Italian but not that great
Submitted Wednesday, April 15, 2015 - 5:37pm [Dine in]

First time trying this restaurant. Chilliwack lacks "good" Italian food. We were quickly greeted and seated. Nice and clean but tables are very close together, the guy behind me could nearly rub elbows with me.
Had a bottle of wine, that was nice and the fact that the server reminded us we could take the leftover bit home.

Appetizers were okay - caesar salad and lentil leek soup, nothing special here.
I had the tortellini alfredo; it was very salty and the sauce was very watery.
My compainion had Sal's special - fettucine noodles with steak slices on top; not well received, steak was not done to her liking and the sauce was too meaty and not flavourful.

Overall we were not impressed with the meals. Will not be returning and don't recommend!

Not Impressed with the Food
Submitted Sunday, July 20, 2014 - 11:27pm [Take-out]

We ordered take out and when we got home we discovered how terrible the food was!
The fettuccine Alfredo with baked cheese was tasteless, just a blob of white goo. It was the worst I've ever eaten, Lean Cuisine would have tasted better!
The Pesto Chicken Penne was also flavorless and unappetizing, the chicken didn't look burned, but it tasted like it!
I emailed Boston Pizza, the manager got in touch with me and upon return of the uneaten food we were given a full refund! Not going back anytime soon!

Pho Galaxy45863 West Yale Rd, Chilliwack
Best Pho in Chilliwack
Submitted Thursday, October 17, 2013 - 10:19am [Dine in]

I was very impressed with the Pho at the Galaxy. The broth is delicious and so flavourful. The chicken with black bean sauce on chow mein was excellent. I love the salad rolls too, the peanut sauce really gives them the flavor they need. Grilled chicken on rice was tasty, the chicken was moist and plentiful.
The restaurant is small, but if you are willing to share a table your wait won't be so long. I found the tables clean and well maintained. Forks are available for those not so adept with chopsticks :)
Prices are reasonable and the servings very generous.
The owner is accommodating and spends time with customers - nice to see.
I recommend the Pho Galaxy - if you don't know what to order try the Pho #2 or #3 chicken you won't be sorry.

Best Chinese Food in the Valley
Submitted Thursday, August 1, 2013 - 11:59am [Dine in]

I came her first for dim sum; which by the way was excellent. Came back for dinner service and was not disappointed, the food is tasty, well prepared and served by friendly staff.
The deep fried wontons are crispy and light, the dipping sauce is thick and delicious.
I haven't tried any soups yet - maybe in the winter.
The lemon chicken is tender and not at all bland. Their sweet & sour sauce is very good, not thin and runny like some places. I love the beef dishes because the meat is thinly cut and very tender, especially good with black bean sauce. Since I hate peas in rice they make a "plain" fried rice with green beans instead of peas, I love it!
Nice that they will customize dishes for those with allergies or dislikes.
Always enjoy the meals, lots to take home and the service is outstanding.
Beats all the Chinese restaurants in Chilliwack or Abbotsford!

Nice place, service so so

Went here Valentine's day with my Mom and Daughter.
We were seated without a reservation, nice booth. The restaurant was clean and modern. Our servers were friendly and polite, but lacking in paying attention, she thereforee missed the fact that 2 items were missing from the order. Once we flagged her down and told her, she said she'd be right back with them. She didn't return till the other server had already boxed up our leftovers. Poor service.
The food was good, but lacking what we expected. This is a chain restaurant, I guess I was looking for something more - everything was carbon copy, no personal touches.
We had the yam fries and chicken lettuce wrap to start, they were both good, but the sauce for the lettuce wrap was a tad spicy. I had the fettucine alfredo, goos but it just didn't make the grade for an excelent rating. My mom and daughter each had a steak, which they both enjoyed. The deep fried mashed potatoes were unique but a little bad because of the deep frying.
Would we come back? Maybe but it was rather pricy.
The $5.00 valet was nice, they vacuumed my car too, gave him a nice tip.

Went here for a birthday party - first time for most of us. We were seated in a quiet area which was nice. Not fancy but a nice ambiance. Waiter was a bit harried but he was on his own with a large group, so I'd say he did his best. We started with the Classic Caesar with lemon parmesan croutons; it was alright but not the best I've ever had, the lettuce was not dried enough so it was wet and the dressing didn't stick to it well.

