We usually go to our favorite local sushi place which we love but with an upcoming birthday dinner being organized, thought we research somewhere new to try where the service might be a bit faster considering we'd have more people. I read the reviews on Matoi and was quite excited to try it. When we arrived there were only two other tables seated. It took us well over 10 minutes just to see a waitress. We finally placed our order and it was another 30 minutes before we received our food which was definately not outstanding. I ordered the seafood hot pot that was supposed to be full of seafood and fresh vegtables. The vegtables consisted of cabbage and a few carrot slices. As for seafood, it was tofu, chicken thigh, two small front legs of a crab, one itty bitty piece of salmon, two clams with grit and a bit of white fish (no idea what is was). I usually stick to rolls and sashimi but wanted to try something different. was not impressed. My husband and daughter also ordered food and again, poor quality. The rolls all fell apart and the fish wasn't of great quality. It usually costs us $35 dollars for dinner so when we received the $55 dollar bill, that was pretty much the last straw.
I don't usually right reviews but it's upsetting when you go somewhere expecting something superb only to be disappointed. I hope we just picked a poor night but it was enough that we won't going back.
