Ain't the same without rice vinegar
Submitted Thursday, October 23, 2008 - 9:57pm [Dine in]
Sushi rolls are tasteless and sticky without rice vinegar. Is this becoming a fad in sushi restaurants? Is it a matter of costs. Did they just forget to add it? Thank goodness we had other food items to fall back on. Fantastic chicken katsu, large portion crispy on the outside moist and tender on the inside, perfect. Beef teriyaki was a little tough but the accompanying noodles were great. Tempura was par. Chicken teriyaki was fine. Miso soup was sub-par, cloudy and tasteless. Waitress was kind of dour but service was good and efficient.

I have been here many times for lunch. Everything is consistent. Food taste good and comes fast. It will not appeal to a gourmet foodie but it will satisfy the ordinary people. Restricted parking in the front but a small lot in the back and a free parking lot on either end of the lane. A big bonus is the takeout section next door featuring cooked food and frozen dim sum. A common kitchen serves the restaurant and the takeout.
All around good

Rainy Friday afternoon perfect scenerio for a bowl of noodles. Read excellent reviews and made a beeline from Burnaby. Good move, soup noodles were very large portions and cheap. Never been to Viet Nam or Indo-China but I expect this is the exact kind of restaurant I would find there. Very clean and comfortable. Great service and another big plus was everyone there spoke English. Everytime you said thank you you got back a you're welcome. kind of refreshingly different from those slap in on the table places. Small parking lot in the back.
What's with all ther celery
Submitted Thursday, October 16, 2008 - 10:50am [Dine in]
Located in a little strip mall along with 4 or 5 other restaurants. I have frequented this place a few times over the years. Cantonese style cooking. Always consistant. Food is good, service acceptable. free soup always hot and tasty. Mango pudding for dessert. One of my dishes was the snow peas with chicken and prawns. There were 6 prawns and maybe 8 slices of chicken and about 10 snow peas. The rest of the dish was cut up celery. Fully half of the dish was celery. If I want celery I will order celery. I feel totally mislead and was suckered into ordering celery which I hate.
Huge California rolls
Submitted Sunday, October 12, 2008 - 9:25pm [Dine in]
Stopped in to get a couple of California rolls to go. Delicious and tasty a good buy at $3.00 a roll. Pieces were very large and needed at least 2 bites to finish off a piece. Rolls were cut into 6 pieces. I much prefer the 8 piece roll. Not much in the way of ambiance. There were dirty tables when I got there and they were still dirty when I left. Guess they only clean off the tables as needed.
Always a good experience

I have been to this location 6 times over the years and have always gone away satisfied. Food is always good no matter what you order and service is always what is expected. Easy to see the staff has some training before serving the public. Lots of parking available on and off premises. Terrific ambiance comfortable booth seating. Normal conversation is possible not at all like Earl's on Lougheed where you get a headache from the noise.

Wednesday dinner for 9 people. No food complaints from anyone. Service was another matter. Waitress was apologizing all night for her mistakes. Bread arrives well after the entrees were served. By the way the bread was great. Coffee refill came 10 minutes after requesting. Place was packed. Terrific ambiance. Spacious but cosy. Would like to return and work my way down the menu.

Wait staff in total chaos. No one seems to have a designated area so they just float all over the place. Fine if you get service but if you get stuck in a corner you are completely ignored. Ordered 2 dishes which came 10 minutes apart so my spouse was nearly finished eating when my dish finally arrived. And it was barely warm because of the length of time it languished on the counter which didn't even have a heat lamp. After asking twice the complementry barely warm soup arrives after the main dish. Food was cheap enough but not worth the aggravation. Premises need a good cleaning. Floor is very greasy. Restroom is an embarassment just hold on till you get home. No chance in hell of a return visit.

The outside of the restaurant seems kind of nondescipt but inside is very upscale with an open kitchen. Question, is it still a reataurant when all they do is slice meat and cut vegetables and the customers do all the cooking? Fantastic variety of veggies some I tried for the first time ever. After finishing I certainly felt like I had a healthy meal. Lots of wait staff and everyone was attentive. Wasn't happy about paying $1.50 for tea but the charge was explained to me beforehand so I guess I didn't have to order it. Restroom was as upscale as the restaurant. Overall I loved the experience.
Top notch ribs
Submitted Friday, August 22, 2008 - 10:45am [Dine in]
Best ribs I ever had in a restaurant. Tender, meaty and juicy with a perfect sauce. Not overpowering like in some where you need to scape it off before eating. As to the sides I found the mac and cheese rather bland but the black-eyed peas on rice was good. Side portions are rather small. The cornbread which came with the meal was tiny. At $2.50 a side it seemed overpriced. At these prices in a low rent venue Boonie will soon be a very rich man.

