Hot Pot Not so Hot
Submitted Sunday, February 22, 2009 - 10:19pm [Dine in]

Food Rating: Enjoy variety, but not as much variety as you’d hope to expect. Some items are not listed on the menu, so it may be ‘all you can eat’, but it won’t necessarily mean all the stuff you would ‘like to eat’. The reason some items are not listed is because it is too expensive to serve, no no, we can’t have them losing money now can we?

Service Rating: The server told us it was ‘final order’ (last call to order), only one hour through our two hour time limit. When I asked why this policy was so, the waitress raised her voice. She said it takes time to COOK, and prepare our food. Isn’t hot pot about “cooking” our own food, for ourselves?

Value Rating: You would normally get more than you paid, but since the ‘final order’ is called 1 hr through the 2hr mark, than no, the value isn’t as good as it could be.

Ambiance Rating: Cramped, and told false wait estimates. What more could a customer ask for? The estimates of ’30 more mins’, means in addition to one more hour. Maximum customer retention is the key here; string them along for the wait as long as possible.

Overall: Don’t ask for clarification on their ‘final order policy’, the waitress will be rude to you afterwards. The last couple of times I went, the ‘final order’ was during the last 20 mins. Total lack of consistency.

PROTIP: Don’t drink soft drinks, that means more air in your stomach, which means the less you can eat at the ‘all you can eat’ Don’t fall for the enticing deal of $1 all you can drink softdrink deal.

Food Rating: If you want to a bowl of rice, with just a piece of chicken, and lightly sauced with teriyaki, for an absolutely, unbelievable, spectacular price of $15, this is the rip off for you.

Service Rating: Be haunted, and stalked, because the patron might eat off the 'non-all you can eat' menu. Being honest is on the patron's part, but being hounded the whole evening by eyes pressuring you to get up, get out, don't eat more than you are supposed to, this is the place for you. What wonderful atmosphere, which brings me to my next topic.

Ambiance Rating: Trendy, but without the substance. You get to sit up on a second floor building, hurrah, I can get better 'ambiance' on my fourth floor apartment building.

Value Rating: $15 for a bowl of rice, a piece of chicken, and lightly sauced teriyaki. You be the judge. For an extra $5, you can get 'all you can eat', so where is the value in ordering off any 'non-all you can eat' menu?

Food Rating: The broth in my noodles were salty, and felt watered down to increase the volume of the soup, while avoiding to make more. Savings on operating expenses I suppose. Also, there was a hair in my soup, enough said.

Service Rating: Slow to clean the tables, and the tables are sticky. A dirty cloth isn't going to fix everything.

Value Rating: Raised their prices, which is unjustified since I do not want to pay extra, for the extra topping in my soup. (the hair)

Ambiance: Has a feeling of a home, a dirty one. Sticky tables, and sticky sauce bottles.

The food was plain and seemed like it was prepared in a hurry. The mushrooms were cardboard like in texture and the steak was juicy, but felt like it was thawed a hour ago.

The service was the worst part of the experience, when they are busy and you request for help they just choose to ignore you instead of saying "just one minute please" I was literally waving for help like i was sinking and a waitress chose to ignore me, i know she say me because we made eye contact and she was 2 metres away. They only asked the standard quality control question "is everything alright" with a dead face because it is required of them in the training manual not because they care. When I tried to leave, I sat there for fifteen minutes because the waitresses didn't even come for the check, I had to get up. Once I got up they quickly intercepted with, I'll get that for you. It than took another ten minutes.

The ambiance rating is horrible, the floor was dirty and seemed like a run down carpet from a buffet restaurant with all kinds of stains and black smudges. You just a place by it's hygiene, if you think the floor is bad, you can only imagine what the kitchen is like.

They deserve a overall rating of 2 and that's just being generous considering I got robbed fifty bucks. That's a lot hours of labour for some people and for those would be patrons, please don't come to this restaurant. You toil for three hours and they waste two hours of your time with crappy service, what a bargain!

poor service, big portions of food.

how many waiters does it take to split a $100 dollar bill? Five. How many times do i have to ask to get spices for my miso soup, plenty, how many times did i get hot sauce instead of miso soup sauce? Just one in my entire life. The food was in big portions, it tasted great but the interior design of the place made eating seem very uncomfortable.

The view is excellent, the food is just good. My steak was overcooked, it was supposed to be a rare, it turned out to be a medium rare, but the sauce provided with it made up for it. The servers were very polite and concerned with our dining experience. Great place to go, but go when the scenery in Vancouver is good.

for as little as five bucks you can walk out full. The breakfast is a must have, the waiters are responsive and the owner is very nice. The interior decorating is just right, it sets the mood of a casual hang out place, which is great for a poor college student or a budget conscious person, even a patron who dines upscale will appreciate this little gem off broadway.
