I keep trying this place and hoping for better. The food tastes fine, but comes in very small portions and nothing ever “wows” me. What I do like it, though, is that they don’t go overboard on the oil, which is my complaint about some other local Indian places.
In my experience the service is usually kind of strange – not bad exactly, but slow and often kind of awkward.
I’d say give this place a whirl if you are in the area and feel like Indian. However, there is nothing here to make a special trip for.
I’ve ordered take away from this place a few times. The food is fine, but nothing has amazed me. I usually am left wishing for more spice. The price point is fine, but nothing has been a fabulous deal. My main observation about this place is that the food is always greasier/oilier than I feel it needs to be. Good Indian food does not have to be greasy!
Until I find better a better Indian food option in Vancouver, I think I’ll stick with making my own.
I had heard so many amazing things about this place that I was dying to try it. Perhaps I'd heard too many amazing things. Maybe all the hype got my expectations out of whack.
The gelato here is good to very good. I do believe they use excellent ingredients and try to come up with gourmet flavours. I tried the 85% chocolate, the saffron rosewater, the chocolate brownie and the cherry. My friend had Thai coconut milk and hazelnut. The 85% chocolate scoop was by far the best of the bunch.
Like I said, the gelato is quality, but considering I got very basic service from the counter staff and the look of the shop is really nothing special, I was a tad disappointed. At $6.20 for two scoops I want to be blown away by the whole gelato experience. Maybe they could also include a trip to Italy for that price ;)
This place is casual and unpretentious. It has good food and you get big portions. I’ve had excellent service and everything costs a lot less than other local Greek places. They also have a good house red wine at a very reasonable price. I find the pita too thin and crisp for my liking, but that is a small thing.
While the restaurant is basic in décor, I’ve really enjoyed hanging out here on a warm evening having a leisurely meal and drinks when the doors are opened up to the street. It is nice to watch the world go by and not feel rushed. I’ve actually never been here during the rainy season. I imagine it isn’t quite as nice when they have to keep the doors shut, but that isn’t their fault.
I eat sushi a lot, and I thought I’d try this place as the location is convenient for me. I didn’t have huge expectations, but thought it would be decent.
The first time I was there it was really busy and chaotic and the service was poor/rude. I can understand if there is a lunch rush, but there are ways a restaurant should manage during peak times. For instance, staff should still be courteous. When I got my food, it was the worst tasting and poorest assembled sushi I’d ever had. I only ate about half, and that was only cause I was really hungry.
Thinking I may have just caught this place on a bad day- I tried it again recently. The food was still awful. There are so many hole in the wall sushi places in this city, there is no reason for anyone to go here.
I was really excited to try this place. Whenever I walked by I thought: I should check that place out. However, I should have really just kept walking by.
Although the decor is simple, I did't mind that. I also didn't mind too much that the server was less than friendly. What I did mind was the boring food. There were three of us eating together when I went and everything was just bland, dull and boring. Also, the drinks are overpriced. I won't go back. I can make similar yet far better food at home.
This location has a nice funky/casual feel. I like the space a lot.
My group had to wait for a table and a server brought us free smoothie samples to have while we stood by the door. That was the end of the excellent service, though. Once we were seated it took our server (not the one who met us at the door) a really long time to get to us, though. The place was busy, but the server just seemed spaced out or confused- maybe he was new??
When we got our food (we ordered many dishes to share and one person had an additional plate), all the dishes were good. Not amazing, but good/decent. However, again when we wanted dessert and it took a really long time to make the request and have it brought. In the end we also got the wrong bill. I had to go to the counter and explain a couple times that the bill we got wasn't ours. The bill we got was less than we owed, so I almost just paid the bill in my hand at that point.
One more small thing, that can turn into a large thing if you sit there a long time, the chairs are really, really uncomforatable.
This place is solid if not fabulous. The food has always been good, both the dine in and the take away. I have always had really good service here too. Even though the tables are very close together and you are quite cramped for space, this has not ruined a meal for me.
This is a place you go when you want an upscale tea or an afternoon tea event. I've been a couple times. The first time my group received better service, although perhaps that was because one of my friends knew one of the servers.
The tea choices here are just amazing. There are soooo many different kinds and they will let you smell different tins to see what blend you would like. However, be careful because some of the teas aren't included in the price of your afternoon tea order and they don't tell you that while you are making your choice.
