Spicy Soup Chewy Noodles
Submitted Saturday, April 25, 2009 - 10:51pm [Dine in]

I've been coming here for a couple of years now. This past week, we've been here twice. Both times, we were greeted by a sweet Korean girl who seems to work the lunch hours. I agree that the food tends to seem more Korean than Japanese, but I'm no expert.

The menu has 10 noodle selections that each have a different broth base. I ordered a spicy miso-y ginger one that came with bean sprouts, sliced pork and a few mushrooms. He ordered the King of Kings and then the spicy chicken one. I haven't tried any of the non-spicy noodles and when I asked the waitress to pick between a spicy one vs. the pork bone, she picked spicy.

You get a good dose of MSG here, but the noodles taste great and you get the satisfaction of a long chew. Cool off with the pickled daikon ($1) if the noodles are too spicy.

The wood tables are tight if you're a big person with big thighs.

BONUS! If you're a bbq'er, next door is a Korean meat store that sells marinated meats! Yummy!

Great date nights..

My fiance and I went there after being called by them that their Anniversary Special has been extended. Check their website for details...it is a really good deal.

It didn't seem super busy in there for a weekend evening, but the food etc was delicious and fresh. The filets or whatever steak you want to upgrade to are always cooked perfectly...and if they aren't, the waiter makes sure to have it grilled to your liking.

The prawns alexander are sooo good, and the chocolate lava cake is divine.

If you don't mention the special during your reservations, or when you're seated, the waiters don't make mention of it and you don't get the savings.

Spicy Fried Chicken to go!
Submitted Monday, March 16, 2009 - 5:45pm [Dine in]

I went here with my fiance one night last week after having a craving for some good fried chicken. Read the reviews here and were on our way for the 25 minute drive.

Looks plain and very old school...Like old, old school. We ordered the 12 piece mixed chicken combo for 19.99 +tax. Surprise! The lady threw in an extra piece...fryer's dozen?

The spicy chicken didn't seem spicy at first, but the heat comes at you. Batter is delicious, not too thick and the chicken is fried perfectly with juices squirting out.

Didn't try any of the sides, per the reviews, but I would totally recommend coming here for Spicy Fried Chicken. mmmm..

So, I get a lot of cravings..
Submitted Monday, December 15, 2008 - 8:19pm [Dine in]

First, I should say that I grew up eating at Boss in Chinatown so I knew what to expect when I came to Boss in Metro.

For anyone who might be experiencing Boss for the first time, make sure you look at the little menu sitting on your table. It has a breakfast and lunch special. I LOVE the breakfast specials- you get a drink (cold +$1), eggs (any way) steak, ham, weiner (etc.), and a noodle soup of the day for only $7.95! What many people probably don't know is that you can substitute!! If you don't want the macaroni chicken soup, get ham and spaghetti. If you don't want sausage, get a pork chop. It's that easy and it's free, plus breakfast is served from open to close.

I definitely like the combos here better than Chinatown, but it has it's off days where the soup base is bland. However, in the numerous times we've been here, I can count on one hand the times I didn't satisfy my craving.

Ordering regular dishes from the menu isn't nearly as good of a deal as ordering from their preset menus. I like it here...when you don't have to wait!!

Tasty Traditional Turkish Treats!
Submitted Monday, December 15, 2008 - 8:06pm [Dine in]

I don't really know if what they serve is traditional, but it seems like it, since there's a real wood burning oven that's used to bake their heavenly breads.

I love the durums! They are pitas that are fresh baked, warm and crispy wrapped around veggies, chicken/beef/lamb, yogurt sauce and depending on who makes it, sometimes red cabbage. So GOOD!!
I also loved the chicken curry. It's different, maybe because the rice is tastier than the usual, and the curry sauce is pretty unique. The chicken, I think, is the same that they use for pitas. It's usually sliced and mixed into the curry. The yogurt sauce with the curry is pretty fabulous.

I like the deal here...3 durums 3 pops for $20.00...definitely filling and way healthier than fast food. Wait time approx 15 for wraps. The young fellow there is pretty friendly and helpful.

