Went here with the family and another couple for dim sum lunch. At the previous location on Knight and Kingsway they had dim sum served a la carte. Unfortunately they are now made to order on the paper forms. The funny thing is that you can order on the sheet yet they come occassionally on a tray to sell the exact items that was on the sheet. So we pass on the tray dishes as we already ordered it on the sheet and unfortunately the sheet order dishes never came. The dim sum is similar to other dim sum restaurant, nothing special. Even the fried noodles special was the same if not more expensive than other restaurants at their regular price. The prices for dim sum has gone up to $2.75 for the small, medium and large dishes from $2.25. The extra large and special dishes are now $3.25 etc. The service is hit and miss at this place. At the previous location there was one really nice waitress while the rest can do with some courses in serving. There is a tea charge of approx. $3.00 which really entails tea leaves and hot water. I think they charge the same regardless of how many people at your table. The overall experience was satisfactory. I used to like The Roc at the old location and I thought I will give this new location a try. Sad to say that I had much better at closer locations to home.
Had my B-day lunch here with the family a few days ago. They greeted us promptly when we walked in and seated us right away. They offered the kids some crayons and colouring paper which kept them busy for awhile. Better half ordered the chicken burger with gacamole on the side with fires. I ordered the lamb burger with caesar salad. To start we had the towering onion rings. That was hot, fresh and tasty appy. The burgers were pretty good, but I found the caesar salad a bit too soggy for my liking. To accomopany our meals we had pop and freckle lemonades. The kids had some of our fries and was offered chocolate milk. I was very impressed with the service. The waitress was very "on the ball" as she had the refills ready just before we finished our drinks. Came to us to clear the plates when needed and asked us how our meal was and if we needed anything. Very proactive service for a change. They even offered us a sundae for my B-day. When the bill came, we had a entertainment coupon for the towering onion rings, whcih came off the bill. Also she comp my burger, sundae and even the kids chocolate milk. I was very surprise and happy with this dining experience that we are planning to come back very soon.
Went here with the family for a nice pho lunch. We both ordered the salad roll and I ordered the #2 pho with beef balls, tripe, tendons and all the other goodies while my better half ordered the I believe the #14 which is basically pho with rare beef flanks. The salad roll and the peanut sauce it came with tasted good, but the better half said that she tasted better. The pho came out hot and fresh with its sprouts, hot chilli peppers, lime and mint. We ordered the large which was only around $.50 more than the medium, There was ample amount of pho and ingredients. The broth tasted good and I was impressed with the overall experience that I had here. So when I am hungry for some good vietnamese food, I will certain venture to this restaurant again.
Went here for take out after a day of shopping. Ordered the Cali combo and a dynamite roll on the side. The total bill was almost $17. Received miso soup, 6 pieces of salmon sushi, 6 pieces of tuna sushi, 6 pieces of California roll, 6 pieces of Dynamite roll and the sushi chef threw in 4 pieces of Crunch roll. It was very nice of them to toss in the extra roll. Unfortunately the overall taste and value of the meal was satisfactory. I was not terribly impressed with the taste and quantity. I came here on the reference from other dinehere customer. The service was excellent but the quality of the sushi was just ok in my opinion. Would consider other sushi places in Surrey before coming back.
Went here with the special half for a birthday. We had a coupon sent as the birthday person gets their meal free up to $25 value. My better half order the 8 oz steak medium rare and I ordered the seafood in a red currey cream sauce in rice noodles. The better half meal came with mash potatoes, green beans and red peppers. My dish came in a creamy coconut red curry sauce/soup that had fish, prawns, mussels, clams etc. The soup was tasty and the seafood was plentiful for $21.99. The better half steak dinner costs $22.99 and it was done to perfection as the better half stated. They also brought out some bread with garlic butter and the water was never half empty for too long. The service was exceptional. They asked how the meal and top off the water when is was needed. I was very impressed. It was quite busy for a Tuesday evening as they had several parties on the go. The price can be a bit much if you did not have the coupon, but it is a great place to go out to have a nice dinner. Would recommend this place if you are incline for a romantic dinner or out with a group of friends.
Went here with the family for the Tuesday ALL U CAN EAT Fish, shrimps and chips for $15/person. The first batch of fish and chips and deep fried shrimps was delicious. Hot and tasty. The batter was not too heavy for the deep fried cod and the shrimp was crispy fresh. The chips/fries were ok, not crispy enough for my liking but otherwise satisfactory. It also came with some coleslaw which was satisfactory as well. Make sure you order in advance as it does take a few minutes to get your next order in as they are made to order. Overall it was good but nothing to write home about. The waitress was not overly friendly but not rude by any means. Kind of standoffish at times. She lightened up as the afternoon went. Overall this is a solid fish and chips place.
Went here with the family and ordered the 3 dishes package. The food came along with soup of the day which was some broth soup with meat. The complementary dish we chose was the deep fried fish. The 3 dishes we chose was the deep fried spicy prawns which were nice plump and spicy but lack quantity compare to other restaurants. The other dish we chose was the sweet and sour beef tenderloins and 1/2 roasted chicken. The dishes overall was very good. They came out hot and fresh. My only gripe was that you only received 3 servings of rice. We had 4 adults and 2 toddlers. If you wanted to order more plain steam rice it would have cost extra. We were used to other restaurants where there is no limit on the rice. The price overall was $45 plus tax and tip. The value was okay, would have been better if the rice was at least a bucket full. It was only 3/4 full. Probably not return as there are other restaurant with better value.
