New management not always better
Submitted Tuesday, March 18, 2008 - 10:20pm [Dine in]
Bring back the old Chong Lim Hin. This new dim sum menu is too difficult to order from. The verbiage used to describe menu items is to flowery and tends to confuse. Same waitress as before management change, extremely capable but still overworked. I noticed a big jump in prices. Better places to patronize. Don't see myself returning.
Expect to pay 50% more
Submitted Tuesday, March 11, 2008 - 10:38pm [Dine in]
Food was good but expensive. Expect to pay 50% more then other dim sum restaurants. Tables are too close together. Service was okay and the place was clean. I can understand the image they are trying to achieve with their prices but when it comes down to charging for Chinese tea I gotta say "nuts to that". Will I be back? Only when someone else pays.
Food is okay but...

Food is alright and inexpensive. One of us had the beef noodle in soup (recommend) and the other had sliced beef noodle soup which had a funny taste (not recommended). Also shared a chive pancake thing which was different and quite good. Saw the noodles being hand pulled which was a treat. The restaurant is quite tired looking and the first thing that hit me was the unpleasant odour upon entering. Another negative is the staff sits at a communal table and speak in their native language which I believe to be Taiwanese. Waited a long time and had to ask for my bill. Only tried this place because of the high rating on Dinehere.ca Can't see myself returning.

Probably Delta's best Chinese restaurant. Large dishes, good service, good price. However the room is just too big. The way the tables are set up reminds me of my school cafeteria. We were a party of 4 orientals and we were given forks, never had that happen before. Napkins are a cost of doing business and giving patrons 1 of those tiny jobs just doesn't work, it reflects badly on the establishment. Checked out the restroom and give it a 4/5. Would I return? Yes!!
Glad I tried it out

After reading all the good reviews I just happened to be driving by and figured what the heck. Am I glad I did. Ordered a bunch of takeout and it was great. Sushi is sushi but sometimes the things that make some places better than others is the minor stuff. I like my rolls cut into 8 pieces and not to be over laden with rice. The rolls here are perfectly held together and bite size. Enough of those other places that do 6 pieces with rice falling all over the place. I shall return.
Must place to eat in New West
Submitted Thursday, February 7, 2008 - 12:51pm [Dine in]
Second time there on a Wednesday. Great deals on the Wed specials sheet. Party of 10 and everyone raved about the quality and quantity. Funny thing is we had the same waiter as last time, Trevor is the name and he sure added some fun and joviality to the evening. This was one of those times you add a little more to the tip because you want him to know you had a good time. I will be adding Old Bavaria Haus to my favourites list.
Pre-Chinese New Years Dinner
Submitted Tuesday, February 5, 2008 - 11:43pm [Dine in]
I was an invited guest to an early Chinese New Years Dinner. Party of 20 meaning to tables of 10 with a set dinner menu at $688.00 per table. Service was impeccable but of the 10 course dinner I was not impressed with about 4 of the dishes. Shark fin soup was tepid and very uninspiring with lots of bean sprout filler. Geoduck was tough as hell and the abalone tasted off. The steamed black cod was lovely but very small so everyone just got a taste. You got so little it was hard to count as a dish. The other dishes were excellent. Would I come again? Only if you paid.
Tough to eat