Good Delivery if.....
Submitted Monday, December 15, 2008 - 7:41pm [Dine in]

you order NO MSG! The wonton soup, if you don't specify no MSG, is so salty it's barely edible! Since ordering no MSG (we figured MSG was in all of our dishes), everything's delicious!! Delivery is free over $20.00 and has been pretty prompt.

We order all dishes with no msg and the lady on the phone says they will add no extra, but the BBQ meat is already seasoned.

This restaurant has the typical Canadian Chinese dishes with authentic Chinese dishes. I like the delivery here! Wish I could give it a 3.5/5 for food. Never eaten in before, so rating is just a guess.

Food for Cheap!
Submitted Friday, December 12, 2008 - 6:25pm [Dine in]

I had a laksa craving and somehow we ended up here. I ordered the singapore laksa (rice noodles, curry soup base, hard boiled egg, bean sprouts, chicken and fish cake). It was pretty good! All that and a free cold drink upgrade!

I enjoyed it so much we went again during the week and ordered the Chinese dinner combo- 2 dishes (beef & kailan and cashew nut chicken) and a free side of your choice with soup & rice. Hahah! Forgot to mention that the cashews were replaced with peanuts. We ordered the roti canai free side and it was pretty good. Fluffy fried dough with curry dip.

We haven't been there since, but I think if you're at Richmond Centre and have an iced milk tea craving, just cross Westminster Hwy and you're here. Not bad at all....and I'm a sucker for HK cafe foods.

Wow! What a treat!
Submitted Saturday, October 18, 2008 - 6:08pm [Dine in]

When we arrived, I was surprised to see that we were entering house with a fence and lawn. We were greeted by our host/server and he was warm and engaging from the get go.

The food was soooo good and portioned just so, making you want more. Having the set menu, the stand outs for the evening were the lobster bisque poured into your bowl containing goodies, lobster custard (wow!) and apple sorbet with this white chocolate ball that burst with juice when eaten! It was so unique. The presentation of each dish was flawless and very appetizing.

The decor is very romantic with chandeliers, roses, and candlelight. If you want to take your loved one out for an intimate evening that will leave her wanting more--this place is it! I can't wait to try everything!!

We usually come here once every couple of weeks during the mid week when it's less busy. You should always make a reservation to ensure a seat, but be prepared to wait for......parking. Parking is a pain and it will likely take you a long time to find a spot in their busy lot.

The menu comes in English with Chinese translations, however the order form only comes in Chinese. They are more than happy to take orders in English and the waitresses are always friendly.

There is a good selection of food, especially the special sliced beef and the pancakes. There are a variety of soups that are delicious as well. I'd definitely recommend the satay and tom yum if you like it spicy. There are way spicier soup bases, but I've never tried them.

It's a very clean restaurant and the tables are comfortable. If you go, make sure to order a jug of plum juice to cool off.

All the sauces, garlic, chilis are all free.

Meh..Better and Cheaper Elsewhere
Submitted Tuesday, August 7, 2007 - 8:53pm [Dine in]

We ordered take out/delivery regularily for 8 months, never getting too friendly with the owner. Our usual meals consisted of the dinner for 2, samosas, extra naan, mango shake and raita. Usually when we ordered the dinner for 2, we were able to make substitutions that we PAID EXTRA for ($2.00 for butter chicken), but they always let us sub the pakoras for samosas for free. The last time when we ordered, the owner let us know that we would be getting ONE samosa as opposed to the usual 2. He wouldn't budge, so we ended up going to BABA SWEETS that now has a new regular customer....and sells DELICIOUS SAMOSA's 3/$1.00. Cheapskate lost big since we ended up finding a better place for less money.

This has been our 3rd visit since we stumbled on fireted's review. Driving out from New West is 100% worth it for this restaurant's dim sum. The decor is very elegant and the food is scrumptious. We particularly enjoy the bbq pork puff pastry and the shark fin dumpling soup is the BEST. We order it anytime we eat dim sum and this place has the best soup and the most delicious dumpling that's filled with goodies. The restaurant is very clean and the server/host, Bill, is exceptional. The soup dumpling and Bill's banter is worth the trip alone.