11:00 pm Saturday and the place was bustling. Ordered the sliced fish congee and the sui gow in noodle soup. Both were piping hot and delicious. Lots of fish and gigantic sui gows. However why is it when only 2 items are ordered there is an time lag between delivery of said items? This is becoming a pet peeve of mine as it doesn't make sense and makes you look disorganized. Place was clean and had lots of wait staff on hand. Return visit a certainty.
Standard Chinatown Fare

Had 2 of the $5.95 specials and the steamed bass with black bean sauce. Nothing outstanding. The squid with seasonal vegetables was chewy as the membrane was not removed making it difficult to eat. The free rice which came with the specials was a little hard indicating it sat for longer then normal. Servers were pleasant and helpful. Restaurant has a real tired look to it. All in all not a visit I will be repeating.
No jackpot at this place
Submitted Thursday, August 7, 2008 - 10:49pm [Dine in]
Going from the casino parking lot to the restaurant was the highlight of lunch. Upon being seated the whole afternoon just got worse. What a nice restaurant to have such crappy service. 3 wait staff in a 25% full restaurant and I had to wave the server over to take our order. Two of us each had a bowl on noodles. Keep in mind the place was 75% empty. What the hell the noodles arrive 7 minutes apart. You know the story, arrive together and one has to watch while the other eats. Then you have to go out of your way to get attention and ask for the check. Service absolutely sucks, will not be back even if I win the big jackpot next door.
Tuesday is wing night
Submitted Wednesday, July 16, 2008 - 1:31am [Dine in]
Half price wings on Tuesdays. Regular $9.99. Good wings with all kinds of flavours to choose from and the wings are good sized unlike a lot of establishments. Had the house special pizza in addition to the wings and it was a winner. Others in the party had the chow mein and Shanghai noodle bowl. Nothing but compliments. A little pricey but not outrageous. Service was a little lacking. Only 4 settings for 6 people and we had to ask for 2 more. Don't like asking for common sense things. 6 people 6 settings. Coffee was lukewarm but plentiful. Restroom was clean. No air conditioning but the overhead doors to the patio were up.
Should be Joey's Oily Fish & Chips
Submitted Saturday, July 12, 2008 - 10:13pm [Dine in]
Ordered the Joey's special 3 piece fish and chips for $9.99. Chips were okay but nothing special. The fish was another matter. The 3 pieces were huge but lacking. The fish was of low quality in taste. Not a premium type of fish. I didn't order the halibut or salmon but I expected at least some type of cod. Every piece had the gray stuff often seen on fish. Batter was oily and too hard. Service was okay for an almost empty restaurant on a Saturday evening. Restroom was neat and clean.
Okay lunch nothing special

Dim sum prices $2.75 or $3.25. There are 4 dessert items at $2.50. Do not go expecting to find $2.00 dim sum. Free parking at the back in a shared lot with Famous Foods. Very tired looking restaurant. Restroom clean but old looking. Food was good. Biggest har gow and sui mai I have ever seen. 7 dishes with tip came to $23.00. Service was par, no birdies, no bogies. A return visit is not in the future.

Very small restaurant with seating for 30 people. Extremely cramped. 1 person as cashier, waitress, busperson. Probably too small to have another staff person on duty. So when its busy as it was when I went for lunch today service suffers. As nice and personable as the waitress was the service was unbearable. Food was okay but the portions were really small. 3 dishes for 2 people and I am still hungry. Won't be back.
First impression. What a gem of a place

4 of us had the $19.95 ayce plus the $3 hot pot add on. Food was excellent. Service was awesome. Missed a couple of dishes but I kind of expect it at an ayce restaurant. Seems to happen everywhere. View from the window seat was great watching all the Richmond drivers in their Mercedes. Money can't buy love but apparently you can still get a driver's license. Premise was clean and spacious. Checked out the washroom and it was one of the grandest I have ever seen in a restaurant. I will be back but only on special occasions.
Double bogey meal.

4 of us went there Sat afternoon at 3:00 pm for a sandwich and coffee. I had the chicken burger with fries. What a sorry excuse for a burger. The grilled breast of chicken barely covered half of the bun. Talk about dry some mayo or mustard would have been nice. Wait staff was terrific coffee was constantly topped off. Very nice dining room with a view of the putting green. Large TVs throughout. Hey chef start getting bigger chickens or smaller buns.
One time here is more then enough

Very small place with seating for about 12 people and 4 stools at the sushi bar. Order at the counter and pay first. If you have people ahead of you the wait can be very long. No hot food here other than tea and miso soup. Tea is self serve. Sushi costs a little more then other places and is really awful. The sushi rice is completely tasteless and falls apart easily. Chopsticks are impossible to eat with so you must resort to fingers. After every bite you have to lick the rice off your fingers. Establishment is clean and the uni-restroom was clean. The food here really turned me off.
