MmMmm Always Delicious
Submitted Thursday, May 1, 2008 - 1:53pm [Dine in]

I don't come here often but every time I visit, I'm always surprised by the quality of their pastas. It's consistent, fresh, tasty and never boring. Any kind of pasta dishes is recommended. If you're not too hungry, you can half order it. It's still just as yummy. Haven't found a place that taste just as good or better.
Their service is good, not outstanding but it doesn't matter because their pasta makes up for it.
Another thing I like about this place is that they don't mind if you're in jeans or hoodies. They will treat you just like everybody else.

Had such high expections for this place
Submitted Saturday, April 19, 2008 - 11:20am [Dine in]

We went here 3-4 years ago for our anniversary. I thought this would be a neat place to go since we're going to dine in a " Victorian house". Since it's been in business for such a long time, I expected decent decor, service and food. But I was wrong. The place didn't look very appetizing and it was kind of old for comfort. It didn't have this fine dining feel. The chairs were uncomfortable and the tables looked cheap. For the price we're paying, I was a little disappointed. Well, I haven't been here for awhile so it might be different now.
The service was ok not astounding. What upset me the most was our server didn't tell us about today's special and he told the people next to us! I felt very discriminated! We're not rich but we are middle class people. We were dressed up and very polite. I don't think they should judge and decide which table you should or shouldn't announce the specials. We were eating our meal when I heard the server talking about it and I almost got mad cuz I actually wanted to try their special! Anyways, I don't recall what I ordered but it was not worth to mention. All I remember is their poor service and I'm never going back again.

We were hungry
Submitted Monday, April 14, 2008 - 11:30am [Dine in]

We were in Coquitlam and was hungry so we decided to check out this cafe. We thought it's going to be decent since most of the Chinese cafe are pretty good (I was wrong!) but this one was a disappointment. We'll never go again. The food, I'll give it 6.5/10. They do have cheap combo but still, I prefer better quality food.
We tried Kirin restaurant upstairs and it's pretty good.

Busy place for a new restaurant
Submitted Monday, April 14, 2008 - 10:49am [Dine in]

Decided to check this place out after reading all the wonderful reviews. I've never tried South Indian food before and I was quite excited and abit nervous.
Came here on a Fri at 6ish and the place was almost full! There were lots of ppl working but it was still hard to get their attention once we're at our table.
I heard that their doza is good so I decided to give it a try. Doza is similar to crepe (abit crispy) w/ fillings inside. The fillings could be vegetables and/or meat. It was very delicious!
My partner ordered the dinner special which was very appetizing and flavorful! It's abit on the spicy side but I totally recommend this dish for first-timers. The dish came w/ assorted spicy dips, 2 puffed breads and something similar to Papadam but w/ no spices. Very good!
I also ordered the Eggplant appy and that was quite addictive. The server suggested us to get Kulcha (it's similar to Naan but w/ more flavors) and that did not suit my taste.
Overall, it was a nice experience. Very authentic. The place doesn't look too fancy but I will definitely come back.

Can't believe I didn't know about this place!
Submitted Monday, April 14, 2008 - 2:50am [Dine in]

Normally you can't expect much service at a Chinese restaurant but this one is different. These guys are quick and attentive. My dad spilled some soup on himself and the cashier spotted it and quickly grabbed a towel and ran for rescue. And then immediately the server went in the back and grabbed some tissues for my dad. Wow, it's amazing.
Anyways, I can't believe I didn't try this place earlier! This place is awesome. I go here almost every week w/ my family. They have the bestest wonton noodle soup. The wonton is fresh and huge! The noodles are perfect and the soup base is flavorful. I also like their plain congee w/ "fried donut".
We never got a chance to order dinner dishes but I've seen ppl order them and they are huge and yummy looking. If we have more ppl next time, I would like to try it.
This place also serves late night snacks.

