Good food, lousy service
Submitted Friday, May 29, 2009 - 2:56pm [Dine in]

Went back to Seb's today after a 12 month absence. I love the food. So why was I gone for 12 months? The service. Almost 100% of my visits there is some issue. So while i'm on a rant:

THE BAD: As I said, the service is the Achilles' Heal of this place.

* Today (a hot day) no one refilled my water and despite having an empty pint glass for over 20 minutes, no one asked if I wanted another. There were at least 3 servers and only ~ 10 tables (including outside).

* My bill was delivered sometime later even though I still wanted a dessert and a coffee. But no one asked.

THE GOOD: The food - I love it.

* There are few places like this around (les Faux Bourgeois (Kingsway and Fraser) is close by and far superior (especially the service) but it isn't opened for lunch).

* Today I had a great ravioli in a cream-garlice-white wine sauce. My only complaint about this was it was a little on the small side and could have done with even a slice of bread. I'm not a big eater and I'll need to have another meal in ~ 3 hours.

* Also, the beer on tap is local and there was a choice between a nice light beer (whcih I had) and a darker beer.

I guess I'll come back sometime in 2010 and hope that the service has improved. I really want this place to survive because it could be a great asset in this area. It just needs to get it's act together.

So delicious, such a great value!

We love this place. The food is fantastic (I'm salivating thinking about the ribs burt more on that in a second).

Place is located on the north side of Kingsway a few stores east of Windsor St. Parking is easy and free. There are plenty of tables and several private booths. Service is friendly and efficient. But "so what?" you say - what about the food?

The food is delicious. I've had about 15 different items here and they are consitenly full of flavour. The marianated beef ribs (Hanwu galbi) as I said are a highlight - very tender and bursting with meaty goodness.

All main dishes are served with a number of small compimentary plates of banchan (side dishes), inlcuding kimchi, dongchimi, ggakdugi, and so on. If this doesn't mean anything to you I suggest you do 2 things: (1) go there and try it; and (2) check out "banchan" on Wikipedia.

The meat dishes (are nicely grilled and marianated in a sort of sweet-soy sauce under very tender.

I could go on but you get the picture. In terms of value for dollar Cho Sun is fantastic. I can't wait to go again!

Fantastic food, great service!

My wife and I love this place. We've been about five times and recommended it to our friends and family.

Highlights: food is consistently delicious and portions are good. I love the buffalo burger, very succulent and full of flavour. The wings are great and my wife usually talks about these for about a week before and after we visit. Nice selection of locally brewed beer and the price is right. Service is top notch. Parking is easy to come by on Kingsway or right around the corner. Despite all of this it's easy to get a seat!

Lowlights: because it hasn't been discovered yet it can feel a little quiet. That's about it.

Enjoy, I think I'll go again this weekend. :)

If you like mediocre beer and lousy service then this is for you!

This place is close to my work so from time to time someone who doesn't know better makes a reservation at Snarley McNasty's.

The beer is the standard bland fare served with little flavour. When last there I asked if they had any microbrews on tap. The waitress looked at me like I was speaking Latin. She honestly didn't know what a microbrew was.

Service was (and usually is) downhill from there. Rarely a "thanks" is mumbled or a water is topped up. Food is ok as is the ambiance.

If you care at all about food or drink then don't go here. The Lion's pub is slightly better and close by, as is Moose's Down Under (oddly located below street level and with a smell of smoke at the entrance but the service is superior), or Steamworks for a place that serves real beer.

Snarley McNasty's, may you drown in your own "Plastic Paddy" decor before the Olympics arrives so at least tourists don't have to suffer.

Great Cantonese food in family-diner-style atmosphere

We've been here maybe 40 times in the last 6 years. The chicken curry is deliciously smooth. The spicy green beans are always cooked perfectly and nicely flavoured. Another favourite is the sweet and sour pork - yum yum!

Service is ok, pretty efficient and friendly. I'm surprised that others have had bad experiences, we never have in all our visits.

Place gets pretty busy in the evenings and I've seen line ups more than a few times.
