Pho 99 Vietnamese Noodle House8611 Alexandra Road, #180, Richmond
good pho no complaints here
Submitted Monday, April 23, 2012 - 9:29pm [Dine in]

we went on a weekday afternoon around 2 pm, the restaurant was not busy, i like the booths at this place and it is never too busy, and no wait for a table. Ordered a special pho and a pork chop sandwich, salad roll and an avocado shake, the sandwich was exceptional, great fresh bread and good meaty filling. The pho was ok, seems like the pho was sitting around for a bit because the noodles were in a sticky clump, which tells me they were sitting in the bowl for a while. salad roll was acceptable, i didn't try the avocado shake. Not my favourite pho in the area, but i would return without hesitation.

we come here when we're the area, the neighborhood is pretty rough this place is next to a barber shop and tattoo parlor., but this is surrey not west Vancouver. We ordered bowls of pho and a chicken rice. Both bowls of pho and the rice were above expectations. The pho came with fresh and plenty bean sprouts. Rice was served with the usual sides. was a great cheap experience.

average food, poor service
Submitted Friday, February 24, 2012 - 11:13pm [Dine in]

we went with a party of 6, the service started out ok, waiter took our order good. When food came the service stopped for some reason either they were short staffed, the the waiter in charge of our section did not want to serve us. I saw him giving other tables good service but not ours.
I think other tables ordered king crab, so that is why all his attention was focused on others. Well anyway the food that came was good, very creative chef as the dishes came out good, hot and fresh.
Only thing is the meal was not as enjoyable as it could have been, when your table is filled with dirty plates and you need a water refill in your tea pot. Otherwise meal was ok.

we were a party of 5, on a Monday afternoon at 1pm, although on the weekends it is busy for these types of restaurants, today we were able to grab a table for 8 near the front window nice and roomy. Service was quick and efficient, the servers were really on the ball. We filled out the paper check list with all the goodies that we would like to order and handed it in. Food started to arrive about 8 minutes later, shrimp dumplings, fried shrimp rolls, asst. steamed dumplings, boiled veg with oyster sauce, garlic stir fired gai lan and beef innards. All well done.
Bill arrives, no complaints! we leave as happy campers!!

we went here as a party of 6, i like the seating here as there are lots of booths and the dining is quite private. We sat down ordered from the menu as all you can eat. Food was very good, and came out quick. There was no service to speak of as there was no organization. All the service staff were doing the food running, with no one in charge of looking after the tables. Very dis organized, as we did not have a waiter, just all these food runners that are on the way back to the kitchen, that you would yell out and hope they would stop to service your table.
Anyways, it is what it is. I actually had a pretty good meal, besides the lack of service, there was a diner at the next table that was having a spirited conversation with his dinning companions. He was literally yelling at the top of his lungs speaking his native language(mandarin) having a great time. Pretty annoying for the rest of us around his table having to listen to it while eating. Not the restaurants fault, just takes away from the experience. when we were done, we had to ask at least 5 times for the bill from different servers on their way back to the kitchen, and leave the table full of dirty dishes and still boiling hot pot, because there was no one that wanted to service our table,
Anyways, i left the appropriate tip for the level of service experienced here, we'll have a better meal sometime else, somewhere else. pity, i felt the food was pretty good.

went here as a a party of 2 on a Friday night, parking was bad in the area and had to park on a side street about 4 blocks away. Lots of restaurants in the area so parking is at a premium. I like thie restaurant because of the friendly service and the main seating area is mostly booths which i prefer over tables and chairs. Tea and menus were served promptly and we ordered the standard. Curry beef, gai lan and beef, fried green beans. their skewers are good but we did not get them on this trip.

no complaints here, food, service and as expected.

We went as a table of 15 in a 10 person table for dinner on a Saturday night, things were a bit tight as the table was small. that was ok we made do with what we got. Food came and was served by a waiter that was competent, but not very happy. id some it up with him just doing his job and not very friendly or happy. Food, was very small dishes, taste was soso, there were not many highlights to the meal. Fish maw soup was ok, crab claw ball were the highlight if i had to pick one dish. veggie dishes were small and lackluster for the price and caliber of this place. Peking duck and lettuce wrap were also lacking the enthusiasm of a spirited chef. Maybe it was a off night, maybe the chef was on vacation. also check out the inspection reports on this place, doesn't seem like they can get their act together in the kitchen qs the inspector has to come back many times for re inspection.

many other restaurants to spend my money at in Richmond at this price point, i don't think i will be back for a while.

we were taking a stroll around kerrisdale on a lazy Sunday afternoon, we parked near this place and decided to go in for a bite. Pretty simple place and at 5 pm on sunday the place was not busy. We had some drink and food. The place caters to asians, i would imagine that they will understand you if you speak english to them, but definitely they will not be native speakers.
value is fine for what you get, i agree with the previous poster that they are a bit stingy with the napkins. Overall this place is fine and will go back if in the area.