IFor an entee I had the Wild Salmon on Crab potato mash & Lobster sauce, the salmon was cooked to perfection, I could have had a bit more potatoes and more veggies would have been nice - just served 2 asparagus spears. I did not like that the meal was served in a bowl, it was awkward to eat it properly.
My daughter had the Penne with Chicken in a fresh basil pesto and said it was very tasty. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals. I'd say a bit pricey for the size of the meal, but well prepared.
Didn't have any desserts - we had a birthday cake.
I'd like to come back with just a couple of friends and try some of the other menu items.

Not bad ribs but..............
Submitted Monday, October 15, 2012 - 12:15am [Dine in]

Arrived about 3pm on Sunday, not too many patrons. TV was a bit too loud (NFL game). Ambiance was okay, nothing special. Our server seemed a bit uninterested and brusque at first, but then she warmed up and was quite friendly.
We started with the chicken wings with the sweet rub - they were delicious, crispy coating with soft tender meat, the rub was sweet but......hmmm not sure of the other flavours, we enjoyed them fully anyhow. Then we had the St Louis style ribs, they were meaty and tender, but the sauce was just too ordinary, a tomato based sauce that was not too flavourful, it needed something more to give it a kick. I had 2 sides; potato wedges and sauteed veggies - they were tasty. My companion had the baked beans and yam fries; neither of which she cared for too well.
Over all a pretty good meal, we passed on dessert.

Went here for dinner, and was pleasantly surprised that it was tastefully decorated more modern than most chinese restaurants. We were seated quickly and brought tea right away. I was impressed with the service from the wait staff, they were attentive and prompt. We had Shredded chicken with crispy noodles, honey garlic beef and stir fried veggies. The food was hot, well prepared and very delicious. I will come here again for sure.

We Enjoyed the Experience
Submitted Sunday, June 10, 2012 - 1:07pm [Dine in]

I had not been here for many years, but decided to take friends from out of town to sample the view of Vancouver from the magnificent height. There were 6 in our party (2 kids). We started with deep fried calamari, smoked salmon and crab coquette, caesar salad and stuffed mushroom caps. The appetizers arrived quickly and were hot and delicious (except the salad of course). For entrees the kids had meat lasagna and tuscana chicken. We had the spaghetti carbonara, 2 new york steaks; one med-well and the other rare, and I had the chef's special - asian duck. We were all pleased with the quality and taste of our meals, the only negative thing would be that the entrees came with very little - we had thin shoestring bits of carrot, zucchini and peppers. The starch portion was a small square of thinly sliced potatoes topped with also thinly sliced carrots, now this was very delicious but we could have had a bit larger portion because what we received was only about 3" x 3".
Our server was Irene, she was pleasant and very attentive yet not intrusive. She was right there when we had an accident with a drink and she replaced it immediately. We didn't feel rushed at all by our server.
The view was fantastic, we had a nice table by the window and enjoyed 3 revolutions during our time there.

I was not too happy with the women's restrooms; it was very crapmed with hardly enough room to turn around, the floor was sticky, there were no paper towels and it was too odiferous to linger long enough to use the hot air hand dryer.

I am not in favour of restaurants that automatically add in the gratuity - this was a surprise to me.
I had checked out the restaurants website before hand and it didn't mention this.
Here is all that is printed on their site: Minimum one Entrée per person. Taxes and gratuities are not included. Items and prices are subject to change without notice.
For the 6 of us; 4 appetizers, 6 entrees, 1 beer and 5 soft drinks and no dessert it was > $400.00

Will I return? Maybe, but not for a few years, it will take me a while to pay off the bill. (LOL)

Submitted Monday, June 4, 2012 - 9:56am [Dine in]

We went for dinner on a Sunday night, it was not too busy so we were seated right away. The waitstaff were very attentive and not too bothersome. The decor is modern and very comfortable. The music was a little loud but it was not unpleasant. I started with crab cakes, they were very tasty. For dinner I had the short ribs, they were fall off the bone delicious, it was accompanied by mashed potatoes and broccoli rabe. My companion had a salad that was like no other; lettuces with strawberries, blueberries and raspberries, it was served with a sweet raspberry vinagrette - very nice salad but big enough to share! She then had the steak, which was prepared exactly to her liking and was also served with mashed potatoes and broccoli rabe.
We didn't have dessert, but the meal was enough in itself. I will come back when the weather is nicer and we can sit on the patio.