Nice location with lots of parking. Everything solid except the food. Worst steak I ever ate in a restaurant. Over cooked and over laden with gristle. Party of 8 but everyone else was happy as no one else ordered a steak. If I am ever dragged back here I will not have the steak. Otherwise a great place.
Enthusiastic server made the meal
Submitted Sunday, January 27, 2008 - 5:55pm [Dine in]
Party of 12 with 10 doing the Dine out Vancouver thing and 2 going the ala carte route. Everything was terrific. Everyone had soup or salad served within 2 minutes of each other meaning no one was left watching while others were eating. Same for the entree and dessert. Everytime a course was ready to serve our server enlisted 2 helpers. What a concept, all the diners eating at the same time. Food was great. Beverages were constantly topped off. Service was perfect, I never had to ask for refill nor was I neglected for long periods of time. Very enjoyable evening.
Better place down the street
Submitted Monday, January 21, 2008 - 12:51pm [Dine in]
Dropped in this Sunday evening because of all the good reviews in Dinehere. Everything okay but nothing special. The broth not up to scratch as compared to other pho joints. Too cloudy and bland. Prices seem to be lower than others and I liked where you could order sides such as bean sprouts, more meat, or noodles for $2.00. Observed the staff at work, efficient but not a smile amongst them. All had that dour and grumpy look. Passable but for me it's the Pho Hoa 4 blocks west.
Awesome roast pork
Submitted Sunday, January 13, 2008 - 6:37pm [Dine in]
I am in total agreement with previous critiques. The roast pork is awesome. I stopped for some take-out and am I glad I did. Wanted to try the soya chicken and duck but found them to be too expensive. The pork cost $2.00 a pound more than other places but boy was it good. Duck and chicken cost a lot more. How can you justify $18.00 for duck when other venues charge $10-$12? Maybe when my 649 comes in I can return and order to my hearts content.
Coupons bring me back
Submitted Sunday, January 13, 2008 - 1:43am [Dine in]
Good thing they run the coupon offers so often because thats the only reason I come back. Place is too dark and drab and everything looks unsanitary. Burgers are great. Both hands needed. Never a problem all 3 times I have been there but the potato wedges are another story. They are always overcooked to the rock hard stage. The waiter claims the cook says this is how the public likes them. There is no problem having them replaced but I dislike sending stuff back because my imagination sees the cook or chef doing things to my food. Food wise I give the burger a 3 and the wedges a 1. Average of 2.
No Reason Not To Come Back
Submitted Friday, January 11, 2008 - 3:04am [Dine in]
Party of 12 on a Saturday with a reserved table for a birthday celebration. Restaurant was packed to the rafters. Service was slow but the food was excellent. Menu was pre-arranged for a set price and for this type of meal which was more of a banquet style the price was extremely reasonable. Noise level was extremely high. I only saw 4 non-chinese diners so that in itself is a testimonial to the quality of the food. I would not hesitate to return. Not very often I feel like I got a good deal dining out but this place rocks.
Once is enough
Submitted Monday, January 7, 2008 - 6:39pm [Dine in]
Everyone seemed to rave about the dim sum so i thought I would try dinner. Arrived at 5:45 on a Sunday eve. 3 tables occupied all eating. Ordered 2 dishes and white rice. People started to come in for dinner, no big parties, mostly twosomes and threesome. Imagine this, people that came after me were receiving their food. One table next to me with 3 people got 5 courses delivered while I waited. I called a waiter over and complained. He explained that steamed chicken takes longer. So after 30 min. my 1st dish arrives with the rice so we started to eat. After 15 min no more 1st dish and no more rice. 5 min later chicken dish arrives. This kind of service sucks. Waiter explained that the new steamer has not yet arrived and they are using the old inefficient steamer. I told him that was bs because I know it doesn't take 45 min to steam chicken. I left NO TIP and will not be back.

Consistency is a good thing. You always know the food will be good and come out fast. Would love to see Restaurant Makeover do a show here. Waitress from Mr. Ho's is now employed here, rather chatty but good at her job. Whenever we feel like eating out with no place in mind the ON On is our default restaurant. Cheap prices and good food and fast service. Miles above Mr Ho's in every respect except for decor.
Best in Surrey - Got to be joking
Submitted Monday, December 31, 2007 - 11:00pm [Dine in]
Had a coupon for $9.00 so decided to give it a try. If it was the only sushi restaurant in Surrey I could understand that it would be the best. But if there are others Japanese restaurants and this is the best then Surrey is in trouble. Bento boxes are nothing to rave about but you get what you pay for. The service is another matter. Absolutely the worst service I ever had in a restaurant. Could be they cater to the takeout orders and ignore and restaurant patrons because we are a captive audience. Once you order its hard to walk out no matter how bad the service. I will not return.
Good Pho in Burnaby
Submitted Monday, December 31, 2007 - 10:44pm [Dine in]
This is my numero uno place for Pho in Burnaby. Bright young attentive staff. Always fast service and food is always piping hot. Lots of parking. Good prices. Never had a bad meal but remember this is not a high class restaurant. If you only have a half hour for lunch then this is the place.
Good and Fast
Submitted Monday, December 31, 2007 - 10:26pm [Dine in]
Anytime I need a sushi fix this is one of my standbys. Always fresh, fast, and reasonably priced. Cheap lunch and dinner combos. Located in the Old Orchard shopping mall so there is always parking. That's all I had to say but I had too few words so I need to lengthen my critique so that DineHere would accept my review.

Stopped for lunch while shopping in the area. Had the lunch specials. Beef brisket with soup and noodles and the stir fried rice noodle with beef. Decent for the price $4.95 each. Looked at the dinner menu but was not impressed. More Canadian than Chinese. Checked out the restroom and found it quite acceptable considering the overall tiredness of the building. In a pinch its okay but not suitable for a special meal.
Sweet and Sour Mostly Sour
Submitted Saturday, December 22, 2007 - 4:06pm [Dine in]
My first time at this location. Been to the other 2 and knew what to expect. Just wanted a fast economy meal party of 4. Total order of 5 dishes. Sweet and sour pork was high no one had more than 1 piece. After we finished eating the waitress asked if we wanted the sweet and sour packed to go. I explained it was high and not edible. She then explained the dish was good but the cook had changed vinegar brands. Kind of like it was my fault it was no good and how it was a very popular menu item. I never asked for credit which would have been a nice jesture. I have never been back and never will. I prefer to go to the ON ON at the old location.
