Went here for the first time and ordered about $70 in takeout. Tried quite a few specialty rolls but was not impressed. They are unique, but for me the flavours did not mix well with each other, and some were borderline tasteless. The place looks good on the inside, but the service wasn't great . They said 20 minutes and it would all be ready, I ended up waiting 35.
I won't go back to this place.
I've been going here for a couple of years now for their AYCE lunch and dinner. Big fan of the sushi and BBQ up until my last visit. I'm sure the dinner menu is still good, but I don't want to take a chance with it seeing how it's $20 per person.
Anyway, went for lunch and found that they had changed the layout of the AYCE ordering system. Now you order sushi by piece, meaning it's all premade in the back. The normally fresh sushi was now mushy as who knows how long it had been sitting there for. Huge disappointment in sushi quality. The BBQ was still good as it is what it has always been, raw meat. Most of the other items were still ok, just limited in selection. I won't go back unless someone raves about it.
Never had incredible food or service when coming here. Here are a few of my experiences:
Dining In: The place is always borderline filthy, and the service is rude but quick. They want you in and out as quick as possible. The dim sum is not very good, and you'd have better quality food and service if you go down the street to Dragon Place.
Takeout: Always comes greasy, but is quick. Sometimes too quick and they'll tell you 20 minutes but it's made sooner than that so it ends up sitting there and getting cold.
Delivery: First and last time ordering from this place. I ordered around 9pm, and the food, no joke, did not come until 10:45pm. I called after 90 minutes and they didn't know the proper address. So when they finally did come, not only did I pay around $50 for a large order, but all of the food was cold, soggy and disgusting.
I've been to other Hon's before, and this one was by far the worst.
Went back there today... word of caution.. the plain congee is tasteless and is pretty much rice and water.... and the waiter told me that's all they put in it too. I'm sure the flavoured congee will taste better... stay away from the plain though
This restaurant is extremely nice on the inside, however I went when they just opened and was disappointed. I ordered a variety of things and they were tasteless and mushy.
I don't know what all the hype is about, because I will never go back there after eating there. I noticed some pre-made cali rolls in the back, and some unsanitary practices from the chefs suchas picking stuff off the floor without washing hands. The wasabi was rockhard and the cali rolls we got were definitely pre-made. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Been to a lot of sushi places in the greater Vancouver area. This one has always been consistently good.
Some of the best specialty rolls: caterpillar, winter selection (winter cali, winter unagi, winter dynamite), and spider roll
The quality is much higher than many other places, everything is freshly made right when you order.
Sometimes when it gets busy inside the restaurant, the service is slow, so if the place is busy get takeout. The guys who make the sushi are extremely friendly and great you when you enter or exit. Seen some waitresses come and go, but the ones who have been there for a while now are really nice and remember you when you come often.
HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who wants higher quality than ayce sushi. If you like spicy... their spicy tofu and spicy chicken are HOT.
I drove by the other day late at night thinking to order some takeout. Went in and looked at the menu, there were 3 different ayce ones, and the place smelt like pinesol.
Proceeded to order a few things, and when I went to pay I noticed some premade rolls sitting open in the back. In the back of my mind I knew something would be wrong, but I wanted to give the place the beneit of the doubt. I waited only about 10 minutes for it.
When I got home, it was obvious that the quality of the sushi was very low.
Their deepfried salmon roll had obviously been sitting out already deepfried for a while because it was cold and soggy.
The ika karaage and tempura were also soggy as the batter was not typical and extremely greasy.
All of the rolls we got were not made fresh, it was obvious they were pulled from the premade counter, and a huge disappointment as we did not pay buffet prices for buffet quality crap.
The WORST california roll I have ever had as the filling had the consistency of paste, as if the chef prechewed it and rolled it up with avocado.
EVERYTHING was thrown out.....
I would NOT recommend this place to anyone for buffet or takeout, and I will never go back.
