Best Calamari
Submitted Saturday, April 7, 2012 - 9:23pm [Dine in]

We happened upon this restaurant and it was a good thing. The place was nearly deserted when we arrived, but it was a bit early. We started with the calamari and it was the best I have ever had, the breading was crispy and light not the usual heavy batter. It was delicious crispy and served with a non descript tasting dip. My daughter had the Lasagna, it was hot & bubbly with tons of melted gooey cheese. I had the roasted lamb shoulder, it was tender and flavourful, it came with a very nice rice, potatoes and carrots.

The decor was simple and not overdone like some Greek restaurants, nice tables without tablecloths which was nice because they were very shiny and clean.
The service was prompt and the server was really friendly and polite. The washroom was clean and tidy.
I will return when I'm in this area again.

Lovely Restaurant
Submitted Friday, March 30, 2012 - 11:30pm [Dine in]

I ate here March 28/12. I had 2 different rolls; avacado and real crab, and an ebi sunomono salad.
Everything was fresh and tated delicious. I was served tea, and it was topped up a few times while I ate.
The server was very polite and attentive. Ambiance was good, soft music and not too loud.
Very nice meal, I would return when in Langley.

Not the Earl's I remember
Submitted Sunday, March 18, 2012 - 12:18am [Dine in]

I have not been to Earls for ages, but went with co-workers last week. I was not too impressed. The food was passible, I had a Grilled Chicken and Baked Brie Ciabatta grilled chicken, melted brie, roasted apples, spinach, sweet fig jam, garlic mayonnaise, house baked ciabatta. It came with a salad that had seen it's best before date long before it was served to me! We were surprised to see that when the server said it would be deducted from the bill, only fifty cents was taken off! I did not like that the servers all wore skimpy black attire and stilleto heels, it was not suitable for a restaurant, maybe a nightclub. I thought the prices were too high for the amount and quality of the food. I also felt the service was just too impersonal.
No wonder I hadn't been to Earls for years, it will be many more before I voluntarily return.

Ikea Restaurant & Cafe1000 Lougheed Highway, Coquitlam
Conditions have deteriorated
Submitted Saturday, March 17, 2012 - 11:59pm [Dine in]

I haven't been to Ikea for a while and I have to say I was shocked to see how poorly the cafeteria is run.
The food was fine and a good value, it was the uncleanliness I was not happy about. There used to be areas with racks to place used dishes, but now there are only a few racks against a wall, they were all full and even the counters were covered with used trays and dishes. This was awful, there was no place to put the trays, we had to just pile them onto other ones. I also didn't like that the beverage areas were not kept clean. There was spilled coffee, pop and milk all over, some was dried on so obviously it hadn't been cleaned in quite some time. The dispensers were dirty and most were empty.
This is disgraceful, it used to be so clean and well kept.

I will never dine here again
Submitted Tuesday, February 21, 2012 - 8:35pm [Dine in]

This was not a good choice for Chinese food. Okay the place looked neat and clean, but as for the food forget it. I was not impressed at all, on a 1-10 scale (10 being the best) I rate it 2.5 - 3.
We ordered Spring egg rolls, they were fine but the sauce was a rather odd yellowish colour and there was only a scant amount in the serving dish for 2 of us to share.
The Honey garlic chicken wings were the biggest wings I've ever seen, really did they come from super-sized chickens or chickens on steroids? They were marginally passable, deep fried with some sort of bottled sauce poured over top.
The pan fried rice noodles with beef in black bean sauce was not at all to our liking, the noodles were over-cooked, cut into little pieces and were soggy. The beef was okay but not very flavourful.
Breaded boneless chicken with tangy lemon sauce, well the amount of chicken under the thick breading was miniscule, and I doubt any real lemons were invloved in the preparation of the bland sauce.
Cashew nut sauteed diced vegetables - okay the veggies & the cashews were crispy but the sauce was tasteless and the mushrooms were too large to eat in 1 bite.
Pineapple sweet & sour boneless pork: Tough meat, over cooked and the sauce was thin and vinegary, I did not like the taste at all. One of the worst sweet & sour sauces I've ever tasted.
When the server asked how we liked the food and we were honest, I could tell she was offended, but really!
Well, if you ask a question and are not prepared for the answer maybe customer service is not the best job for you. She quickly turned and walked away rudely, we stated the food was not to the standard of our usual/favourite place and she made a snide remark also. The other servers were not so rude, just one.