Lots of Parking
Submitted Monday, April 14, 2008 - 2:36am [Dine in]

I like it how there's parking all over the place. The first time I went here was 2 summers ago. It wasn't a very good experience b/c I guess they just opened up and the service was reallyyyyyyy slow. My friend and I ordered to go and it took forever. Probably 15-20 mins, no joke. And the place was not full. There were barely any seating area, probably 3-4 tables. You can't expect this place to be packed if they don't have seats for people. I ordered the milk tea and my friends ordered something fruity. Overall, the taste was ok. I didn't really wanna go again.
But this year, I decided to give it another chance since it received top ratings on this site. I brought another friend this time and he thought we were at the wrong place because we saw 2 Caucasians working there. No offense, we just never seen a BBT place operated by "non-asians". So we went in, this time they had more tables and chairs. I find it a little weird that we had to order and get our drinks at the counter. Can't they just walk up to our tables and take our order like what other tea houses do? Anyways, other than that, the drinks were good. We were not too comfortable w/ the seats. The place had 2 types of chairs and they alternate them in each table. It just didn't make sense to me. Overall, it was a nice experience this time. They just need to work on the seatings, again. Oh yeah, they serve food and snacks now. I would like to try it next time.

Disappointed
Submitted Monday, April 14, 2008 - 2:04am [Dine in]

Even though I went here 3-4 yrs ago, I guess nothing has changed from reading the reviews. Before my arrival, I have this vision of a beautiful lounge by the water. I always hear about this place on the radio so I gave it a try. When I went in, it looked like a regular restaurant. It was quiet. The bouncer or whoever asked for my ID when it's not even late yet. I don't think we should get our ID's checked unless we order alchoholic drinks. I thought it was unusual. You don't go into Earl's and get ID'd. Anyways, I don't remember much about this place other than pure disappointment. We ordered this soup and an appetizer and it sucked. Yup, I said it, sucked. Because of that, we will never go again. The service was very fake too. Like they don't want us to be there but they are forced to be nice.
I will visit again if they change owner and staffs.

Interesting decor
Submitted Saturday, April 5, 2008 - 4:48pm [Dine in]

Someone told me about this place so I decided to check it out. You won't be able to tell that this place serves Jap food cuz of the decor (mostly from the cartoon character Astroboy) and it's very dark inside (with candles). Went here at 9pm and the place was packed. There is a huge selection on the menu and it's hard to decide what to order. We had miso soup and some rolls. The server spilled some miso soup on the table and floor but didn't make me another bowl. I was a lil disappointed by that cuz I love miso soup and I don't like to have any less of it. The rolls were average, not a wow factor. I find the place too dark and loud for comfort.
Overall, it wasn't the greatest but it was a nice one time experience. I wouldn't go again though.

Submitted Friday, April 4, 2008 - 1:56pm [Dine in]

We were hungry one day and wanted to try some Coquitlam food. We saw this place in the corner and decided to drop in. It was on an odd time like 3 or 4pm, the place was almost full and chefs were all busy.
We had the basic things like miso soup, salmon sashimi and some rolls. The miso soup was good, the salmon sashimi was GINORMOUS! One piece is like 3 pieces combined! I even had trouble cutting them with my chopsticks. And the rolls were huge!
I think this is a good place to go if you're hungry and want something affordable.
The service was not the best but whatever, kind of expected that.

Nice Treats
Submitted Wednesday, April 2, 2008 - 12:13pm [Dine in]

Went here on a rainy day for a bday celebration. The place is a little bit old with odd antiques and paintings. I say "odd" maybe because I don't know how to appreciate them. Most of the items were served in Versace China. I didn't know that until the server (I think the owner) mentioned about it.
We only ordered 3 items:
Seared Queen Charlotte Salmon which was smoked at our table. My partner loved the fish. The smoke lingered on the ceiling which was kind of interesting and made me a little worried that the smoke alarm might go off. As entres, we had pork chop and tenderloin. It was good but the not the greatest.
The fun thing about this place is that served us complimentary tasters/appy and in between meals, they serve us other goodies. And in the end of the meal, they gave us complimentary assorted desserts. I thought that was awesome. I like it how I never stopped eating!
I will definitely recommend this place for special occasions.

One more thing, their tea tasted like DIRTY FOOT WATER. Not like I know how it tasted like but it was NASTY!! I wasn't sure if it was green tea or some dirty floor cleaners leftover or what. I'm starting to not make any sense. My stomach is still very upset about this.

Decent dinner buffet
Submitted Thursday, March 27, 2008 - 10:50am [Dine in]

Been going here almost once a month. We normally go for dinner buffet at $13.95 which we think it's a decent deal since regular menu items are $15.95 or more. We're so used to coming here so we kind of know how their service are: it's not the greatest but we don't really need much service since buffet are self served. For us, it's a laid back place where you can eat for as long as you want. Sometimes the servers are non-existent but it doesn't really bother us. As for paying the bill, we always pay at the counter. Maybe that's how they want it.
I had regular menu items before and they are very good. Their naan bread is enormous! It's like 1.5 ft long! Yummy

Took a girlfriend here cuz she was craving for noodles but boy was I disappointed. The decor is nice and I expected some yummy treats but it turned out blah. I don't remember what she ordered but she said it was OK. I ordered the veggie noodle soup and it was not tasty and I just wanted to leave and go have pizza across the street or something. I could barely finish the bowl even tho I am a major noodle lover. I'm never going again.

