Mongo Bongo512B 6th Avenue, New Westminster
Wasn't bad, wasn't great.

Decided to try Mongo Bongo for the first time and it was alright to say the least. Service is kinda weird, you put your name on a sticky note and cling it to your bowl so after the cook is finished the server then takes the bowl and walks around the place calling your name, there are better technologies than this, seeing as the waiter will come to your table and say a name like Jen? then you say no bob, and they say sorry and go to the next table and ask a name. The appies were kinda costco style a bit over deep fried. the ambience is great, I like it anyway, they show sports and what ever on the big screen and have music playing at the same time but not loud or anything. You pay for your bowl 10 bucks and fill it as much as you can. the food bar can be a little deceiving as you have the person behind you waiting to fill your bowl and you can't feel quite relaxed while you do it, but you can allways let them ahead of you, it just means you wait longer for your meal. all and all, probably won't go back any time soon, not because it wasn't o.k just have had better tasting for the same price, but hey if i'm hungry and wanna watch the game, have a beer and some food and am in the area i may pop in again.
thank you for my experience.

Golden Great Wall Szechuan Restaurant705 West Broadway, Vancouver
won't be returning
Submitted Friday, December 31, 2010 - 8:29am [Dine in]

Came here with a friend cause I was craving some good Szechuan. When we arrived the place had about four people in it, so I thought nice and quiet. The waitress barely even noticed us, but when she did she sat us right away. After that it took about 15 mins before we were greeted again and handed menu's. I was hoping for appies but time was short and the waitress took a little to long, so we ordered our entree;s right away with beverages. The food took about 45 mins to arrive and we on a couple of occasions had to get up and go to them to ask for more drinks because know one was checking on us.
When the food came is was to salty to eat and the portions were small, I think we drank three pitchers of water before our meal was done.
For the price I paid, the really slow service and the amount of M.S.G I swallowed i will not return. thank you for my experience at your restaurant.

Not bad overall

Went to this place for dinner, loved the prawn tempura, yam tempura was slightly undercooked, but overall is was good. The service was really nice, they do take care of you. I would say as far as ambience, I think I would change the music, really loud pop music that doesn't really suit the place and vibe. My suggestion, make your Yam tempura bigger and better, and change the music to a more relaxing feel.

Yuk, don't eat here, and there coffee isn't good either.

Wow how could you possibly get a sandwich and coffee all wrong. Whatever you do , don't eat here, dry, stale, no sauce, the size of your palm and really old tasting meat, the barista's have no clue how to make a latte or americano, not hard people, I suggest you learn on you tube. The place is really nice, but thats it. Had an Americano or canadiano - tasted like hot water and food colouring, my suggestion is stop bringing in frozen wraps and panini's and start doing them yourself, oh and the muffin tasted like it sat there for 2 weeks, one bite tossed it in the garbage, come on guys your a coffee shop, muffins and coffee should be delicious not stomache wrenching, thanks but no thanks, you shouldn't serve that food, someone might get sick.

Hideout Cafe716 Carnarvon St, New Westminster
Awesome place
Submitted Friday, November 5, 2010 - 4:10pm [Dine in]

Came to New Westminster for a meeting and was told to try the hide out cafe for lunch, man that was the best wrap I ever had and the soup was genuis, I had the black bean baja wrap that was grilled to perfection, and the authentic Irish stew made with real lamb anf guiness the way it should be, wow. I like to eat out alot and nothing in the lower mainland tastes this good. I talked to chef about his soups and he does them all from scratch with no msg's (great to know) and his own stocks, not packaged stuff,, the baja was something else, I'm really surprised their not more expensive for what you get, the wraps weigh like a pound and they are filling, I may have the half combo next time cause i was full, wish they were downtown i would be there every day.
I love the ambience too, its not over zealous and trying to look rich, just some good people giving you a place to eat and rustic looking, beautiful floor by the way. I will bring my friends next time for sure. thanks.