So this is not the place to go if you want good Chinese food in Abbotsford.

Always Great Food
Submitted Saturday, January 28, 2012 - 1:04pm [Dine in]

I can't believe I haven't rated Coza before. We often go here when we visit Langley.
The food is high quality, delicious and piping hot. We started with the Italian salad, which was crispy and very fresh. I had the Pasta Al Pesto, it was rich and creamy with tender pieces of chicken. My Mom had Chichen Reggiano with linguine alfredo. That's the nice thing about Coza, they will add, delete or sub anything you want to make your meal to your liking. We asked for virgin cocktails - watermelon lemonade (I think) and it was so delicious we had seconds. The ambiance is very old world Italian charm, and the staff very attentive, friendly and polite. Our server was Josh, he took care of us as if there were no other customers. I enjoy Coza's well prepared and tasty food, the quiet ambiance and great service.
It sure beats the frachised places that serve cardboard cut-outs that never look or taste different.

Not Worth a Second Visit
Submitted Saturday, January 28, 2012 - 12:45pm [Dine in]

Visiting Clark's was a mistake. It took forever to get a seat, menus and service. The service was slow and incompetent, the server walked around with plates of food, not knowing who he was to serve them to.
Now the food, that was not worth the money. The "Bowl" is a dish that combines potatoes & meats with eggs on top, the eggs came as fried over easy, the server didn't ask how we wanted the eggs, but it would have been too much time and trouble to send it back. I ordered waffles, they looked like frozen ones and were cold and tasteless, the syrup and butter were ice cold so it was not a very appealing meal to say the least. My waffles came when my daughter was half finished her meal.
We were never offered beverage refills, and by the time the server brought a spoon for the coffee it was too late, we used the knife. This restaurant seriously needs a makeover, it is drab and shabby.
No, we will never go back.

Wonderful Southern Style Food
Submitted Monday, June 6, 2011 - 12:42am [Dine in]

I tried this place on the recommendation of my niece, and I was not disappointed. I've been here twice now and both times I loved the meals. The pulled pork sandwich was terrific, the meat was moist and tender with just the right amount of barbeque sauce. I had a combo sandwich with sausage and meat, it was the special of the day.....Mmmmmm it was so good and very filling too. I found the ribs to be smoked just right and not dry or stringy, The baked beans were a barbeque style, I liked them and the cornbread was nice and warm, with a good consistency - not at all dry
The restaurant it's self was rather baren and sparse, both times I visited there were only 1 or 2 other people ordering take-out. I would have prefered to have a server take my order rather than ordering at the counter, but the cook/owner was a very pleasant friendly person who didn't mind chatting about his cooking methods and food preparation. He obliged us with tastes of the brisket, which was very much appreciated.
I would go back again, maybe in the summer to sit on the patio - it looks like it would be nice.

Great Place for Pasta
Submitted Sunday, May 29, 2011 - 11:28pm [Dine in]

I always enjoy the pasta dishes here; the lasagna is a good choice, but then again the fettucine alfredo with shrimp is another I like. All the meals have been delicious, I can't think of anything I haven't liked. The iced tea is fabulous, all frothy and icy.....mmmmm I really like the snack size meals, especially the calamari.

The Most Delicious Sweet & Sour Sauce!
Submitted Sunday, May 29, 2011 - 11:05am [Dine in]

I'd heard this restaurant was under new management so we decided to give it a try...........I'm sure glad we did! The owner; David was polite, friendly, very proficient and a wonderful chef. He does all the cooking himself, and his skills really shine in the quality of food he produces,
Although the decor needs to be updated, the meal definately made up for it!

