I would not try again
Submitted Thursday, November 10, 2011 - 5:03pm [Dine in]

Food was not disappointing but neither impressive. Service was where I had to struggle this time; everything is so slow and I had to spend 1.5 hrs just to eat a pasta, Parmesan was brought when half of the pasta was all eaten. I think it is ok to spend here if just coming for food for a slow lunch, but I would not recommend if interested in a perfect time spending in Gastown. I myself probably would not try this place again...

Morally Wrong
Submitted Friday, October 14, 2011 - 8:56pm [Dine in]

When a restaurant serves foods with cold and plastic flavor, and charging like top level restaurant, it is just morally wrong. Waiters are unmotivated and I am not surprised if it is because they receive negative comments from customers all the time. It is just wrong here...Only the view is fantastic, you may come here to pay for the view, not for the foods.

Sushi like you can eat in Japan
Submitted Saturday, February 26, 2011 - 8:56pm [Dine in]

One of the best sushi I have eaten in Canada. The kind of fish you find here are not easy to see in the menu in other ordinary sushi restaurants in the city, no wonder as the chef told me he is getting them directly from Japan everyday by plane. Freshness of sushi is surprising, for example when you order Saba in other restaurants, you see them the fish meat is all whitened because it was overly marinated or kept in frozen too long. Here, you see the fresh red meat and its taste is great. I will visit Sushi Hachi again.

Good Modern Thai
Submitted Friday, January 28, 2011 - 4:56pm [Dine in]

We were happy after spending a quality meal at this restaurant. The red interior decoration inspired modern sensation, waiters paid good care for customers' comforts. Among several dishes we tired here, our favorite was the Pad Thai, I never had this good Pad Thai before; the combination of ingredients and their original sauce was superb, but most of all, this texture and quality of their rice noodle was something amazing. I tried the top Thai restaurants in the town but regarding Pad Thai, I think Charm Modern Thai makes the best so far !

I was hunting for good sushi, but...
Submitted Tuesday, January 11, 2011 - 9:54pm [Dine in]

Tsukiji had quite variation of Japanese foods which is good that customers have many choices of dish to order. I only ordered deluxe assorted sushi and chawanmushi, so my comment here is solely based on these two dishes. Chawanmushi, which is not easy to see in the menu in many Japanese restaurants in North America, but they made quite nice one; right texture and hardness of egg, ingredients were also right and the flavor was just like what you can eat in Japan. It could have been better if they added gingko in it. Sushi, it was rather a disappointment, came with very small sizes of several pieces, rice was over cooked and almost melting in the mouth. It was called deluxe and they asked for the price of deluxe, so I expected something that reaches good satisfaction, but it did not. The kinds of sushi were definitely something you can see in a normal assorted sushi in other sushi restaurants. Fish were not so fresh either. I do not think you would be happy if you come here looking for good sushi. By the way, Tsukiji is known for fresh fish market in Japan...they named their restaurant such big name for the quality of sushi make.

no good...
Submitted Tuesday, December 21, 2010 - 5:35pm [Dine in]

Maybe a good place to drop by for a quick coffee or snack with a good view, but probably not a place to expect to dine out. Waiters seemed so tired and no quality services were provided, no wonder because only two of them were covering such many tables. Ordered hamburgers came to table after 40 min waiting, lukewarm cold, which made me guessing that foods were probably forgotten in the kitchen while waiters were busy serving other tables. And the price was the five star restaurant price ($18) but quality was no better than McDonald...no...not a good restaurant, I would probably never try again.

A+ !
Submitted Saturday, October 30, 2010 - 9:56pm [Dine in]

Outstanding restaurant, just Wow ! Mostly amazed by the creativity of the chef, not only by unexpected surprises when you put a piece into your mouth, but also by his artistic presentations that beautifully entertain your eyes...imagine what kind of harmonious surprises Strawberry Sass Roll (one of sushi rolls we tried tonight) would produce in your mouth. I also liked the modest atmosphere of the restaurant; unlike other noisy Izakayas that waiters are trained to shout out "irasshaimase" whenever customers come in and out, SS101 provides mature mood by simply quietly smiling back to customers. : ) And when we got the bill at the end of the dinner, another Wow ! Definitely SS101 became one of my favorite restaurants, I am sure will visit again soon.

Just beautiful. : )

The view is the price what you are paying for when/if you visit this restaurant, located on the hill in the center of Vancouver (Queen Elizabeth Park) that allows you to look down the downtown. The city night lights are particularly beautiful to enjoy. Sophisticated interior design and atmosphere, top class trained waiters, and foods are just wonderful. You gotta try their crab cake ! No question that you will successfully deliver a memorable evening if you want to impress someone special.

Wonderful
Submitted Wednesday, October 27, 2010 - 11:38pm [Dine in]

Located by the inlet beach in Deep Cove, the restaurant always welcomes with gentle warmth every time I visit. It is not only because the surrounding high mountains protect the place from the din of the city, but it is about how the restaurant responds its interior atmosphere to the seasonal change of its natural environment; beautiful flowers in patio in summertime and cozy homey mood inside restaurant during the foggy winter. Foods are generally good here, but I always order calamari whenever I visit the restaurant...I think they make the best calamari in Vancouver area. I have walked around and tried out restaurants eating calamari in many cities since I was surprised with the quality of calamari in Arms Reach, but so far this restaurant makes the best calamari in my opinion. My favorite time to visit the restaurant is the early evening in the summer; things are starting to settle down, and I sit in the patio, order calamari and Chardonnay, and enjoy the view and the moment time quietly passing by...

Poor Customer Service Spirit
Submitted Wednesday, October 27, 2010 - 10:40pm [Dine in]

I find ramens here are over priced for the quality and quantity they are serving. Noodles are not bad, but ramens are known for casual dining and without any adjusted improvement of quality of foods they are serving, I do not think it is worth to pay the price they are asking for. They have this Rice Bowl and Ramen Combo for about $15, and it is not only pricy but a lot carbs to take in as well. I was not happy with the idea you are controlled to spend minimum $7, and no credit cards are accepted in this restaurant.

Good food should be expected when you pay expensive, and yes, they served good quality. Beautiful interior decoration, and I almost thought this would be a nice place for a romantic evening, until the moment when waiters started to sing "Happy Birthday" loud, I mean out loud. I am not quite sure where a restaurant should make a line of friendliness; I mean it is good to see friendly gesture but you do not want to hear waiters singing in a 5 star restaurant...or maybe it was not a 5 star, but the food prices were...

Good sushi for such price !
Submitted Tuesday, October 26, 2010 - 8:05pm [Dine in]

No question, it is amazing that they can provide such amount and quality of sushi for such good price ! It maybe is not the high top sushi restaurant in the city but for the best value and satisfaction, I think Momo is the best sushi restaurant in downtown Vancouver. Located near Stanley Park so maybe a good idea to pick up takeout and enjoy sushi picnic in the park on a sunny day.

Good Chai Latte
Submitted Tuesday, October 26, 2010 - 7:51pm [Dine in]

Located near English bay, good place to take coffee break after a long walk of Stanley Park Sea Wall. Casually accessible and friendly atmosphere. Good coffees but I personally enjoyed their Chai Latte; fully flavored with Chai spices but not too strong, and it did not feel like the watery one that some cafes fail to perform how to make good Chai.

We were satisfied with their very authentic and home-made style Portuguese food here. Very good ! I recommend to try this restaurant if you are interested in enjoying real Portuguese style foods, but if you are looking for romantic atmosphere, maybe not the best restaurant... Prices maybe are a bit overly priced.
