Very good Bar-B-Q Duck and Roasted pork
Submitted Monday, February 23, 2009 - 8:50pm [Dine in]

I went to this restaurant for lunch today as I read several positive reviews. I ordered the roasted pork and bar-b-q duck with rice. the meal was very delicious but I was a bit disappointed with the menu selection. If you enjoy chinese bar-b-q dishes and don't really care about the decor, this is a place for you.

Expensive for what you get
Submitted Monday, February 9, 2009 - 8:43pm [Dine in]

Went here for dinner with a group of friends. We had the 10 course dinner which had a preset menu, similar to a wedding menu. Most of the dishes were very good like the crab, roasted chicken, mushroom & gai lan, sweet & sour pork with deep fried tofu, fried rice, deep fried cod w/ sweet soy sauce etc. The service was great, they constantly was on top of topping off our pop/tea. My gripe was with some of the dishes. One of our tables they completely forgot to serve the roasted chicken and the fried rice was without shrimps or bar-b-q- pork, they really cheaped out on this dish. For the price we paid I felt that the value was not there. I have eaten at other restaurants that not only had better quality of food, lager dishes but the price was much more reasonable than here. I would rather go somewhere else for the same dishes. Needless to say, I would not be returning anytime soon.

GREAT cheap eats
Submitted Wednesday, February 4, 2009 - 1:22pm [Dine in]

My wife and I went to this restaurant before a hockey game. My wife ordered the steam rice with sweet & sour pork and honey garlic pork. The sweet and sour had too much batter and the meat was a bit fatty, otherwise her dish was good. I ordered the stew beef and the cow intestine with mushrooms. Being real authentic chinese type of food it was pretty good. Both of the portions were plentiful. It came with tea and both my wife and I were fulled for only $4.50 / dish. If you want some cheap eats this is definitely the place. Don't expect any service or great ambiance, just cheap eats.

Decent but not outstanding
Submitted Sunday, December 28, 2008 - 5:18pm [Dine in]

My wife and I went to this restaurant the other day. From reading all the other wonderful reviews we thought we would give it a try. We ordered the House Special chow mein crispy noodles with spicey sauce and the Singapore style chow mein. The food came out hot and fresh. The House Special was pretty good. It had squid, prawns, carrots, broccoli, bok choy and bar-b-q pork. The sauce was plentiful and not as spicey as I anticipated. Actually there was too much sauce for the crispy noodles making it soggy. Overall good. The Singapore style chow mein was ok. Nothing to rave about. We manage to save some for the next day but unfortunately it does not taste too good as leftovers compare to other leftovers from other chinese restaurant. The service was good. Always prompt and polite. The cleaniness is ok, about average for a typical chinese restaurant. The carpet looks like it could go for a nice cleaning. The decor is old and needs some updating. All in all, this was an average meal. If you need your chinese food fix and need it now locally, then this is the place. If you are willing to travel a bit, I will go elsewhere. Overall it was a satisfactory experience.

My wife and I and another couple went for AYCE sushi for lunch. The food was prepared fresh and fast. The hot food was hot and the cold food was cold. We stuffed our face with yummy sushi and hot dishes that we had problems moving...or at least I did. The various sushi was well prepared and the price is right. Would recommend to friends and will return in the near future.

Submitted Monday, December 1, 2008 - 9:50am [Dine in]

My wife and I along with a friend went to this restaurant just this last Sunday evening. Unfortunately we had to wait around 20 minutes, but we were promptly given a table when one was available. My wife ordered the veal with pasta, our friend ordered the Pestore (clams, mushrooms, shrimps and scallops) with cream sauce with gnoochi (pasta) and I ordered the same Pestore in garlic butter in white wine sauce in spinach linguine. The food came out nice and hot. My dish there could have been more seafood as I noticed that the mushrooms were dominant. The flavour was good. My wife and our friend had the same cream sauce for their pasta and I thought it was medicore. The cream was a bit thick and not too much flavour. My wife's veal was okay. All in all the dining experience was positve. We will try other restaurant before we come back.

Love the AYCE fish and chips
Submitted Wednesday, October 29, 2008 - 2:32pm [Dine in]

My wife and I went here as we were craving some all-u-can-eat fish and chips. The service was attentive and prompt. The fish was lightly battered which I like compared to other deep batter fish where there is more batter than fish. Here it is light and tasty. The chips were freshly cutted. Both fish and chips came out hot and fresh. The whole experience was very positive and would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is craving some excellent fish and chips.