The food was fabulous, especially the sweet and sour sauce, we had the Sweet and Sour Pork with Pineapple, it was nice and thick and had a dark red appearance, not like some thin traslucent ones. The flavour was fantastic, I could have it on everything!!
Other dishes we tried were also very delicious; Beef & Broccoli with Black Bean Sauce (homemade, not from a bottle), Honey Garlic Boneless Pork (this sauce was sticky, sweet and addictive), Spicy Ginger Beef - very crispy with just the right amount of heat, Prawns in Creamy Butter Sauce and the Lemon Chicken......Mmmmm this sauce was perfect. We also had standard chinese fare: stir fried veggies, fried rice and chow mein.

The price was acceptable for 6 people, about $22.00 per person including tea and soft drinks.
I highly reccomend The Orient, it is only a short drive to Cultus Lake from Chilliwack and absolutely worth it.
Had this restaurant been in a more central location I know it would be hard to get a seat a meal times!
David will pack everything to go for take out too, so you can call ahead and it will be ready when you get there.

So........take a drive to Cultus and enjoy some delicious Chinese Food.

Good Breakfast
Submitted Saturday, February 26, 2011 - 6:06pm [Dine in]

My Daughter and I went here for breakfast, there was no wait. We were seated, given menus and served our beverages of choice right away. The meals were plentiful and tasty. I had an "lite" omelet (the works) with toast and nice crispy hashbrowns. My daughter had the Waffle Big Breakfast. Everything was prepared well and served promptly. Our server was friendly and topped up our beverages often.
We will come back again, there is no doubt.

Not What I Expected
Submitted Friday, December 10, 2010 - 11:02am [Dine in]

We phoned in the afternoon for a reservation and left a voicemail. Tried again later still no one answered. Received a call at 5:04pm saying we had a reservation for 5:10pm!! We were in the parking lot when we got the call!! I should have know where this was going.

After trekking up a long flight of stairs we were taken to a booth near a loud group of red hat women, at our request to be seated further away we were given another booth only 2 away from them. We were left seated without menus for about 10 minutes, no one approached for drink orders. When the server finally appeared she was friendly but distracted. The service was slow and not very personal, she never introduced herself.
Our tea was served tepid and the teapots didn't hold enough water to fill the mugs. It took forever for her to return, but after we received the food the staff stopped by so often it became quite annoying. The server said we had a choice between rice and potatoes, but when we ordered this was somehow forgotten - we were served the potatoes.

We ordered from the 'feature' sheet; Vienna schnitzel with Lobster bake and Bavaria schnitzel topped with hollandaise, crab & shrimp. The meals came with goulash soup & garlic toast - the soup was salty and tasteless. The server said it was a ground beef / tomato base with vegetables, I had 1 or 2 tiny bits of beef (?) in my bowl and no vegetables at all. The schnitzels were breaded pork, cooked nicely, they came with roasted potatoes and cooked red cabbage. The main course was tasty but not good enough to warrant a second visit.

As for the red hat women, they were loud and boorish - shouting constantly, and performing loud ear-piercing whistles, it was too bad the staff didn't take a stand and ask them to tone it down.
My experince at the Bavaria Restaurant was not great, I would not recommend it and I will not return.

Good Lunch
Submitted Sunday, November 28, 2010 - 11:41pm [Dine in]

3 of us went for a late lunch, the burgers were homemade and served on french bread, they were excellent.
The beef dip was very tasty and the au jus was thicker than usual but very flavorful. Not too many folks there at the time, the service was very good, no complaints. Limited dessert menu, but who needed dessert after that big meal?

