Hideout Cafe716 Carnarvon St, New Westminster
a little gem
Submitted Thursday, July 24, 2008 - 4:57pm [Dine in]

The Hide Out is a little gem for breakfast or lunch located on Carnarvon Street in New West. The main room is both lovely and casual in warm tones of burnt orange, with a high ceiling and granite flooring. There is seating with street views and for sunny days, there is ample outdoor seating as well.

I haven't been for breakfast yet, but have been repeatedly for the grilled lunch wraps. The mango chicken wrap comes in a tomato tortilla and the flavors of basil and mango blend delicously with the melted cheese, rice and generous chunks of chicken. The baja wrap is a vegetarian's delight - rice, beans, and feta chicken and just the right combination of spices all in a spinach tortilla. I have also enjoyed the half a wrap and a bowl of soup combo. (I haven't yet tried the turkey wrap, but that is only because I don't eat bacon.) I love the wide selection of organic teas, available in traditional black, green and herbal varieties. I like to finish off my meal with one the Hide Out's fantastic (and big!)home made chocolate chip cookies.

This is a spot worth searching out. The neighborhood is a couple of blocks up from the waterfront and is going through some changes - all for the good. High rise condos are springing up and new shops are opening.