Best Calamari
Submitted Saturday, April 7, 2012 - 9:23pm [Dine in]

We happened upon this restaurant and it was a good thing. The place was nearly deserted when we arrived, but it was a bit early. We started with the calamari and it was the best I have ever had, the breading was crispy and light not the usual heavy batter. It was delicious crispy and served with a non descript tasting dip. My daughter had the Lasagna, it was hot & bubbly with tons of melted gooey cheese. I had the roasted lamb shoulder, it was tender and flavourful, it came with a very nice rice, potatoes and carrots.

The decor was simple and not overdone like some Greek restaurants, nice tables without tablecloths which was nice because they were very shiny and clean.
The service was prompt and the server was really friendly and polite. The washroom was clean and tidy.
I will return when I'm in this area again.

Everything was fresh and tated delicious. I was served tea, and it was topped up a few times while I ate.
The server was very polite and attentive. Ambiance was good, soft music and not too loud.

Not the Earl's I remember
Submitted Sunday, March 18, 2012 - 12:18am [Dine in]

I have not been to Earls for ages, but went with co-workers last week. I was not too impressed. The food was passible, I had a Grilled Chicken and Baked Brie Ciabatta grilled chicken, melted brie, roasted apples, spinach, sweet fig jam, garlic mayonnaise, house baked ciabatta. It came with a salad that had seen it's best before date long before it was served to me! We were surprised to see that when the server said it would be deducted from the bill, only fifty cents was taken off! I did not like that the servers all wore skimpy black attire and stilleto heels, it was not suitable for a restaurant, maybe a nightclub. I thought the prices were too high for the amount and quality of the food. I also felt the service was just too impersonal.
No wonder I hadn't been to Earls for years, it will be many more before I voluntarily return.

Conditions have deteriorated
Submitted Saturday, March 17, 2012 - 11:59pm [Dine in]

I haven't been to Ikea for a while and I have to say I was shocked to see how poorly the cafeteria is run.
The food was fine and a good value, it was the uncleanliness I was not happy about. There used to be areas with racks to place used dishes, but now there are only a few racks against a wall, they were all full and even the counters were covered with used trays and dishes. This was awful, there was no place to put the trays, we had to just pile them onto other ones. I also didn't like that the beverage areas were not kept clean. There was spilled coffee, pop and milk all over, some was dried on so obviously it hadn't been cleaned in quite some time. The dispensers were dirty and most were empty.
This is disgraceful, it used to be so clean and well kept.

I will never dine here again
Submitted Tuesday, February 21, 2012 - 8:35pm [Dine in]

This was not a good choice for Chinese food. Okay the place looked neat and clean, but as for the food forget it. I was not impressed at all, on a 1-10 scale (10 being the best) I rate it 2.5 - 3.
We ordered Spring egg rolls, they were fine but the sauce was a rather odd yellowish colour and there was only a scant amount in the serving dish for 2 of us to share.
The Honey garlic chicken wings were the biggest wings I've ever seen, really did they come from super-sized chickens or chickens on steroids? They were marginally passable, deep fried with some sort of bottled sauce poured over top.
The pan fried rice noodles with beef in black bean sauce was not at all to our liking, the noodles were over-cooked, cut into little pieces and were soggy. The beef was okay but not very flavourful.
Breaded boneless chicken with tangy lemon sauce, well the amount of chicken under the thick breading was miniscule, and I doubt any real lemons were invloved in the preparation of the bland sauce.
Cashew nut sauteed diced vegetables - okay the veggies & the cashews were crispy but the sauce was tasteless and the mushrooms were too large to eat in 1 bite.
Pineapple sweet & sour boneless pork: Tough meat, over cooked and the sauce was thin and vinegary, I did not like the taste at all. One of the worst sweet & sour sauces I've ever tasted.
When the server asked how we liked the food and we were honest, I could tell she was offended, but really!
Well, if you ask a question and are not prepared for the answer maybe customer service is not the best job for you. She quickly turned and walked away rudely, we stated the food was not to the standard of our usual/favourite place and she made a snide remark also. The other servers were not so rude, just one.

