Nice place to sit down...
Submitted Thursday, December 11, 2008 - 12:40am [Dine in]

I've been here a few times, mostly just for drinks. Most of the wine here and alchohal is resonably priced. And its pretty neat place to be in, grab some drinks with friends before a night on the town, or just to wind down.

The one time I ate here we ate a bunch of items, but it was quite a while ago so I don't remember what I ate. I do remember how everything was...all the food was 'interesting'...conceptually it was pretty nifty...but realistically, most of the flavors did not complement or contrast well...and nothing was of great quality nor cooked exceptionally.

Service is ok...not much to mention about

Great Steak!!!
Submitted Thursday, December 11, 2008 - 12:37am [Dine in]

I love steaks, I eat steaks as much as I could...so obviously, I've tried gotham's. I have only been once though.

I must say, although the price of a steak isn't cheap here...its not outrageous...the quality of steak is amazing and cannot be matched in vancouver. I had the porterhouse...and it was my dinner that night, and lunch the next day (what a great lunch). My party of 4 also shared 3 sides, and 3 appy's...we were sooo stuffed. Food was superb.

As far as value...its not bad...definately not cheap, but I personally think its worth it (and no, I'm not rich...far from it actually...)

Service was a bit lacking however...when I went it was far from busy, and the waiter was not too attentive and not much to mention about.

The venue itself is nice and classy...you can tell money was spent here...All in all I'd recommend!

Beautiful decor...
Submitted Saturday, December 6, 2008 - 7:01pm [Dine in]

Its a great place for a date, and some drinks. I'd repeat even though I'm giving it a low score. The reason I have given this place a low score is it is 'Red Door Pan Asian Grill'. Having travelled to every place these dishes originate from...I must say the food itself is just ok, and for the price vs quality, they lose this one.

Service is really good though, and the decor is fabulous. Very warm and sexy. Very chic and nice cozy place.

Go there for ok food and good atmosphere...if you plan to be enlightened by some sort of asian food here...go elsewhere.

Great Deals!
Submitted Saturday, December 6, 2008 - 6:58pm [Dine in]

The food specials here I thoroughly enjoy...not because they are grade A quality (they are probably just above average in taste) but their dinner specials are fairly healthy, high in protein, and if you don't eat all the potatoes, low in carbs (their potatoes are good though).

Service is hit or miss at times, I've had steller service from here, and just mediocre at times.

My favorites are Monday steaks and tuesday chicken...

Just another AYCE
Submitted Saturday, December 6, 2008 - 5:37pm [Dine in]

I'm not sure what others rave about and are giving 5 stars for the food...does that mean this place has the best sushi in town? I think not. It might have 'ok' sushi for AYCE, thats about it.

The food is about average for AYCE, I've had much better, but thats when you pay about 2x more. Service is just like any other chinese restaurant in richmond...ok.

Value is good since its cheap and fills you up. Ambiance is nothing to speak about...its still the same renovations as the hot pot place before (so theres the hot pot holes in your table where you eat sushi?!?!)

Great place to go with friends
Submitted Thursday, December 4, 2008 - 10:13pm [Dine in]

I love going here for a dinner with friends. Its VERY cheap all you can eat hot pot (although their menu is small compared to other restaurants, there are basically no hidden charges like the others, and me and my friends just eat meat most of the time and this suffices). You can sit here for a while, eat good food over a sukiyaki hotpot.

Food is good, service is usually good (been here about 6-8 times, service ranges from ok to excellent).

Its very small, so if you plan to go there for dinner, I'd suggest making reservations!

Great unique experience
Submitted Thursday, December 4, 2008 - 10:10pm [Dine in]

The food is great here. You get to try all kinds of meat...as much as you can stuff...basically a guy's heaven!

The decor is ok, and the price for value is not bad. The only issue we had was the server cut our friends finger, he started bleeding, and without a word (it was obvious, everyone noticed when he screamed 'OUCH') the server just walked away. He then came back 10 minutes later and with a simple sorry. No other action was taken, not even an offer for a bandaid...good thing we had some girls there that carry this kind of stuff. Don't let this discourage you though...the food is good.

It was also a big hard to get any service. I've been here twice and both times was about the same.

My Favorite Vancouver Restaurant!
Submitted Thursday, December 4, 2008 - 9:54pm [Dine in]

Everything was perfect. The valet was courteous, the hostess was quick and professional, and the server was amazing. Our server explained each of the off menu dishes with such great articulation, I was drooling just listening to him talk.

Me and my other shared 3 appetizers 2 entrees, 1 dessert, and a bottle of wine. Everything was delicious, all the timing was excellent, and service was great.

I cannot wait until I get a chance to repeat!

Great Value, Great Sushi!
Submitted Tuesday, November 25, 2008 - 7:35pm [Dine in]

If you want the run of the mill sushi, with quality, and with value, here is the place to go. Service is pretty consistent, and the place is reasonably clean. Obviously this isn't super good sushi, but its good enough that even I (I have ate at Nobu, Tojo's, and numberous other Famous Japanese establishments) don't mind going there.

Good Value, Decent Service, Food is very consistent...I would repeat if I still worked in the area...

They make really great food here...all with free range eggs and organic veggies etc. The presentation of the food is very very nice...better than most high end hotels breakfast presentation. I've been here twice, and will keep coming back.

Service is great, food tastes great...easy to find parking. Only thing is its not 'cheap' for a brunch here...but hey...we only have brunch once a week at most! and its definately not overtly pricey...

Like the other posts say...the best!
Submitted Sunday, October 26, 2008 - 6:07pm [Dine in]

In all honesty...unless you want the line up, loud, poor service, and cheap food style of many other dim sum places...here is the place to be!

