and knew she wanted the Perogy Pizza!!!
We seated ourselves when we got there and a moment later, our server came by to ask if we wanted anything to drink. She was pleasant. But it did take a while for her to come back to see how things were and to get our bill.
My daughter went to the large window to watch them make the pizza. From when I went there many, many moons ago, they used to put on a real show. Not anymore. So that was very disappointing. (Reason for the mediocre rating for ambiance.) But the restaurant was very clean and felt very welcoming.
The pizza looked DElicious when it arrived at our table. And it was very, very tasty!! I just found the crust just a tad bit overcooked. But the topping was very good and the amount of cheese was very good and the taste was very good.
Because we had a coupon, the value was very good but I don't know if paying $27 would have been a good value pizza. (Rating of value is with using the coupon.)
Total we paid was $25 with tip. Would I go back?? Yes, if I had a coupon.

Submitted Wednesday, October 19, 2011 - 2:10pm [Dine in]

Went here for lunch with my friend today.
Food was good. I had the Spicy Combo which consisted of half a spicy tuna and salmon roll, spicy dynomite roll, spicy negitori and chopped scallop nigiri . . the fish tasted very fresh but this was not spicy enough. Also, found the seawood very tough to bite through, so ended up stuffing the whole roll into my mouth. Didn't like that at all!! My friend had the bento box - she liked it. It came with miso soup, california roll (which you can exchange for another roll and paying the difference), tempura (2 pieces), teriyaki chicken (or beef) over a huge mound of rice and the green salad. $22 for the two of us. To me, a bit pricey for lunch.
Service was good . . came around to refill cups with tea but at the end slowed right down.
I think the value was just ok. I think I can go elsewhere and get better sushi.
This place was clean wasn't too crowded. Would go back.

Why did we go here??
Submitted Tuesday, October 4, 2011 - 2:10am [Dine in]

There were six of us that had a mini-holiday in Whistler this past summer. Our first night we had dinner here. BIG mistake!!! FYI - we love the Spaghetti Factory in Gastown and Richmond!!
The guy who was serving us was so slow and clumsy. Took forever to get our salads. The bread tasted old and looked old.
The portions up here are definitely smaller than the ones down in Vancouver.
Was not happy with experience here at all.
Avoid this place. Will not be going back!

Best Noodle and Soup!!
Submitted Tuesday, October 4, 2011 - 2:04am [Dine in]

I went here with my daughter and her friend. It was a cold and wet day. We ordered the large bowl of noodles and soup ($5.50) and three spring rolls ($2 each). All I can say is, the broth was the best tasting soup I've ever had!! It had wonderful flavours. The large was more than enough for the three of us! The spring rolls was soooo yummy! These are the Vietnamese spring rolls that I LOVE!! Nice and crunchy and so flavourful!!
Ambiance was ok . . . nothing to fancy but it was clean.
Service was very pleasant and fast.
Definitely will recommend this place to others and can't wait to go back for more Noodles and Soup!!