My wife and I went to this new restaurant for the buffet lunch for $9.99/each. The used to be Knight and Day is cleaned up and looks pretty good. The buffet was typical...like any other East Indian restaurants. I tried the lamb curry, butter chicken, nann, and masala etc. I enjoyed the lamb curry very much but the butter chicken was not so good. There was some fat from the chicken (must have been thighs/legs definitely not chicken breasts) also the butter chicken was over cooked as I found it too dry. The masala was pretty good. The nann was cold, a little burnt definitely not fresh. It must have been sitting there for awhile as it was under the heat lamp and it was still cold. Overall the experience was ok, but not anything to write home about. If this is any indication of what the dinner is like then I will go elsewhere as there are a lot of even better East Indian restaurant only a few minutes away.

Food was excellent and the service was great.
Submitted Monday, October 6, 2008 - 3:26pm [Dine in]

My wife and I went here with an entertainment coupon on Thursday night and it was gladly accepted. We had their special which was salmon with a tomatoe cream base sauce and their version of butter chicken along with some rice and naan. The sauces was to die for. The service was excellent and on top of things. The owner came over and inquired about our dining experience which was nice. As per the other review about having children and not serving them and that they question the cleaniness of the restaurant, I disagree. First, this restaurant is not exactly children oriented type of restaurant. It is quite small and having kids who are playing can disrupt the other patrons. Secondly, I closely inspected the cleaniness as stated by the other writer .......the restaurant is spotless. Or at least it was the day I went. The floors was so clean that it shined. Lastly, while we were finishing off our dinner, there was a family with a small child that came in, they were promptly served and it would appear that the owner was very accomadating by having a high chair for the little one. Overall my experice at Simba's Grill was very good. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation.

Submitted Monday, October 6, 2008 - 3:06pm [Dine in]

My wife and I went here for some take out on the pull pork sandwiches. Needless to say that I was not disappointed. The pull pork was tender, moist and full of flavour. I was very impressed with the sandwiches. I would definitely go back for more. Once you finish one....you wish that you had another.

Decent food, service can be lacking.
Submitted Friday, September 19, 2008 - 10:44am [Dine in]

My parents and I went to this little restaurant for lunch last Sunday. My wife and I went previously on a weekday a month back and the lunch menu's price was very reasonable and the food was tasty. Unfortunately this second time around was not as memorable. The price is more expensive than on a weekday (actually the same as the dinner price), there was no lunch specials. The service was brupt and at times rude. The food was decent for the most part, portions was on the smaller side. One of the three noodle dishes we order had canned ham....poor quality in my opinion. Other than that the other two noodle dishes (Singapore noodles and rice noodles with beef) were pretty good. It would be long time till we will go back as there are many other better chinese restaurants to eat at than this one.

Went here to celebrate my B-Day...came away upset and disappointed!!!!
Submitted Friday, September 12, 2008 - 4:49pm [Dine in]

I went here for my B-Day and I was very disappointed with this establishment. First I called over 2 weeks to reserve for 20+ people and the hostess stated that they do not do reservation for the day I wanted. She stated that if I wanted to have that many people in my party that I had to come early. The time for most of the group was to come at 6pm. My wife and two others came at 5:00pm to have a few drinks and save some tables. The majority of the group came in and about 6:00pm and we were all seated approx. 22 people upstairs. It took 20 minutes before the waitress came to take our drink orders. We still haven't received our drinks when the waitress came over and advised us that we had to leave by 7:00pm as the owner has a private function. So it was well over 6:30 and we haven't ordered our food and they are planning to kick us out at 7pm. I was so upset and choked at this request. If they wanted the upstairs for a private function then they should have closed it off sooner, rather than have a group go up there. My friends all agree to take our time and enjoy what was left off our evening. We ordered our food and took our sweet time. The food that night was good, not great but above average. The service was substandard. Several of my friends complained to the manager and I received a food coupon for future visits. Very disappointed in their business practice. The owner has to remember that the public is the reason why restaurant exist. Treating people like they did would only not have return business but they will tell others about their negative experience.

My wife and I went to this great little restaurant for a quick bite. I had the enchilada which came in a red souce (delicious) with rice and refried beans. This dish was awesome. My wife ordered the large buritto so we could share. That was quite tasty too. The value is very good and the flavour is very authentic. The service is awesome. There was only one waitress for the whole place and she was awesome. I mentioned to the waitress that we were in a rush, so she quickly placed our order and was very accomadating. Our dinner came out 10 minutes later and the waitress was on top of things. The only down side is the last time the waitress refilled out chips and salsa for free, this time she charged us for a refill. Other than that, we had a great experience.

Submitted Friday, September 5, 2008 - 5:58pm [Dine in]

My wife and I went to this restaurant because of hearing good reviews. This place is not much for ambiance but it sure makes up for the great tasting food. This establishment is more of a East Indian bakery than a restaurant. There are only four tables in the place. The menu is just a take-out menu. My wife and I order the veggie samosa to start and was not disappointed. It came out fresh and hot. Then we shared the lamb curry, butter chicken naan and mesola (veggie dish). The dishes were standard size compared to other East Indian restaurants. The flavour was outstanding. The butter chicken was rich and had some heat. The curry lamb was delicious and the mesola was very tasty. Was not disappointed with the quality of food. The price was reasonable.. The cook/owner came by to ask how was the meal and also informed us that they do not use any oil for their dishes which is nice to know. If you enjoy great food but could care less about decor, this is the place. Will definitely come back.