Fabulous Dinner
Submitted Friday, October 8, 2010 - 12:06am [Dine in]

Four of us went here for dinner on Tuesday October 5th, we were the only customers for quite a while. Although the restaurant is in an out of the way location, it is very "downtown Vancouver" as far as service and food quality. I found the decor simple but tasteful, it made for a pleasant atmosphere.
The server was attentive, very professional and had a sense of humour. Three of us ordered the same dinner; the chef's special: Salmon with prawns, mashed potatoes and vegetables. It was by far the best salmon dinner we had all eaten in a long time. My daughter; who is not a seafood person, had the peppercorn steak, she said it was cooked just right and tasted delicious. When the chef came around to ask how we were enjoying the meal my daughter said she liked the potatoes the best, the chef then sent out another serving of mashed potatoes for her. This ws very generous and much appreciated.
We splurged on desserts; with pecan pie and creme caramel. They were decadent and very delicious.

All in all we were very impressed and pleased with the meals and service. We will return again when in the city.

Excellent Dinner
Submitted Saturday, August 21, 2010 - 11:18pm [Dine in]

I have been here twice now, and I have been impressed each time with the quality and quantity of the food.
The entrees are served in little copper bowls over a candle heated warmer. I love the fact that your food stays warm, and that there is enough for second helpings or lunch the next day.
Veggie Pakoras made a great appetizer, we ate them up pretty quickly.
We had the Butter Chicken and Chicken Saag each with the Rice Pilau - both were delicious with just the right amount of heat for each of us. We also had Garlic Naan, it was perfect for sopping up the sauce. With 1 soft drink and no dessert our bill was about $40.00.
It is a small venue but with traditional Indian decor it added nicely to the ambiance. It was softly lit and the music was contemporary, not too loud or annoying. The server was pleasant, friendly and attentive.
I will come again and perhaps try out something from the seafood menu.

Beautiful View
Submitted Wednesday, September 30, 2009 - 5:40pm [Dine in]

I was here for lunch Sept. 25/09, we opted to sit on the patio, the day was warm and sunny so the view was fantastic. The food was the same as the other Boathouse locations, I always enjoy the coconut shrimp...Mmmmm
The service thought was atrocious, it took forever for our orders to be taken, and our server only came by once, she didn't refill our beverages - even when asked twice she finally brought them after we finished eating!
One server doesn't dampen my opinion of the Boathouse, I still enjoyed the food and ambiance.

Nice Lunch
Submitted Thursday, June 25, 2009 - 1:22pm [Dine in]

We had a nice lunch here. The chicken breast was very moist and tender, the side dishes were fine. I think there could have been a little more barbeque sauce on the chicken for my liking, but it was very delicious.

Since there were only a couple of tables occupied we were seated right away, and served drinks quickly. The server did not, though, come back to offer more drinks during the meal. Another woman came to ask how we liked the meal, and proceeded to take away used dishes. I didn't like this, I would have preferred to have the dises removed at the end of the meal instead.

We were offered tea/coffee and dessert, but did not partake as all the desserts were way too high fat, and selection was very limited.
I liked the decor, it was clean and simple, no carpet or draped to collect dust.
The out door patio is a nice idea, but I wouldn't want to sit at a wooden picnic table. It was raining so it looked dreary. Nice glass tables and umbrellas would be more inviting.
Overall it was nice, the food was good and I think I'll try it for dinner some time.

A tasty experience
Submitted Tuesday, February 10, 2009 - 12:37am [Dine in]

We came on the advice of my co-worker; Sarah, who said the pasta was delicious and the servings were huge.

It was not too busy at 2pm on Monday, we were seated right away by the window. The decor was tasteful and the tables well spaced.
Our server was friendly, pleasant and very attentive. Even after it started getting busy she was by frequently to see if we needed anything.

We shared the foccacia, it was light and crispy, just right for oil/balsamic dipping. The pasta was really delicious. We had Penne Antonio and Conchiglie Frutti di Mare. Yes, the servings were hearty and large.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and had no room for dessert.
Our plates were cleared away promptly and our leftovers packaged up quickly and neatly wrapped with plastic bags.
We will return for another lunch or maybe dinner.

The sandwich was very tasty and the fries were crispy, not at all greasy. Our server was very friendly and cheery, which made the visit more pleasant. We had no complaints.