As for the food, some of the tea sandwitches, scones and other dainties you get with your tea service are excellent. Others are downright boring. The presentation was very nice, though, and they did accommodate me when I said I was a vegetarian, which is always appreciated.
The prices are high, but they are in line with other high tea/afternoon tea services at nice hotels.
I think the next time I'll go back just for tea and maybe a scone. The tea is far better than the food offerings.
I've been here several times. I like to sit on the patio in nice weather. There are simply not enough patios in the city!
The food is overall good quality, although I think it is overpriced. My fav. dish is their saganaki. My friends have told me their seafood dishes are great. Their wine list has some good choices. However, I can buy better baklava many other places for way less dough (bad pun intended).
I think it is best to go here is you are really in the mood for greek and don't mind too much about the price. Also, everytime I go here almost everyone in the place that isn't a server is a senior. I don't mind that, but it really isn't a happening place to take a date if that is what you are looking for.
I discovered this place a couple years ago after I had given up on eating pizza out in Vancouver and only would make my own at home. I just couldn't find a place in town with a decent crust. Well, this place solved that problem. I also like the variety of toppings. (My fav. pizza is eggplant and spinach.) The staff are friendly, they deliver, but overall I get the food there because of the pizza crust.
PS. I tried a salad once. Poor. Stick to the pizza.
I go here often, as I work nearby. The counter staff are friendly and efficient and the food is fresh. They used to give you coffee for a buck if you brought your own cup. They have upped that price now, but it is still good value and they have a good dark roast. The muffins are good and the breakfast wraps are excellent.
The sushi is fair to good. They have some creative rolls. Everything is a decent price. However, what stands out here for me is the friendly service. The women here remember me and the friend I usually go with every time we stop by, even if we haven't been for quite some time. Once I had a roll I really didn't like and even though I'd already eaten about half of it they took it away and made me something new for free. There is no ambiance to speak of, but for a quick cheap bite or for take-out this is a decent choice.
This place used to have a great reputation. Some years ago, I thought it was a fun place to eat and people watch. In the the last couple years I've found the food less than great and overpriced and the service has been really poor. I have not had a friendly server in ages. I won't be going anymore.
This place is usually always a solid choice. The food is good quality and well prepared and they have enough veggie options to keep my happy. The service is friendly, although not always prompt. I appreciate the brunches in particular, as the prices are very fair. The coffee is excellent and the atmosphere is fun/funky without trying too hard.
I've been here many times in the last year. The place is great value for money. The food has always been good, even if the service ranges from nothing special to poor. I really like the bibimbap here as it comes in the proper hot stone pot and isn't too oily. I never have done the all you can eat thing, but others I have been with have gone for that and they were satisfied.
I have gone here multiple times, as it is close by my place. There is nothing here to set the place apart from other hole in the wall sushi places, but it is fine. I've never had a problem. I've tried many items and none of them are poor. Nothing is outstanding, but nothing is bad and the prices are right.
I've gone here often, as it is close to my place. The brunches are really good and are what keeps me coming back. I love the creative bennys. The side salads are always tastey with grated beets and carrots and excellent dressing. There are lots of vegetarian choices and they will make modifications for you. Dinner is not as good, in my opinion, and the pie is okay quality but is very overpriced.
I've been a veggie for 20 years, and when I moved to Vancouver people kept getting me to try this place. I've now been about ten times, and I don't think I will go back unless someone else I'm with really wants to go.
I find the place warm and friendly. The service is quirky, but has never been terrible. I don't really mind waiting for a table, which you often have to do at this place.
I think my issue is really with the menue. I just don't find anything very amazing, unusual, exciting. I like to get something when I eat out that I wouldn't make at home... and I don't really find that here. I also am not a fan of the miso gravy and it comes on a lot of things.
Having lived in Vancouver for years and bing a veggie, people often told me to check this place out. I finally did last weekend. It was... okay.
The decor is fine, but I am not a fan of the quotes on the wall. Overall the place felt like it was trying too hard to be hip/alternative.
The server didn't really speak to us, just looked at us once in a while and assumed we knew what to do. Look one, order drinks. Look two, order food. Look three, time to pay the bill. He wasn't rude, just awkward.
However, my burger was great and my friend's chilli was also yum. I had coffee and my friend had a pop: the drinks were fine. I didn't like that they slathered my greens with some thick mangoe dressing, but overall the food was very good and it came at a good price.
I would come here again for a casual quick bite if I were in the area. I wouldn't make a special trip to come, though.
