Indian Chef, Chinese servers, Italian cuisine... WTF
Submitted Saturday, December 15, 2007 - 11:28pm [Dine in]

This is simply the best Italian Cuisine restaurant in all of Richmond. Met the chef and congratulated him on his excellent flavours and cuisine. Evidently he has been trained in Italian in numerous Italian restaurants in this city for over 2 decades and it shows.
All ethnic groups work here and all their services were outstanding. They were all friendly, cheerful, and helpful.
The ambiance is very nice and somewhat romantic. My fiance and I started with the Italian Salad... wow was it fresh and tasty.
She had a cross cultural dish called Penne Bombay which was laden with seafood and just beyond excellent. She claims it was the best curry she's had anywhere in ages. I had the traditional Italian fare of Veal Piccata with Penne pasta marsala which was also excellent. Although desserts looked yummy, we were filled to the top by the excellent meal. Highly recommended. A must try.

Nice Intimate Italiano
Submitted Wednesday, December 12, 2007 - 12:00am [Dine in]

Had dinner here this evening. Very nice for Italian. Better than most for quality, presentation and ambience. This place rivals the place just down the street, just no after dinner band. We had a couple of fetticine dishes and gnocchi dishes. Portions are excellent and the tastes were wonderful. We watched the veal and lamb dishes go by and they looked very well appointed.Service is excellent but not too aggressive. This place was also catering to smaller sized companies Christmas dinners with ease. If you're looking for a nice intimate Italian fare, this is it. You won't be disappointed. Not overpriced either.Recommended, Chef to be complimented.

Big Feed Here, Decent prices.
Submitted Monday, December 10, 2007 - 2:10am [Dine in]

Had dinner here this evening with Mom and Dad, son, daughter and GF and sons. Needed place with large feed to satisfy young 20yr old boys. This place is definitely the ticket. Busier than heck though. I am glad I made the reservation for the 8 of us. We had their set menu with the 8 dishes and comp BBQ Duck, soup, and Jellyfish appys. The selection available is all good with ample variety. The portions are huge and they even served dessert at the end. A full meal ! Nobody goes away with an empty stomach. So if you're hungary, and are looking for reasonable quality chinese, this place did it for our Chinese family. They also serve it piping hot and fast.
Recommended.

Best the Neighbourhood Offers
Submitted Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 12:19am [Dine in]

Had dinner here with GF and son. Today, I realized what good "domestic or local" sashimis are all about. After engaging in real Japanese sushi bars in Richmond, the tastes of fresh and imported fish is quite different. The latter being quite tastier and superiour. I will be the first to admit price is also very reflective of what you get. I had sashimi plate with tuna, hamache, and salmon. They were very fresh and tasted fine. I am not the biggest fan of the farm salmon though. They make a good chicken karagge. My partner & her son had sukiyaki don and some rolls which were just okay when I tasted them. The service here is perhaps a little too quick, more hyper I think, as their order, although the same, came 15 mins apart. It looks as they could slow down and still accomplish the same amount of items and tables attended to.This place is better than most similar venues in the area. Recommended for freshness.

Early Bird Dim Sum
Submitted Saturday, December 1, 2007 - 3:45pm [Dine in]

Went to Neptune Seafood this morning for Early bird dim sum. Live very near there but have never been. Very good quality for 2.50 per standard dim sum item. Well worth it if you're there before 11am.
Food quality and presentation is good, ambience a bit better than most Chinese restaurants. Dumpling skins a bit heavy, but fillings were very good.
Still not the best Dim Sum I have been to. My previous review in Vancouver has a bit better dim sum. Please do not get me wrong, this place is very good - just ordinary though. but it is recommended for visit. After all it's about flavour and taste. I still maintain that the most consistent, best tasting and freshest place is at 59th and Cambie.

Absolutely the Best Sashimi in Richmond
Submitted Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 10:35pm [Dine in]

Usually frequent another excellent sashimi restaurant here in Richmond. Well it has been pushed off the pedestal to number 2.