Landmark Hot Pot House4023 Cambie Street, Vancouver
great service, good food
Submitted Sunday, January 8, 2012 - 2:50pm [Dine in]

now i'm of the school of thought that if i am going out for a nice meal and paying for it, why would i want to cook it myself? Anyways we went to this restaurant for Hot pot with a group of about 8 people. The food came as expected raw, and fresh. Meats looked good, veggies looked fresh, noodles looked, well... like raw noodles. Service was great! we pretty much had a waiter to ourselves and he was motivated to please. It was a birthday dinner and we had brought out own cakes, waiter was eager to serve us and interact. There were 2 kids in our party and he brought out ice cream for them as well, no charge (not sure if ice cream is standard service, or waiter was just being nice)

As for value, the price is extra ordinary expensive, when looking at the bill at home i cant believe the prices of some of the items on the bill. examples of this are, a plate of raw beef balls are $11, we asked for some XO sauce, and we were expecting to pay something for this, i look at the bill here at home they are $4 a plate. wow! with that being said, there were extras that are included in the price these are unlimited sauces(sesame, sa cha,) unlimited plum drink, and the free ice cream mentioned above. I am not a hot pot fan so i am not sure if these items are standard at other restaurants or if others charge for them.

We got a hearty goodbye departure from the waiter and left the restaurant feeling very satisfied.
I'm usually not a fan of hot pot restaurants but this one was a great experience!

come here often as we live in the area, food is the usual for this type of establishment. Food comes hot and fresh. As long as you know what to expect, this place does not seem to disappoint. the parking area in front of the restaurant entrance is small, i try not to park here as i don't want any dings in my doors. If you park in their parking lot be aware that the parking spots are tiny.

Great Sushi from a once a week customer!
Submitted Sunday, January 1, 2012 - 9:31pm [Take-out]

i come here for sushi about once a week, these include the sushi we bring home on a week day, and the times when we have family gatherings or parties where we need to bring some food. The sushi here is great! the service is fast, and efficient. The staff here is fast and very smiley. They seem to get the point of customer service.

I usually go with the party trays, even when bringing home as i like the variety and large portions. But sometimes i like to order a la carte.

fills the need when you are hungry and don't want to cook.

Sawasdee Thai Restaurant4250 Main St, Vancouver
good solid thai
Submitted Sunday, January 1, 2012 - 9:20pm [Dine in]

We went in for some Thai, we have never been to this restaurant, but i am not sure if they are busy because it was new years day or because it is always this busy. We were warmly greeted and service was quick and efficient. Waters were always filled, and there is a plate change between appies and entree.

Our order was taken with care and patience, the staff here really seem to like being here. We were seated close to the front of the restaurant were the bar/reception area is. In walked what looked like a regular customer ordering take out, the staff gave him a new years hug and gave him a free beer while waiting for his food. Talk about great service!

Food: the food was a lot salty for us, not sure if this is just our taste, or the chef was heavy with the salt on this night. If i had to guess, i would say the food is geared for a more robust palate. meaning it is always this salty.

Other thoughts, we ordered a green curry, usually green curry comes with eggplant, my favorite, theirs did not come with eggplant, a major disappointment.

Overall it was a good meal, the food is not to our taste, but it was well done.

a great bowl, the gold standard,
Submitted Wednesday, December 14, 2011 - 8:34pm [Dine in]

as the title says, this bowl of pho from this place is the pho that i measure all other bowls against. I have been coming here since high school, that's about 20 years ago. Their bowl of pho is the best, when i am on vacation, and get home sick, thoughts of this restaurants pho come to mind. Don't talk about the service here as there is none, sometimes on the weekend when weekend students, or the owners kids are serving do you get any attentive service. Other times when the regular ladies are working you are lucky to get service, they pretend they don't see you. I am ok with this as long as you walk in here knowing to expect poor service.
thumbs up for their pho, and fried spring rolls.

is good not great
Submitted Wednesday, December 14, 2011 - 8:24pm [Dine in]

i usually come her once every month. The food is good but there is an air of arrogance to the suited male employees, the waiters are fine at what they do. It seems like the suits are a bit stiff or some other quality that i can not put a finger on. I like their food and the quality of the ingredients. True they are more expensive but for the area and ambiance, i think it is about par for the course.
One thing i don't like is the lack of good tables in the place as the main dinning area is oddly shaped, we got seated as a table of 4 in a high traffic area, not ideal, but due to lots of walking room around the table, i reluctantly took it.
its ok.

was good but they need another server
Submitted Sunday, November 13, 2011 - 8:14pm [Dine in]

went as a twosome here on sunday morning. got seated in a twosome table right in front of the kitchen pick up window. we got a good view of the 2 chiefs and 1 waitress serving the entire restaurant. She was busy as she was doing everything, hostess, cashier, busing, and serving. She needed some more help but her attitude was good, besides a little slow service, everything else was ok.

we ordered pea shoots, xialong buns, beef noodle soup and green onion pancake. We had no room on our table to put all 4 dishes, so we ate holding our little bowl and all other dishes occupying the postage stamp size table. After we were done i decided to bus our own table and remove some of the dishes to the service cart in the back and also refilling our water glasses from the jug on the counter.

i was a little put off on the $1.50 for hot tea, which is free at other restaurants like this, but just had water instead, at least it was clear on the menu that tea is not free.

i was fine doing this as the waitress was swamped. I found the value a little expensive for what we got, but it was a good experience.

went here as a couple, on a Saturday night. The restaurant had about 3 tables filled and we were the fourth. Seems like a neighborhood place as the staff remember customers names as they are picking up their take out. Ordered a few dishes and everything was fine. a little out of the way for us, so don't think i would go specifically for this place.