Went here with the family for lunch. The specials were reasonably priced at $7.99/dish. Better half had the Pad Thai and I had the Spicy beef with vegetables on rice. Both dishes came with spring roles and tea. My spicy beef was very tasty and fresh. My better half's pad thai was ok. We had better. The service was second to none. The waitress was very attentive to our needs as the kids were restless. Overall the dining experience here was wonderful and would return whenever I am in the neighbourhood.
Went here for a date night with the better half. Had the dinner special along with the deep fried California roll. The dinner special included the miso soup, tempura, ebi sumanno , dynamite roll, sashimi and spicy salmon. roll. I know the spelling may be off but the sushi here is exceptionally delicious. The service is prompt and friendly. I was very impressed with their presentation and taste of all the food. I even had take out from them again after a few days because I was craving some tasty sushi. Highly recommend this little hidden gem.
Went here with a friend for a lunch and from the get go I knew I should have just turned around and walked out. The server were pushy and rude when they wanted to get by you. We seated ourselves and ordered our lunch after a few minutes. I ordered the 6oz steak sandwich along with soup and my buddy ordered the beef dip. The food arrived 10 minutes later which was good as we were starving. The steak was over cooked a bit and came on one slice of toast. The soup of the day was thick like beef chilli and was satisfactory. The steak sandwich for $11.95 was definitely not worth it. The piece of steak was of such poor quality that it was very chewy and bland. You had to add salt and A-1 sauce to swallow it. My friend said the beef dip was ok. The bun and fries were good but the shaved beef was too of poor quality. When we finished we asked for our bill to be separate. She came back with one bill with both of our orders. I repeated myself saying that we wanted separate bills. The old looking brunette seemed annoyed and storm off and said that she will take care of it. Wanting to get out asap, we went up to the till to pay. She then showed up really annoyed and rude. We finally had our bills separated and paid. The service was very poor and the attitude from this server was enough that I will never come back again.
Went here at 8pm with the better half and found this place from the entertainment book. The accepted the coupon for the buffet dinner. There is a fair amount of varieties of Indian dishes. They kept putting in new and fresh dishes for the ones that were less than half full. The taste of the food was very good for an AYCE restaurant. Service was very good as well. They kept the water topped up and asked us several times how the food was. Impressed with the service and dining experience. If I was ever craving for Indian food and wanted an AYCE place, this restaurant would be one to consider.
Went here for dimsum last weekend and they had a decent menu and satisfactory service. Quite busy with customers. The dimsum comes out a la cart which you get to see what you eat first. The dimsum is hot and fresh and the staff can be attentive. The price is status quo with other dimsum restaurants. Parking can be a pain if you do not come early enough. Overall impression is I would come back for dimsum when I am in the neighbourhood.
Went here with the family and had dimsum lunch. We were told that they do not charge for tea which is incorrect. They not only charge you for tea, but they charge per person. They even charged our 2 infants....like a baby is going to drink hot tea. I find it stupid that they charge per person as they only have one tea pot and another one with hot water. They are not refilling it with fresh tea or anything. You could have 10 people or one person but you still get one tea pot and another one with hot water only. They even add up incorrectly.....so watch your bill as they add on a few dollars here and there. Well the dimsum was ok. Nothing to rave about. The advertisement outside states that they have $1.99/dish...which they do but they are few and far between. Most of the dishes are $3.00-$5.00/dish. They are not dimsum a la cart but you order it from a form. You do not get to see what you are getting but at least they come out hot and fresh. You have to pay for parking which is $4.00/3hrs yet you get that back when you present them with the ticket stub. Overall there are too many other dimsum places that have better value.
Went here with the significant other for a night out. I had the roasted lamb shoulder and my better half had the chicken dinner. The dinner was hot, fresh and plentiful. The dinner came with a roasted potatoe, rice, greek salad, pita bread with dipping sauce. There was a lot of food. The roasted lamb costed $17 and the chicken costed $16. The price was satisfactory. The service was very good and attentive. Not the worst but not the best greek food I ever had. Overall impression I would recommend this restaurant if you want a solid greek meal.
Today my family went to this restaurant for lunch. My better half and I had the AYCE lunch for $12.99 each. The kids were only toddlers and they have their "gold fishes: and snacks. Their high chair are too short for their high table, thus the kids are a foot below the table. The ambiance is nice if you were having the show for dinner. The sushi lunch selection was pitiful. There was only 22 items on the list and they had "white rice" as one of the dishes. Very limited selection. Actually embarrassing and insulting especially when you compare to other AYCE Japanese restaurants. Now when the food finally arrived it was tasteless and worst than the Japanese fast food take out. The teriyaki chicken tasted funny, better half was repulse by the taste. The prawn sushi was rubbery and tasteless. They even skimp on the wasabi and picked ginger. I do not believe that they are trying to pass themselves off as a sushi restaurant when clearly they are not. The only advantage they have is that there is only a few AYCE sushi restaurant in the Surrey area. I rather drive a hour with the kids screaming their heads off to go to Vancouver than ever eat here again.