Sushi Hachi is definitely No.1 in this town. Freshness, taste, variety from Japan takes this venue to the top. We tried their Salmon Kama (sockeye) WOW. the best.

My GF - Dawn Tart and I enjoyed a meal that was exclusively directed by the chef. We asked him to take care of all the dinner for us to enjoy this evening. The Chef's specials were worth every experience.

Turns out this husband/wife team has been in business for many years. He worked at my other fav- Kiyo for more than 5 yrs. Now he and his wife have their own and with constant care, they will remain the BEST SASHIMI IN RICHMOND.

There's a new guy on top tonite.Try this one. A must.

Always Fresh Here
Submitted Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 8:58am [Dine in]

Have dinner here at least 3 times a month. Still one of the best for constant turnover of fresh sashimis. The people who run this place are the kindest folk around. Prices are very reasonable and the quantities are more than enough. I usually enjoy the Charashi with the Miso soup (which comes with). Plenty of sashimi here. Shouldn't be disappointed here. Geared for takeout here too. Satisfactory for eat in. Enjoy.

Best in Town Won Ton Soup
Submitted Tuesday, November 27, 2007 - 12:25pm [Dine in]

Been here a number of times, but I don't come for the Pho as others mention. I feel the absolute best wonton soup served in this town is here. This is exclusively to the SMALL size, not the large. For some reason the flavor and seasoning of the small just has it. The other item here is the Pork Hash. No other vietmanese venue offers it like this. These are perhaps the two best dishes in their catagories in Vanc. Try them , I stop there just for the Wontons.

Been to this place quite a few times. Have always enjoyed the Fish & Chips here. Probably one of the best you will find in Richmond. Food quality is excellent and very fresh. They also serve Indian style foods which is equally delicious and well priced. Definitely a must try when you're out Terra Nova way.

Very Good Quality Tasting Food.
Submitted Sunday, November 25, 2007 - 12:32am [Dine in]

Had Celebration of life dinner here for passing uncle. Chef is one of his friends and he prepared uncle's favourite foods. All food quality was excellent without any shortcomings. Started with simple Chinese appy of roast pork and jelly fish followed by Fish Maw soup. Buddah's feast, fresh crispy skin chicken and honey garlic pork to follow. Then a Gai Lan dish with HUGE shrimps and squid. There was no sparing of quantities and again quality was second to none. Finalized with a steamed fish dish and oranges at the end. A very nice and pleasant typical chinese dinner. Uncle would be very happy man to see all his relatives enjoy their dinner so much. I can say that this restaurant may lack a bit of ambience, but it is Chinese. If its great food you desire, they can prepare it.

Can't Even Keep up with Denny's
Submitted Friday, November 23, 2007 - 12:12am [Dine in]

Dropped in here with GF and son for quick dinner. Well, steak sand didn't get to the table for over 45mins prepared contrary to request. Excuses about computer down and hand written chits were required for cooking staff, thus making it slow. The restaurant wasn't even quarter full and there seemed to be plenty of staff on hand. It seems we were blessed with a rookie who definitely required more training. Slow and cold, overcooked was the description of my dinner. Very disappointed. Denny's can do better. Not recommended.

Better Hot pot choice
Submitted Wednesday, November 21, 2007 - 2:52pm [Dine in]

Was invited by aunt and uncle to attend dinner here with them. There were 2 tables of people. and the restaurant had no trouble accomodating . Hot pot table was very clean and soup flavours were best. All ingredients to go in were of excellent quality. I enjoyed this dinner. Have been to the other "all you can eat" hot pot guys in Richmond. They are not as good as this.

5 star Roast Pork - Best in Town
Submitted Wednesday, November 21, 2007 - 2:44pm [Dine in]

Short , quick review. Since living in Richmond and having opportunity to try so many places, I have to say that BBQ Master is Number 1, Absolutely the best for Roast Crispy Skinned Pork.
None other has this unique and non overpowering flavor. Seasoned perfectly. A meat is definitely 5 star. The eating venue is just your normal Wonton house style.