Great all-u-can-eat lunch
Submitted Sunday, August 31, 2008 - 1:17am [Dine in]

My wife and I went to this restaurant on Friday afternoon for lunch. We noticed that there were several tables available but the host stated that they were reserved. So we ended up sitting at the sushi bar. It was quite enlightening watching how the sushi was being made. We ordered several sushis, Korean Bar-B-Q and sashimi. The sashimi was excellent. Granted we had a limit of 8 per person, the salmon sashimi was large and tasty. The sushi was fresh and came in a timely manner. The Korean Bar-B-Q was delicious, there was a fair amount of meat at our end of the bar. All the meats was marrinated perfectly but the beef was the most tender and flavourful. The service was prompt and attentive. I was very impressed with the treatment overall. It is much better than the Burrard counterpart. I would highly recommend this place for lunch. I am looking forward to trying the dinner menu.

Stepho's Greek Taverna1124 Davie St, Vancouver
Not the best...not the worst
Submitted Friday, August 22, 2008 - 4:46am [Dine in]

My wife and I went to Stepho's for lunch and was quite surprised that we were able to be seated within 10 minutes. I ordered the roasted lamb and my wife order the chicken solvaki. She said her meal was quite good. The chicken was tender and the rice was flavourful. The greek salad was ok as it had too many onions and green pepper....otherwise her dish was very good. I ordered the roasted lamb which the meat came off easily. Not too much flavour as I added more salt and pepper to it. The greek salad was satisfactory and the rice was a bit greasy. The carrot and celery in a stew like side dish was good. My only compliant was that each dish came with pita bread yet the roasted lamb meal did not come with tzaziki sauce. I had to ask the waitress for some and she charged me for it. I found that being a bit cheap. Overall my experience was satisfactory. You get a fair amount of food for the price. I had tried better Greek food but you are paying for it.

Wedding banquet dinner
Submitted Sunday, August 10, 2008 - 10:27pm [Dine in]

After reading the reviews I was worried about attending this restaurant for a wedding banquet dinner. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the good quality of food and service. The dinner consisted of 12 courses. The dinner was a 12 course meal and consisted of roasted pork/ jelly fish, deep fried crab claws, scallops in a potato nest, shark fin soup, lobster, gai lan w/ abalone, prawns and chinese mushrooms, crispy chicken, deep fried alaskan black cod, fried rice, and long live happy life noodles. Chinese pastries and tapioca pudding for dessert. The food was hot and fresh, and the staff was prompt in refilling the pop and tea. The wedding went well and I would return to this restaurant.

Nothing to scream about
Submitted Friday, August 8, 2008 - 2:04pm [Dine in]

We were going out with a large group and they wanted buffet, so thought we'd try this place out. The variety of different dishes was plentiful, ranging from meat you cooked yourself (pork & beef) to chinese noodles and sushi. Sushi was very limited and did not look very good, although we did not try it. The noodle dishes were good and the meat dishes were satisfactory. They tried to have some authentic chinese dishes, but fell a little short, being too salty and overcooked or bland and tasteless. The service was good, our water was refilled promptly and our dirty dishes were removed quickly. The desserts were limited and the ice cream was melting in the freezer.

Overall it was a satisfactory buffet, but I will not be returning anytime soon.

Good, but have had better
Submitted Friday, August 8, 2008 - 1:54pm [Dine in]

After reading the reviews on this place I just had to try it. I was expecting amazing food, and was slightly disappointed. It wasn't terrible, just not as good as the reviews had made it out to be. My wife had the medium rare beef pho, medium size, and I had the house special pho in the large size. There was a significant size difference and I would recommend upgrading to the large for the extra 50 cents. My wife found her beef to be a little tough and was all clumped together into balls of meat. The house special had beef tripe, tendons, beef balls and flank. I found the quantity to be smaller than I had read on these reviews. We also had the salad rolls with prawns and pork for an appetizer and those were very good, although they were more expensive than other restaurants. The servers did not speak very good english and were very pushy and impatient, wanting us to order immediately. We asked for more time and then another girl came a minute later. We had 2 girls constantly asking us if we were ready to order. Parking is definitely limited at this restaurant and the location is not a very nice one. We usually go to a place called Noodle Island in Fleetwood but thought we'd give this a try. Overall it was good, but we will be returning to noodle island in the future, which is very clean with friendly service and excellent Pho!!
