Great dining experience!

A wonderful hideaway for something different. Great ambiance -- walls are covered in carpets, candles everywhere, ethnic pillows and wood tables and stools. They make great drinks! I had the Ragoon Rain yogurt shake and it was one of the best shakes i've ever had. We ordered 2 entrees - one with chicken and chickpeas, the other with lamb and eggplant. They come with salad, rice, a little dish of soup, and roti bread. Entrees are $15 which is a decent price considering you're getting a plate full of different samples, and we were so full by the end. Most tables are communal - we shared the table with another couple. Atmosphere is very peaceful, quiet, and ethinic with Indian music playing in the background. Definitely a place worth trying!

Wonderful place for dinner. Came here on a date with my dad. We ordered 2 appetizers -- portobello tart and organic mushrooms, both were superb. For entrees we had the salmon on chowder and duck breast on pasta, both were very tasty and portions are decent. For dessert we shared chocolate fondant with banana icecream and peanut butter sauce -- to die for! Food was organic, very fresh, very tasty, and very nicely prepared. Service was good. The only thing I wonder about is why the bill doesn't come in a billfold - it was by itself. It is a little expensive, but it's a great place to come once in a while because the food is worth it! They have parking in the back.

Came here for a birthday dinner with the family. We ordered crab cakes, french onion soup, duck salad, cream of asparagus soup (soup du jour), mussels as an entree, halibut with mushroom and asparagus risotto, and 8oz steak. As always, food was delicious and prepared very nicely. Staff are very well-mannered, knowledgable, and attentive. Wonderful ambiance -- very warm and friendly for a fine dining restaurant. They also serve brunch and lunch, so we'll be back to try that out! This place is superb!

Great fresh simple French food!

Came here with a girlfriend for dinner. It was full inside so we sat outside in the foyer area, but it was still nice and cozy. Servers were very friendly and attentive. Ambiance had a great French feel to it -- tall candles, French menus are wooden slates and water comes in a glass jar. We shared the fish in lemon and butter, and their daily special Tiger prawns. Both came with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables, all were very fresh. For dessert we shared the sorbet which was tasty. Very decent prices for good quality and good portions. I'd definitely return!

Been here several times. Food is always so good, no matter which dish you order. My favourites are the Roti canai, Char kuay teow, Sambal bunchies, nasi goreng, tahu goreng, and the pineapple fried rice. Love the fresh young cooconut drink but pretty pricey ($5+). Service is decent -- our server didn't really talk much and wasn't too friendly. Ambiance is good. I'd definitely return for the food!

Is this a Chinese restaurant??
Submitted Saturday, October 6, 2007 - 2:58am [Dine in]

Came here for a birthday dinner. Ambiance and design is superb, but perhaps a little too noisy. Food was OK, nice presentation but I felt as if i were in a Chinese restaurant -- flavours are much too oriental, NOT fusion! Having eaten chinese food all my life, i think my mom could prepare almost all the dishes we had, and for 1/4 of the price!! Menu choices are OK... one dish we had was the Wok-seared Beef chunks which was good, but it came with tiny Hickory-Sticks-like crisps, so that was awkward and we didn't eat any of them! How can they expect someone to eat beef without rice and eat chips instead?? much too salty and the textures dont go well. Prices are way too expensive for what you get. Portions are OK, if not on the small side.
Service was poor. Her attitude just got worse as the night went on. Don't know if she was just tired or if it was because we didn't want anymore food nor dessert.
Wouldn't go back if I had the choice... great atmosphere but poor food and poor service. Pity because goldish's management, design and overall marketing package are excellent... a new chef perhaps???

Fresh sushi, great service
Submitted Wednesday, October 3, 2007 - 1:24am [Dine in]

My bf and I who are both sushi lovers decided to check this place out since i got pretty decent ratings. We waited for about 15 minutes, which was fine -- service was good as the chef and both waitresses were so friendly and kept telling us it would be just another few minutes. A nice variety of dishes in their menu. We had the Godzilla roll (deep fried sushi with whole strawberries on the top - too filling and too much sauce), Sunshine roll (very bland and kept falling apart), agedashi tofu which was good, and tobico which was fresh. The chef's wife is one of the servers and she was so friendly and attentive as was the other server. Complimentary mini appetizer and mini dessert, which were nice.

