Sunny Spot Cafe2543 Main Street, Vancouver
Jesus!
Submitted Friday, September 5, 2008 - 2:18pm [Dine in]

So, I used to go the sunny spot for the omelets which for a while were always good. The other day I went in with my girlfriend and I was completely shocked at how crappy our food was!

My "Omelet" was full of raw egg and my "hashbrowns" were a cornucopia of shredded hashbrowns, old sliced hashbrowns and yesterday's leftover, slimy scalloped potatoes (no joke!). It was completely disgusting.

My girlfriend had the clubhouse with fries and the french fries were obviously sitting around for a while and then re-fried when we got there! I will never go back there as long as I live. Complete garbage.

Samurai Sushi on Fraser6428 Fraser Street, Vancouver
Giant portions
Submitted Tuesday, September 2, 2008 - 1:03am [Dine in]

The house roll at samurai is HUGE and delicious. I personally love the extra mayo on the California rolls although I know that it's not everybody's forte but I think they're extremely creamy and rich. Don't think that you should compare this place to an upperscale sushi restaurant because it isn't, but, it is great for what it is. Also the sushi chefs are a great bunch of guys who always say hi and goodbye even though they're behind the counter.

Helen's Grill & Restaurant4102 Main, Vancouver
Can't do potatoes
Submitted Tuesday, September 2, 2008 - 12:57am [Dine in]

My girlfriend and I have been on the Vancouver diner tour for the last 3 months or so. The last 4 diner dates have been at Helen's grill, mostly because of the jukebox at your table. It doesn't matter what format the potatoes come to you in (whether it be fries or hash browns) they're never done right. The hash browns are ALWAYS either extremely old, sitting on the grill for waaay too long, or intensely powdery and inedible. And the french fries have been re-fried, hopefully not left over from someone else's lunch. This is all really too bad because the omelets are good and the sausage and eggs are a good value. Also, be careful how many quarters you put in the jukebox because not all of your songs will be played.