So this is not the place to go if you want good Chinese food in Abbotsford.

Always Great Food
Submitted Saturday, January 28, 2012 - 1:04pm [Dine in]

I can't believe I haven't rated Coza before. We often go here when we visit Langley.
The food is high quality, delicious and piping hot. We started with the Italian salad, which was crispy and very fresh. I had the Pasta Al Pesto, it was rich and creamy with tender pieces of chicken. My Mom had Chichen Reggiano with linguine alfredo. That's the nice thing about Coza, they will add, delete or sub anything you want to make your meal to your liking. We asked for virgin cocktails - watermelon lemonade (I think) and it was so delicious we had seconds. The ambiance is very old world Italian charm, and the staff very attentive, friendly and polite. Our server was Josh, he took care of us as if there were no other customers. I enjoy Coza's well prepared and tasty food, the quiet ambiance and great service.
It sure beats the frachised places that serve cardboard cut-outs that never look or taste different.

Not Worth a Second Visit
Submitted Saturday, January 28, 2012 - 12:45pm [Dine in]

Visiting Clark's was a mistake. It took forever to get a seat, menus and service. The service was slow and incompetent, the server walked around with plates of food, not knowing who he was to serve them to.
Now the food, that was not worth the money. The "Bowl" is a dish that combines potatoes & meats with eggs on top, the eggs came as fried over easy, the server didn't ask how we wanted the eggs, but it would have been too much time and trouble to send it back. I ordered waffles, they looked like frozen ones and were cold and tasteless, the syrup and butter were ice cold so it was not a very appealing meal to say the least. My waffles came when my daughter was half finished her meal.
We were never offered beverage refills, and by the time the server brought a spoon for the coffee it was too late, we used the knife. This restaurant seriously needs a makeover, it is drab and shabby.
No, we will never go back.

Wonderful Southern Style Food
Submitted Monday, June 6, 2011 - 12:42am [Dine in]

I tried this place on the recommendation of my niece, and I was not disappointed. I've been here twice now and both times I loved the meals. The pulled pork sandwich was terrific, the meat was moist and tender with just the right amount of barbeque sauce. I had a combo sandwich with sausage and meat, it was the special of the day.....Mmmmmm it was so good and very filling too. I found the ribs to be smoked just right and not dry or stringy, The baked beans were a barbeque style, I liked them and the cornbread was nice and warm, with a good consistency - not at all dry
The restaurant it's self was rather baren and sparse, both times I visited there were only 1 or 2 other people ordering take-out. I would have prefered to have a server take my order rather than ordering at the counter, but the cook/owner was a very pleasant friendly person who didn't mind chatting about his cooking methods and food preparation. He obliged us with tastes of the brisket, which was very much appreciated.
I would go back again, maybe in the summer to sit on the patio - it looks like it would be nice.

The Most Delicious Sweet & Sour Sauce!
Submitted Sunday, May 29, 2011 - 11:05am [Dine in]

I'd heard this restaurant was under new management so we decided to give it a try...........I'm sure glad we did! The owner; David was polite, friendly, very proficient and a wonderful chef. He does all the cooking himself, and his skills really shine in the quality of food he produces,
Although the decor needs to be updated, the meal definately made up for it!

The food was fabulous, especially the sweet and sour sauce, we had the Sweet and Sour Pork with Pineapple, it was nice and thick and had a dark red appearance, not like some thin traslucent ones. The flavour was fantastic, I could have it on everything!!
Other dishes we tried were also very delicious; Beef & Broccoli with Black Bean Sauce (homemade, not from a bottle), Honey Garlic Boneless Pork (this sauce was sticky, sweet and addictive), Spicy Ginger Beef - very crispy with just the right amount of heat, Prawns in Creamy Butter Sauce and the Lemon Chicken......Mmmmm this sauce was perfect. We also had standard chinese fare: stir fried veggies, fried rice and chow mein.

The price was acceptable for 6 people, about $22.00 per person including tea and soft drinks.
I highly reccomend The Orient, it is only a short drive to Cultus Lake from Chilliwack and absolutely worth it.
Had this restaurant been in a more central location I know it would be hard to get a seat a meal times!
David will pack everything to go for take out too, so you can call ahead and it will be ready when you get there.

So........take a drive to Cultus and enjoy some delicious Chinese Food.