Submitted Wednesday, March 26, 2008 - 12:02am [Dine in]

Went there few yrs ago and started going again this yr. Nothing has really changed. I like ordering their miso or sea salt base soup but now I'm into CHEESE RAMEN! I always thought it was a weird thing to eat cuz cheese in noodle soup? Wha...? But I remember that first bite very well, it was heavenly! They were right, like the menu says, "the ladies loooove it!" Haha, so true!
Like the previous reviewer said, does the soup contain MSG? I'm always very thirsty after eating this delicious bowl of ramen. And it's kinda annoying b/c after that big bowl of ramen, I don't have any stomach space for drinks. And I don't like the fact that I'm eating something w/ MSG unless it's instant noodles!

Submitted Tuesday, March 25, 2008 - 11:51pm [Dine in]

It's a nice restaurant that can not be accessed inside the mall. It's located at the back entrance of the mall (if that makes any sense).

I've been here at least 4 times and it's always yummy and consistent. When I first saw that bowl of ramen, I was a little unsure. The soup base was white! But one sip totally took me to another place. It's surprisingly tasty! As for the noodles, they look like spaghetti. But ofcourse they are just in a different form of ramen from what we're used to eating. I've tried it w/ bbq pork, fried pork chop and veggies. They are equally good.
I will definitely recommend anybody to go try it at least once. On a cold day esp in Vancouver, you can't say no to a nice hot bowl of ramen noodles!

I heard that Shabusen is pretty popular and I don't know why.
Came here w/ my family and a visitor and we ordered a bunch of regular menu Jap food. Everything was OK, nothing wow. I just couldn't understand why it's so busy there! I could easily go to any regular Jap restaurant for that quality and taste.
Maybe they have good Korean bbq?

Finally get to try this place because I drive by it all the time. I didn't know until I stepped in and found out that their place is very cafetaria like. They have booths and tables and everything is kinda old. They have a nice dessert isle in the front and a veggie buffet ($9.95) at the back. I ordered the butter chicken (costed more than avg) w/ naan and rice, nothing special though.

I found this place by luck. I was reading another review for an afternoon tea cafe and someone mentioned this place so I googled it. Their website was sooo tempting that I had to go! They actually have a pastry (or dessert) chef to make their goodies! Yumm. I guess this shows how little knowledge I have about afternoon teas. I think it's because the other places I've been to use pre-made or frozen food. bleh
I'm not much of a tea fan but I love sandwiches, pastry and desserts. I had the mini combo which inc/ a pot of tea, 2 sandwiches, 2-3 pastries and 1 dessert of my choice. They were all good and fresh and not too rich or too sugary. I will definitely visit again. They also have regular menu items such as soup, salad, sandwiches, (pasta?), etc.
Yum yum

Submitted Thursday, March 20, 2008 - 11:52pm [Dine in]

I go here sometimes cuz my partner says so or else I'll try somewhere else. Everytime we go there, we have to line-up. The food is OK. I've tried their hotpots and noodle soup. Their drinks is average, not the greatest, and cost more than other bbt shops. I think the drinks are a total rip off unless u're really craving for them. Another thing is that when u order "fresh" fruits, it's powder! I saw it with my own eyes! How upsetting and we paid like $5 for that crap.
The service is nothing special but what do u expect at a bbt place. Plus they're so busy anyways.
Their peppery chicken is pretty good and it's in big portions. That's the only compliment I can think of.

This is pretty much the ONLY place I'll go to if I'm craving for some fusion rushi rolls. They have tons to choose from and they are all equally delicious! And there's lots of pictures to see. Been going there for 2+yrs and their food has been consistent but not their service. Their service is slack and I always hear them chatting in Chinese all the time. We never get our tea refilled until we asked and we didn't get any plates to eat the sushi rolls with. I just think they should use their time to serve us better esp we're paying a more than average price for their sushi. I definitely recommend this place for the yummy food but don't expect to be treated like a valued customer.