Have been going to Tomatos since it's beginning in the hood at Cambie. Too bad renos have run them out. They still are one of the best and freshest food venues in Vancouver. On my last visit which was for breakfast, I enjoyed "The Mexican" , always a pleasing egg dish. The Eggs benes are also trememdous. A little harder to get to with parking a bit of a premium but the food is still worth it. A must try.

Excellent Italian Food with the Entertainment
Submitted Sunday, November 18, 2007 - 1:32am [Dine in]

Had dinner here about a month ago and thought this place is worth the mention. Frequent here at least once a year and always exceptional. Always packed. The atmosphere remains the same, always fun and outstanding. As far as the food, I had the veal which was excellent, polenta, veggies all outstanding, pastas looked great and homemade pizzas looked fabulous. Country potatos needed a change of oil... just a bit off. Desserts great as well as wine selection. One of the best Italiano in town. Like many say.. one of the most romantic places. My partner, Dawn Tart agrees totally. A must come here and try, no disappointments here.

Good Dim Sum here.
Submitted Saturday, November 17, 2007 - 5:21pm [Dine in]

Stopped by here for Dim Sum as we were in the neighborhood to stop by the fishing store. International has always been the place to get a better than average dim sum. They still have the best scallop and hargow dumplings which sets them apart from many other places. All other dim sum items we enjoyed were of good food quality. Still have not found a place to say "this is the one and only" in Dim Sum Land yet. There are some close ones. It's a place like this where they assemble a bit different dumpling, that makes them worth mentioning. This is a clean and suitable venue for larger groups as well. Like most Chinese restaurants, decor seems secondary and the place could always use Restaurant Makeover.

Better than other HK styles
Submitted Saturday, November 17, 2007 - 10:11am [Dine in]

Dropped by here last nite for first time. This place has been in my hood but I frequented the other HK Style restaurants. I must say that this one probably tasted the best with more than ample sized proportions. Food tastes great, service was good and the venue is fair for quick feed. Had Minced Beef/parsley Mei Fun Soup. Black Bean Chicken Rice Noodle and Lobster macaroni. All were tasty and not greasy. This venue will probably be the new HKS restaurant for me. Fair prices here as well.

Gourmet Food, No Frills
Submitted Tuesday, November 13, 2007 - 3:16pm [Dine in]

Had parental anniversary here in September. Our first visit and it was just fine. Reviewers were spot on with their description of the food, services and facility. The staff are very low key along with the decor. All of this probably accomodating for the reasonable fair pricing for all the fine food you get. The menu is extensive and has plenty of fine offers of gourmet selections. It's not Lumieres or others but makes challenging offers.
We were informed of French trained,Russion background chefs. Very Fanastic Borscht and crepe selections by the way. Tasty selections and a good place to bring a small crowd. Would visit again. Seasoning and qualiity all excellent. Ambience and cleanlinesss more than satisfactory. Enjoy the big feast (lg portions) here for little prices.

Frequent this spot regularily when in Vancouver for lunch and sometime dinner. Bar none... the best Spicy Roll in all of Vancouver. It's about the taste of this one. Try the Salmon kama as well. Donburi are good but I personally think that the sashimis are there best value and fresh as the turnover here is quite evident. Always recommended here for traditional Japanese. Have been going there for almost over 20 yrs. Best Japanese on the block without "Tojo" prices.

Rated One of the Better One's How True
Submitted Monday, November 12, 2007 - 9:40pm [Dine in]

Went to this classic dim sum restaurant today and enjoyed a very pleasant lunch with my brother and his GF and of course my partner Dawn Tart. All food choices were incredibly cared for and seasoned absolutely correct. Cheers for their XO sauce. Along with the various dumplings anc cakes, we enjoyed a plate of the House Chow Mein. This was decorated with an abundance of seafoods and meats and veggies...just excellent. Ambience is good, and the noise level is not to loud as many other places. Highly recommended for food quality, cleanliness, and service. This restaurant definitely deserves an upper rating. We have tasted some better and some worse, which you will soon hear, but this one is on the recommendation list. Visit here, it's worth it.
