Dona Cata Mexican Foods5076 Victoria Drive, Vancouver
I'm not Mexican, but I could be after this meal...

Dona Cata offers a rare authentic Mexican experience in a Tex-Mex-devoid Vancouver. At first glance, the bright pink exterior paint and large Christian crosses hanging from the multi-coloured walls did make me wonder whether I was in a cult or a Mexican restaurant. After, however, my meal, I'd be willing to drink the Dona Cata Kool-Aid anyday! Dona Cata provided the finest Mexican dining experience in all of Metro-Vancouver.

The food was outstanding. I ordered the tacos and they were authentic, delicious and large-portioned. The tacos were better than the other authentic Mexican restaurants in Vancouver (Don Guacamole and La Taqueria). My only complaint was that the tacos were under-sauced, but this was due to the fact that Dona Cata charged for additional sauces, which I thought I could do without. The horchata was amazing as well. It was not overbearingly sweet (like Don Guacamole's horchata).

The tacos cost $2 per. This is better value than both Don Guacamole and La Taqueria where tacos are $2.50. Everything on the menu was reasonably priced.

The service was fine. The servers were not overly-attentive, but they brought the food and drinks quickly. It was nothing to rave about, but also nothing to complain.

Overall, Dona Cata is a reflection of Mexico but only in the finest sense.
