We went to Bavaria for fondue dinner. We ordered all four types of fondue: the cheese, the asian broth, the oil, and the chocolate. The cheese was served only with squares of bread. It was okay but got boring fast. The asian broth and the oil fondues came with chunks of chewy meat that took 5-7 minutes to cook. The four sauces that accompanied the meat tasted bottled and unappetizing. There wasn't enough of a flame under these fondues, so everything took a long time to cook, so much of the meat was left over as it required too much work and monitoring. The chocolate fondue was definitely the best of the four. The service was erratic, and the waiter must have been having a bad day because he was very curt and unaccomodating. He was trying to turn the table quickly, so he refused to bring us more chocolate fondue! He said there were other people waiting for our table, so could we please hurry up! The bill came to $600 before tip with 6 adults and three children. The 18% tip was added on to the bill by the restaurant (which might partly explain the rudeness and bad service). Fondue can be a lot of fun and delicious, but it certainly isn't at Bavaria. We will definitley not be back. The concierge at the Chateau Whistler confirmed that the food at Bavaria is consistently mediocre and the service far worse.