Went here for lunch and was seated with a bunch of other people who were of small parties. Order 3 dimsum dishes and was pleasantly surprised that the size of each plate was quite large. Taste was pretty good and the servers were not too bad. They occasionally bumped into people who's chair were near their path. That got annoying at times as they were bumping into people and forcing their way to move on. Fortunately for me I was not near their warpath. My disappointment comes from the lady who I believe is the manager or at least one of them if not the owner. I heard her being pushy with some customers and she could learn some manners. When I went up to pay for my lunch she was busy counting the tips. We made a brief eye contact but she did not give me an indication that she will be helping me soon. So I stood there waiting for her to finish her counting. Then she went off to give another person their bill without acknowledging me at all. After several minutes of waiting she finally printed off my bill and I paid leaving very little tip as the meal was spoiled but her rudeness. Otherwise I had a pleasant meal.
Went here with the family and parents tonight. We ordered the usual, which consist of sweet and sour beef tenderloins, honey garlic pork chops, seafood with gai lan, spicy crab and the soup of the day. The food was delicious but the service was sub par. I asked for hot sauce and they forgot. I had to go to another waitress and ask and she plunk it on the table. They took my wife's plate which she was using and did not replace it. When we asked for another plate we gotten napkins instead. Before the meal was completed, the snotty short middle age waitress with round glasses put the fortune cookies and sliced oranges on the table. Hinting to leave already. We had two infants with us and we were still eating. I thought that was rude of her. So when I went up to pay for the bill I put the dinner on my credit card. I was waiting for it to process when the snotty short middle age waitress left and went to the kitchen. She did not say a word to me and just left. I waited till another waitress came and ask her for the slip for me to sign as I thought it went through already. It did not, the waitress could not find the slip for the customer to sign. Finally the snotty short waitress came back and shoo the other waitress away. She said it did not process and made me feel that it was my fault. I told her I do not mind going through the payment process again as long as I am not charged twice. Needless to say she was getting irritated, I could see it in her face as it twitched. The second time did not go through......and her attitude was getting worse. On the third try I was so sick of her poor service that I did not tip on the credit card machine. But somehow it default back to the main menu if you do not put in a tip. On the fourth try I still did not tip as she was getting rude and said that I did not tip. I barked at her back that tips are for good service only. And you did not give us good service. Finally it process and I left. I can not stand in this day and age that people demand tip for poor customer service. They feel that it is entitlement. I have no problem in tipping as long as it is justified. I would recommend this restaurant for the food only.
Went here to pick up some dim sum. The selection is like usually. They have shrimp dumplings, pork dumplings, beef dumplings, wontons, sticky rice, buns etc, the usual dim sum fare. The quality is great considering they are frozen. The staff is friendly and I can see them make the dim sum in the back room. The only difference with this visit than the previous visits is that the price has gone up substantially. For example, once the shrimp dumplings (50 per bag) were approx. $12.50/bag are now $16.25/bag and the beef and pork dumplings were once approx $11/bag are now $13.25/bag. The price has gone up considerably. They stated that the price of ingredients has gone up thus they price increase. I believe it is the HST and the high cost of living in the Lower Mainland's fault for the increase in price. I will still order from them, but less as it is getting costly.
Went here with the better half and kids as well as another family. We ordered a huge varieties of the dim sum dishes that was offered. Some of the dishes such as the shrimp and pork dumplings were hot and fresh. The buns came out steaming hot and the deep frieds dishes were fresh and not suggy. The serve you with the cart (old school) style. The staff is friendly enough but you have to flag them down if you want things like hot sauce or refill on the tea. When we were done, stuffed and satisfied. I noticed that they charged an extra $5 for tea as we had 4 adults, one 11yrs old and two infants. I was a bit disappointed with that charge as other dim sum restaurant do not charge for tea. It was not like we had more tea than other smaller group. They just add hot water but did not add more tea leaves. Fortunately the food made up for that. Next time in the future, I may opt out of tea and have water only or give them less for tips. Overall I was satisfied with the experience.
Went here for the AYCE lunch on Monday afternoon with the better half and kids. Unfortunately they no longer have the AYCE for lunch but it is still available for dinner. They stopped the AYCE lunch at the beginning of MAY/11. So we ended up with ordering the lunch special for two. It came with 2 miso soups, 2 salads, tempura, tuna and slamon sashimi, tuna and salmon sushi, BC rolls and Cali rolls. The salad was a bit too sour ) too much vinegar, as the better half said that my lips was turning white. LOL. But the other dishes/sushi was awesome. Very tasty and fresh. They were nice enough to also give extra samples as they noticed that we were disappointed that the AYCE is no longer. They made up by giving the extra food and exceptional service. This restaurant is run by very friendly and courteous staff. They were patient enough to not say anything as one of the kids was crying a bit. I will now go for the dinner AYCE since the lunch AYCE is no longer.