Overall, fresh sushi but you can find it elsewhere, wonderful service, OK atmosphere but a bit squishy, and it was so stuffy in there. I'd go rather go to other sushi places in Kerrisdale or downtown.

Great food, terrible service
Submitted Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 4:01pm [Dine in]

My girlfriend took me here for lunch. I had a panini and steamed milk with vanilla, and she had a ham and cheese croissant, a peanut butter cookie and a green tea. Food was excellent!!!! But the service was just so poor that we wanted to fill out a comment card! To be a fine bakery (which it is itself), the service should be 100 times better. The staff were dressed so casually, and they were eating and chatting with each other, right infront of the customers! They barely even talk to you. No manners whatsoever!
I'd definitely come back for the food -- the peanut butter cookie and panini were some of the best i've tasted. When I left I saw a 'Staff Wanted' sign... Hopefully the service will be better next time...

If it wasn't for the food, I wouldn't come back. Ambiance is decent, design is poor and doesn't go with the type of cuisine - feels like you're at Milestones. However the food was excellent -- sushi rolls are unique and just as good as its partner Kamei Royale. Service was OK and perhaps a little too casual. We ordered about 7 dishes! and finished it all! again, great food!

I dined here on a date with my dad. Good ambiance - quiet enough to have a nice chat. Simply yet elegantly designed. I love the big open window at the front as well as the bar where you can watch the chefs at work. Service was wonderful. I had the risotto - my dad says it was the best he's ever had. A few of the dishes' portions were a little small, but uniquely created. By the end we were too full for dessert. This is a good place for some quality time with friends and family. You might bump into your friends, or your real estate agent - we did.

Came here for my gf's birthday. Food was excellent -- we had the halibut, lobster broth with seafood, and chicken mushroom in cream sauce. Sides are a extra - we had the fries, potato gratin, and couscous - all were very good. Portions are quite big! Service was excellent - despite the noise and bustling, our server was right there everytime. Nice bright lime green walls, comfortable seating. I'd definitely return!

I've been going to Kamei ever since I could remember. With the new renovations this summer, it's even better! Food is always outstanding -- the sushi is great. I always get the Crazy Buster roll (it's not on the menu anymore but they're still able to make it!), Delicious roll, Rapture roll, and all those other special rolls are super good. I always leave room for dessert -- the Icecream Tempura or Coffee jello.
Yum!

I've been here a couple times, and I'm so sad they don't have the Salmon with loster risotto anymore! But the last time I was there I had Prawns with corn risotto which was delicious!! My friend and i were sitting outside on the patio when it suddenly got super windy, and everybody wanted a table back inside. So we moved inside for dessert, but our new server never arrived, so we just paid for the bill (which I had to walk to the server and give it to her myself) and then left. Service isn't as great as the view and food, but I'd recommend the place!

i was here for dinner with a friend. food was great, a bit pricey, but i guess you're paying for the view as well! the calamari for appetizer is amazing! service was good. when it got to around 8pm, the noise level went up and i could barely hear what my friend was saying... so go a little earlier, or sit outside.

i was here for lunch, and it was absolutely delicious. they recently changed their menu, and the food was great. i had the Chef's sampler which consisted of italian chorizo with portobello antipasto, fried banana frittatas with lobster (yum), and some pasta with bacon. it was so tasty!! the place is a little pricey for lunch, but the food is something you'd find at a fine-dining restaurant for that price. the Fruit tea is soooo good. i had to ask how to make it! i'd definitely recommend the place.

I went to Shiru Bay so many times this summer that im sick of it now! i have heard a lot of bad reviews, but it all depends on what you order... i always order the same few items, and they're always very good. the ebi mayo is the best. the negitoro tartare, black cod, beef carpaccio... are so good! service is consistent. i've recommended it to a lot of friends who also love it!
