Posh Thai Food
Submitted Tuesday, August 4, 2009 - 2:38pm [Dine in]

My fiance and I took a friend out for her bday dinner. She was craving thai food and after reading the reviews on Maenam we decided to try it out.

Roti.. not as greasy as some mentioned but were somewhat tasteless.

Tom yum gung... very good. Generous portion of prawns and was very delicious. The balance of spicey and sour was perfect.

Pad Thai was overrated. The noodles were a bit too gluey but the dish itself was well balanced. It was missing some chopped peanuts for texture contrast.

Hanger Steak Salad.. This is definately something new and interesting. The crunchy toasted rice made the dish. I think it had too many herbs and wasn't really a salad. Red onions, cilantro, mint, steak... where were the other veggies? Cucumbers would been nice addition.

Green Curry Halibut.. not for those who cant take the heat. I was sweating bullets and if it wasn't for the beer i wouldn't of made it.

The highlight of the night was walking down the block to SCOOP! Had a frozen yogurt to sooth the heat.

Tate of Yaletown..
Submitted Monday, November 3, 2008 - 12:05pm [Dine in]

Like below, I'd tried the three course menu offered during the taste of yaletown promotion.

I'd ordered the ceasar salad, potatoe crusted halibut, and i forgot which dessert.. haha !

the salad was huge.. i was pretty full just from the appy.
the portion was huge on the halibut. I barely finished but cuz it tasted soooooooo damn good, I had to force myself =)

I didn't really check out the prices on the actual menu but the promotion set dinner was a steal.

we also ordered a sangria made with a rose wine.. it was different and enjoyed it alot.

best laksa ever !
Submitted Monday, November 3, 2008 - 12:01pm [Dine in]

This has to be the best laksa I've ever had ...

I will definately try to come back whenever I get a chance.... the flavours are incredibly balanced and would be great on a rainy or cold vancouver day...

I haven't been back in a few months but since summer has gone and past, I will frequent this place again.

I wish there was parking in the back but this is not going to be a factor that stops me from coming back.

I would have to say that if all ramen restaurants were located in the same area in town.. this would hit top 3... but since this is by far the closest to my house.. i am giving it two thumbs up.

i had the ramen set.. came with grilled rice and gyozas.. and a ramen..

Very well balanced in flavour.. and not loaded with lard like kintaro..

I'll be going back !

What a great idea !?!?!

Stumbled here on purpose yesterday afternoon. Fiancee and I walked here from downtown and I admit.. i was hot and sweaty. lol !

Ordered a smoothie each. The lychee one was full of flavour. A tad bit sweet for my taste buds but I am sure others would say this is "just right"

Green Tea Smoothie.. delicious. I am going to order this one next time. Although the blueberry caught my eye as well.

This hip and new trendy frozen yogurt bar is just what 4th ave needed. I don't know if it's just me, but drinking a fro yo smoothie cooled me down alot more than your typical slurpee...

The ceiling is extremely low by the washrooms. WATCH YOUR HEAD !!!!

Thanks for the treat.

I am not sure if this was worth it !!!!

My great lunch was gf's parents ended with a MISO HUNGRY and MISO MAD.. where the hell is the rest of my meal !!

I must admit that their awesome roll is quite awesome !!! =) but what i don't understand is why there isn't any food on my table. I was so hungry. Between the three of us.. we ended up eating one order of salmon sashami and one chopped scallop roll !!! man i was so mad ! hahaha...

thank goodness DQ was just around the corner !!!

I honestly give it a 7.5/10..

Had a bday party there yesterday. Items that I had tried.

1. bruschetta- delicious... simple, and fresh
2. calamari- a bit salty but the stewed tomatoes were delicious
3. spaghetti- american kobe... thought it was delicious BUT what a waste of a good cut of meat.. turning it into a meatball ..
4. papardella- very straightforward.. nothing wow
5. gnocchi- same as above..
6. ravioli - wonderful... the only WOW dish.
7. creme brulle- done perfectly..
8. tiramisu- basic tiramisu...
9. chocolate torte- nothing special.

the bruschetta, ravioli and the creme brulle were the highlighted of the night... everything else was just okie..

nothing tasted bad.. but i think it's missing the WOW factor !

Improvement from last time !
Submitted Monday, May 14, 2007 - 9:43am [Dine in]

Went there again this weekend and thought I would write up another review. After looking at everyone's post, i must admit alot of the issues have been fixed now. The service has gotten much better. The drinks are still coming a bit slow but I believe its due to a few odd customers who stand at the bar demanding drinks !!! Its a bit annoying when you are eating at the bar and a buzzed customer is demanding shots... wait your turn !!!!

Besides that.. there is now PATIO SEATING for you to overlook robson street ! The chairs outside are comfortable.. and one section of the patio is quite secluded.. great for a party of 6-8 people this summer..

Not bad.. not bad at all ! lol
Submitted Monday, May 14, 2007 - 9:32am [Dine in]

Since I was in the area... the choices I had were Zakushi or Kingyo... i didn't like Zakushi the last time i went as everyting was burnt and overcooked... so I decided to give Kingyo a try.

The service was great.. the waitresses were very tentative as to what we needed and came around many times asking if they could offer us another beer.. more food... etc... =)

Chicken Karage with three different salts were delicious.. wish they gave us a bit more salt though.. but the chicken quality was superb and was quite mouth watering !

Tuna Sashami... a very small portion but the quality was definately there... i wish there was a bit more lemon zest.. I think it would of brought out the flavour of the tuna a bit more !

Salmon Carppaccio.. YUMMY ! the flavours were well balanced and the portion size was decent..

Ramen salad.. i found this dish to be the worse of the night. it wasn't balanced.. and seemed to be just an assembly of ramen, mixed greens, cucumbers, and some miso char-siu (bbq pork)..

Besides that.. everything else i had was great.. i had i think two other noodles dishes...

The beer is decent priced though it doesn't compare to Ebisu on robson whatsoever.. but thats alright =) I went t here afterwards for round two of everythign ! lol

missing a signature dish !
Submitted Monday, January 29, 2007 - 1:57pm [Dine in]

I've dined at Ebisu approx 10 times since grand opening. And each time I've had a blast. The sushi rolls are original, presented nicely, and of course delicious. The chicken karage and nachos are always a great hit for shared plates over a few pitchers of beers. Yup that's right there are nachos on the menu. the food is unique and unlike most izakaya type restaurants.

Things I wish would happen...
- more yakitori type dishes. The chicken yakitori is great there but i wished there were a few other types available
- A signature dish, b/c you're menu is so large, it'd be great to have a signature dish that showsoff the chef's skill =)
- Weekly/Monthly specials based on seasonal ingredients
- Patio Furniture with umbrellas =) though I know this is in the works
- A smaller menu, a fine tuned menu with perhaps less items.. less is more... less is more.. (charming ultra commercial)

Overall, the ambience is hip, food is delicious, and the staff all ahve smiles on theirs faces =)

I'd come back again.. maybe this Thursday... and um. Saturday.. lol !
