Same consistant place
Submitted Tuesday, May 20, 2008 - 12:12am [Dine in]

Went here for fiancee birthday dinner. She wanted Thai. Almost 30yrs aga this place was started. We enjoyed their cuisine in our youth. Well I can say today in my mid 50's the taste is recallable and very familiar. The consisancy of flavours have remained the same. So too has the selection available. Was very pleased to see this passed onto a younger generation. Was very good and could recommend for another 30 years/

Lately, its been six of us going out and trying different places to dine out at. This Saturday, I picke the Green Basil. What a choice. The flavors were clean, crisp and full of fresh flavors like basil an mint . Among the six of us we also get by with our friend who sports a nut allergy. This place had no problem with this. We must of had about 8=8 different dishes. which were all raved about. Most of all, the flavors were suberb . This is definitley a bback restaurant.

Beautiful surroundings, especially if you're on the window. Food quality is good. Would recommend their salads and their omelletes look like they would be great when made to order like that.Had breakfast/brunch menu for Sunday there. It was just fine and offered plenty of selection. All staff and servers were excellent and all seemed to have care for the establishment. Mom had Seafood Chowder and My brother and I had Eggs Bene with fresh fruit cups. It was excellent. My parter and father had seafood crepes and one other had the all day breakfast. My neice enjoyed a fresh salad. Everyone commented how good theirs was,so I take it that this is a very positive place on the hill. Great for special occasions. .... Probably why I would go there.

Still one of the Best
Submitted Monday, April 28, 2008 - 1:56am [Dine in]

If they haven't changed owner /operators, these guys still make the best Donair in the Lower Mainland. They make other dishes but I have always prefered the donair. I usually get mine with tomatos, onions and satziki sauce. It't just the way they cook the meat and assemble the donair that makes that bit of difference. As far as I have known, they have been there for years. I noticed my review was gone or it is liste under another name.

Best Pizza in a long while
Submitted Sunday, April 27, 2008 - 3:02am [Dine in]

Stopped by this Saturday after one of this guys famous pizzas. His press is so fabulous and they live up to every bit of it.
It' s just a place you go get to go and enjoy in the park or home.
We ordered a medium Vegitarian pizza. (We're not vegitarians)We made no choice execpt vegitarian category this time, just told the chef tp make one up so we would want to come back for another one some day soon. We went over to Garry Point and enjoyed the sunshine weekend and enjoyed our pizza.Well he succeeded quite easily with flavors that are fresh and quality is high end. Definitly the Best Pizza I have ever had in a long while. They have the true Italian flare aand proper crusts.

Just a dash of Engrixh would help
Submitted Sunday, April 6, 2008 - 11:54pm [Dine in]

Tried here on recommendation. A little English would help but by the looks of the cleintelle, it can be asian and get by right now.Very good quality if you enjoy this kind of cuisine. Seems very good, not fatty and had very good value's worth.
Started with a very good Hot & Sour soup.
Had their special cold chicken. A similarity to Hoi Nam with hot mild hot sauce and peanuts. Twice cooked pork, with green onions, quite tasty, beef and steamed broccoli, which was very good and a buddahs feast vegitarian dish with tofu and mushrooms. We completed with an eggplant szechwaun style dish. All was very tasty with no complaints. It looks as if the folks that enjoy that type of food really did. Very good food but not my personal fav. Better than the fancy Big T Malaysion on Hazelbridge and Cambie.. Solid fresh food quality here.

Real Italian Flavor here
Submitted Saturday, March 22, 2008 - 1:14am [Dine in]

Had dinner here tonite and what a treat. As others have said, its the best pasta you will ever have. And how true. My fiance and son had there pastas and I had penne vodka. Yum. the flavor was exquisite. Started with spinich salad, pancetta and tomatos with special balsamic. To die for . One of the finest starters in many moons.
A family place bistro with reasonable pricing and not too fancy a menu, just good tasty, wholesome food. If our owners spent more on decor. menu and ambiance, we probably would have to pay more.
This is by far one of the best Italian bistro restaurants for flavor I have ever been to. This chef knows his Italian!!!

Stopped here for lunch yesterday. Haven't been here in awhile. Just as I left it, the meals are still great. Dawn Tart and I had Hot and Sour soup,... have to say one of the best in town. Tried the pancake with 5 spice beef, hoi sin and green onion...yummy. Had some Xiao Long Bao (steamed) which were also good. (Chen's still best) and finished with Tiawanese cabbage dish. All in all, the lunch was tasty and always worthy of return for pancakes and taiwanese dishes/service is always smiling and friendly.

Went to Lobsterfest last nite at the Boathouse. Haven't been there for a decade, so a very nice treat.
Good Food experience for my fiancee, daughter and friends. We started with Seafood Chowder and Seafood Tacos. Delightfully different and very tasty. Chowder a tad on the salty side but very flavourful.
Well, the mains were excellent. Most of us enjoyed the S & L, of course the drawn butter is so decadent you can feel your arteries caving in. Steaks were done perfectly. My daughter had salmon and prawns and friend enjoyed Halibut wrapped in lobster and other seafoods. All dinners were excellent and topped with various desserts. The Bread pudding dessert was great. Service, Ambiance was just excellent ,we were given an excellent dining experience from the staff. Kudos to them for great evening.

