My boyfriend and I tried My Greek Taverna for the first time last night. We were a little put off by the exterior, which looks pretty run-down, but it was quite nice inside. We were seated right away, and were told our waitress had just gotten a big table so she might be a few minutes, but she was there right away. I had the chicken souvlaki, my boyfriend had lamb souvlaki (both come with greek salad, a potato, tzatziki, and rice,) and we had pitas and hummous. It came to $35 before tip, and we got tons of food for the price. The meat was fantastic, and I liked the tzatziki. My boyfriend is a picky eater, so he wouldn't try the souvlaki, and didn't like the hummous, but he loved the pita and the rice. I wasn't a big fan of the rice, but I like the potato (very flavourful.) The greek salad was a big disappointment. The feta (if it was even feta) was flavourless and bland, and there was only one teeny tiny olive per plate, so it was pretty much cucumber and tomato with a hint of red onion. I love a good greek salad, but it's just not the same without olives and feta! My boyfriend mentioned that the plates could have been larger, since the huge portion sizes hardly fit on the plate, but I didn't really notice that. The portions were huge, and neither of us cleared our plate. I wanted to try the ek mek, but I was too full, so I have to wait until next time. Our waitress was a little bit busy with her big table, which I didn't mind (I'd rather not have someone hovering too much while I eat,) but my boyfriend was a bit irritated at how long it took for her to come by our table when we were done, and then to bring the check. I had to ask for our leftovers to be wrapped up to go even though there was a lot left, and she didn't wrap up our leftover pita, which I was disappointed about - it was a very tasty pita.
We will definitely be going back for the meat, the hummous, and the pita (and to try the ek mek,) and I would definitely recommend it, as long as you aren't looking for greek salad or 5-star service.
