Ouch!

I was told about Big City Cupcakes by a friend and decided to check it out for myself. I was surprised to see this large store without a oven in sight. The cupcakes are trucked in from Burnaby daily. The flavor list looked impressive as was the packaging complete with a ribbon. I chose four cupcakes and was shocked at the $16.00+ bill. No deals for buying larger quantities. I split the cupcake "gold" into four pieces so we could all try them. I am a baker by trade and can make a good cupcake. These tasted mediocre at best. The cake portion lacked flavor and moisture. The icing was decent, maybe a bit sweet. I would never ever go back for these over priced cupcakes.

Beautiful place

We went to the Buffalo club to check it out before catching a movie. The restaurant is gorgeous and a welcome sight in Maple Ridge where you are hard pressed to find many classy places. The appies were delicious and quite inventive. I enjoyed a spring roll filled with mashed potato and chives. The prices are what you would expect in a restaurant similar to Milestones or Earls. I would definitely go back to try a full dinner or have drinks with the girls after work.

Leave well enough alone

My husband and I used to really enjoy picking up dinner and lunch at Habanero's. We were sad to see it closed since Christmas and were excited for a re opening. The food was so superior to Taco Del Mar. When it finally opened, we headed out to see what changes had been made. Esthetically the restaurant has lost it's casual charm. It would have been easier to change out a few chairs to spruce up the place, no need to make it look worse by trying to make it appear like a gourmet restaurant. The menu was sparse, gone were the reasons we used to Love Habaneros. Including the fresh salsa bar. Our food took so long that the server let us know the meal was on the house. This was nice considering we hadn't complained yet. The food was practically inedible. Our appies arrived with our dinner and were obviously deepfried frozen food. The meat was so over fried that it turned that dark crunchy texture that burnt meat gets. We were so completely disappointed with everything. And will never be back.