Best Xiao Long Bao
Submitted Sunday, February 24, 2008 - 10:35pm [Dine in]

Stopped here for dinner yesterday. Had their famous Xiao Long Bao (steamed) They were the best, just excellent. Nicely seasoned and cooked to perfection.
Also had Hot and Sour soup, Beef and Broccoli and Chinese pancake filled with beef, gr.onion, wrapped in hoi sin sauce.
All were excellent, especially the Xiao Long Bao. I understand the Shaghai Noodles are good too. Will have to try on next visit.
Worth going back to.

Stopped here for first time for lunch today. Always seen it but had many more places to try. I must say it was tasty. They offered 5 different meat and seafood fillings before the salsa and stuff. They have the rice, beans, sour creme, guacamole and all. Tastes just fine, hot enough and has all those Belles and Times beat hands down. Definitely worth the visit, when you want an alternative from the t burger. Try this one, should be fine.

Feels a bit like having lunch down on the beach or playa in Mexico somewhere.

Stopped for lunch today at Hon's Richmond. Been here before but never wrote review. Just had usual pot stickers (pan fried) and a crispy chow mein with Blk Bean sauce and chicken.
The food tastes okay but I would suggest the pot stickers a bit greasy in order to preserve speed in the kitchen.
Recommended for the once in awhile lunch.

Always Enjoyable Dinner here.
Submitted Thursday, February 7, 2008 - 10:58pm [Dine in]

Had CNY dinner here with relatives. Always very tasty without the MSG to perfection. Started with the delightful Peking Duck skins and pancakes, then Lettuce wrap with the duck and then the duck soup. The whole dish (3) was superb. Crab was also on our menu. It was flavoured perfectly. On to the delicate and tasty snap peas with fish filet. Awesome. Crispy skinned chicken, Champagne pork, Buddah's feast, Spinich/Tofu, Fried Rice and a few others made the dinner plentyful and filling with the Mango pudding at the end
We go to this restaurant once or twice a year as it does accomodate larger groups and have never been disappointed with quality or quantity. Always recommended. Nice to see no smokers INSIDE the premised this time.

Went here with fiance's family for "new years" Had regular carbo dishes such as chow mein, various vegies, S&S pork chop, chow fun, deep fried this and that. Flavours are traditional chinese, found at any or most of the Chinese restaurants. Nothing outstanding, but nothing offensive either. Quality is acceptable and they can handle some larger groups. Not my first place to return.

Consistant steamed buns. Good Flavour
Submitted Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 7:08pm [Dine in]

Drop by on regular basis, say every other week or so to this bakery. Food products are continually consistant. They offer various varieties of steamed bun products. I usually pick up a 1/2 to a doz. They also have dumpling type, egg rolls and sweet tarts. All are pretty good and are worth it if you like those types of items. Pender Street store better though.
Not really a place to dine, but they have a few tables to sit at. Mostly they really are a bakery. Still haven't found better buns with varieties.

Nothing Outstanding - Ordinary Greek
Submitted Friday, January 25, 2008 - 11:30am [Dine in]

Went to Stefano's last nite with friend, GF and son for Greek Dinner. Food a plenty and service was good. Best item is the Ambiance of the dining facility on Columbia. One of the nicest venues I've been to. Love the building.
As far as food, it was very plain and flavourless. My friend and I had roast lamb, not even on the bone and lacked "greek" flavouring. The rice, potatos, salad and pita were standard. My GF and son both enjoyed lamb souvlakia's. I tasted their lamb, and it had better flavour than mine. Might of been because of the grill effect.
Again it wasn't stunning, but management trys hard and they don't make it an upleasant evening. The only thing I might comment on is the the chefs work on giving their food a flavour pizazz. Prices and amount of food very fair and reasonable. Suitable for large parties.

Changing of the Chefs ??Where did everybody go ?
Submitted Sunday, January 20, 2008 - 3:14am [Dine in]

I think I have had one of my first experience of the mass exodus a restaurant experiences upon the changing of the chefs.
Returned to Koon Lock Chinese on Fraser for well over the 10th time. Food is usually outstanding, rivalling brother's location up the street. At least as tasty. But not today....we walked into a "dead" restaurant. It was 6:30 PM on a Saturday night and only 1 table of 3 to be seen. We stated that its seems quite right now. Usually the place is bulging with patrons and the place was not filling up at all.
After our first dish,we realized the flavour loss and plain taste along with the other dishes. OMG,this place has lost their chefs. Regular veteran staff were tight lipped and mentioned they didn't know why. The word must spread so quick and without mercy. I am sad that I experienced paying good prices for food that didn't match up to that standard anymore. I'm afraid we must be like the others and join the masses that leave restaurants to go back to their brothers.

Good, Fair Thai Food Here.
Submitted Sunday, December 16, 2007 - 11:52pm [Dine in]

Had Christmas get together with another family today at this restaurant. We ordered the dinner for eight. All the food came out quite promptly and hot. Service was good for a place that was reasonably full of customers. Taste and flavours were very good and 'hot" was balanced very well. Among the dinner set there was also a very good fish dish of a thai sweet sour flavor....very good.
All and all a very good, fair tasting thai house. Would go again.