Make a reservation on the weekends...its the ONLY way you will get in. The service here is probably one of the best you will ever find in a dim sum restaurant. I travel all over North America for work, and I've frequented Asia in my life, and Kirin is definately up there...maybe not as grand as some other places...but for Vancouver, its the ONLY place i'd reccomend.

The food is always consistently good...the service isn't as good as it used to be when they had their smiley faced pins on their vests, but its still light years beyond many other places. The decor is nice, the place is clean...and the pricing is not unreasonable...go check it out if you haven't tried...

For Westerners, I'd DEFINITELY go here before any other dim sum place...my friends love it here as well!

For food...one of the best viets...
Submitted Sunday, October 26, 2008 - 6:02pm [Dine in]

I've been here three or four times now, but I think its closed now? Anyways, I frequent it with quite a number of Vietnamese folks as well and they all claim its very home style cooked...like how their moms make it for them at home.

I found the place to be very clean, and the service was very good. Pricing was excellent as well. Only thing is I agree with the other posts below...at times it takes forever to get your food...so if you are in a rush, and if this place is still open...I wouldn't recommend it. But if you have time, want to sit in a pretty nice looking (for Vietnamese) restaurant, and have some good viet food...this place is strongly recommended from me!

Ok Pho...Great Spring Rolls
Submitted Sunday, October 26, 2008 - 5:49pm [Dine in]

Pho Lan is ok. It has some good dishes. I really enjoy their spring rolls there, and they are probably the best Viet spring rolls I've had at this type of restaurant.

The pho wasen't too bad either, and the value is ok. Just don't expect any ambiance or steller service. I'd repeat, and have done so once in a blue moon for years now.

I don't know why samsam is so concerned with the washroom and spent half his review on the washroom...did he eat in there?

First of all...I think we need to be weary of the people giving this place 5 stars, and only have 1 or 2 posts. If you think this place deserves 5 stars for anything at all...I am at a loss for words. The table tops were greasy, it smelled weird, and the food was definately not good. We went with 12 other people, all agreed it was not a repeat...be forwarned...

Ok...but would not repeat
Submitted Tuesday, October 21, 2008 - 1:57pm [Dine in]

I've been here quite a few times. And for the price, its not bad...but most chinese foods are already not quite healthy, then when you go out, theres many places that have tonnes of MSG, and this is one of those places. The decor is horrid, the floors are filthy. The food tastes 'ok', but parking is horrendous!

If you want chinese food, and don't care how you get it, then this place isn't too bad...its just not for me.

Chic Restaurant...decent food
Submitted Friday, October 3, 2008 - 11:37am [Dine in]

So I've frequented the Keg all my life, been to Gothams...I travel a lot in the US so I do eat a lot of steaks...but I wanted to try out this place that was recommeneded by a friend.

The place is nice, very good ambiance, nice place to sit and chat, and on a date. Service was good. The food in general was just ok. The appetizers we got we decent. Yam fries were good. Scallops were quite small (just not what I'm used to I guess), the bacon seemed to overpower the scallops.

The steak i had was just ok again...the meat quality/texture was good, but lacked a bit of umph in flavor, and the overall way it was prepared was nothing steller.

Would I repeat? probably for drinks and appys...but I wouldn't discourage anyone to go...seems like others have better luck here!

Contemporary Chinese Cuisine? what does that mean? Its hard to grasp until you get here. I really cannot describe the idea...its FAR from your typical Chinese seafood restaurant, yet its still authentic unlike PF Chang's, and not pretentious without substance like Also.

All the dishes I had in my tasting menu was excellent. Its so nice to enjoy Chinese food that is prepared so delicately, and with the utmost attention to detail.

If you enjoy multi course meals, in a westernized structure, with quality ingredients...then the food here is for you.

Service here is excellent as well. The servers were always there at the right time...it felt more like Le Crocodile than a chinese restaurant in terms of service. All dishes were introduced with their respective ingredients, and all beverages were always kept topped up. It also helps that a couple of cute girls work here as well :)

The restaurant itself is in a bit awkward place, but it only adds to the ambiance...being a restaurant that strays from the norm, I can see why their location strays from the strip mall that is No3rd.

Don't think of what it is, just show up, be hungry, enjoy the great service and a nice bottle of wine and I'm sure you will leave happy.

Just....ok?
Submitted Thursday, August 14, 2008 - 11:18pm [Dine in]

I'm not too critical of most places, so keep that in mind when reading this. I ordered the Warm Octopus Carpaccio and it was quite nice, very warm, soft textured, and the garnishes complemented well. My friend had the Prawns with Chorizo and they were also brilliant. The duck was great...I'd give the duck 7/10...my Atlantic lobster was about a 5/10...definately was not spectacular, the scallops were a bit overcooked on my dish, as were the prawns.

Their wine list is amazing though, and the service is brilliant, everyone there is so professional...if only more restaurants could have this grade of service!

Overall I'd go back for the ambiance, and the food aint bad either!

The food here is great, just like other japanese tapas but their quality is more consistent than their competitors, its not the best, but its definately good. If you can get through the frustration of waiting for a table and speaking japanese or broken english with the hostess then this place is for you. Great japanese tapas, fair price, and their beer is priced quite cheap.

The pastries they make are very light and well...very good. Not the best , but still very good. Its hard to describe, they are like cream puffs that an angel made? haha, just go try one, you can't go wrong. The service is very good too for something like this, they are truly japanese trained!

They weigh each puff, and make them fresh...chances are you will get one that came out of the oven less than an hour ago. *thumbs up*
