This is the second time here both times my meat was cold. I had a half BBQ chicken. It was cold, but other than that okay, just okay. The coleslaw was probably the worst I have ever had. Considering the meal was $12 before my beer and there is only counter service in a nutshell it lacked on almost every aspect. The BBQ sauce was pretty good though!
I lived in Mexico and two of my favourite foods are tacos and mole.
If you are in the mood for tacos, your prayers have been answered! These are the best!!
They have Carne Asada, Mole, Fish and Veggie tacos too. Homemade salsas including an awesome chipotle sauce! 4 tacos are a full meal and will set you back $9.75, considering how good they are in comparison to the rank and file Vancouver taco, it is definitely solid value.
It is nice to get the same great tacos at Cambie & Broadway. I got off the train yesterday just to have the tacos and was NOT disappointed at all!!!
This is an old fashioned Deli. Not much has changed here in the past 50 years, except they continue to make the best deli sandwiches on the planet.
The price for a half focacia with Montreal smoked meats and fresh deli cheese is about $8, the best meal that you will be getting for $8 in Vancouver, likely ever.
This is one of my favourites!
Make no mistake about it, if you are looking for the best tacos in the city, maybe the country... your search has ended! This is the Canadian Nirvana of los infamosos pinches tacos Mexicanos. We use to eat tacos a lot when I lived in Mexico and I have seen them all, the good, bad and the ugly... these as I said are among the best. They have done an excellent job of making the place look like an a real Mexican Taquieriaa, another thing, the place is as clean as a whistle, everything... shining clean.
Four tacos and a drink will set you back about $14, given that your tacos are served on a plastic plate and you are asked to clean up after yourself; clear your plastic plates and glasses and put them in a busing tray, I would say that the only drawback would be the value. There is a disconnect between the price and the fact that it is counter service.
If you are looking for tacos and want the best in an impeccably clean spot and don't mind paying a few $ for the cleanliness and upkeep, your search is over... GREAT TACOS!
I just had the Tortilla Soup and an Enchilada, the food was GREAT! The tortilla soup was as good as I've had in a long time and the enchilada was excellent and a very large serving. The enchilada came with salad, rice, and beans on the side. The enchilada was topped off with chipotle, sour cream and guacamole, more than I could eat and very very scrumptious! I paid $11 for everything, on it's own the soup was $3 and the Enchilada meal was $8, both great deals for the downtown and great food. I just love the new carts that Vancouver has licensed, after 10 years of only being able to get a hot dog from a stand, the streets are finally sizzling!!!
The food was authentic, just like I use to eat in Mexico. I had the Chicken with Mole Poblano platar. Best mole I have had this side of the Rio Grande and as good as the mole I use to eat in Mexico. Some of the Margarita's spilled when I first went to pour it, they topped up the decanter, we never asked for it, they just saw what happened and topped it up on their own. The staff were real, very down to earth and excellent food.
There are now two Salsa & Agaves. One is a take away cafe and the other a sit down restaurant. They are about three doors down from each other, we were at the sit down restaurant. Highly recommended!
The enchiladas came with brown chicken meat wrapped in a tortilla in a gravy sauce (no spice).... still yet the service was worse. I had to wait 10 minutes after asking for the hot sauce to arrive... we had to ask everytime for a coffee refill. I lived in Mexico and am a good judge of Mexican cuisine, my modest expectectations were dashed.
This is my favourite place in the whole city. It's so nice to go to the drive for supper and avoid all the "Bling" in the downtown. The tapas were excellent as usual, great ceviche, champignones, papas a la diabla, fantastic camambert and papaya quesadillas, all the food was first rate. I took two friends who had not been there before and they gave it a 5/5, both of them. The only downside was that in the past there was a band there on Thursday night apparently the band is not there on Thursdays until May??? Oh well, if I am back before May it will have to be on a Fri or Sat. WELL WORTH IT AAA+!!!
I have been here three times, twice for lunch with a friend and once for dinner. The waitress at lunch is so nice. The night I took my friend out for his Birthday, I was embarrased. The owner or head waiter was so arrogant, he gave us our menu and then took off. When I tried to signal to him that we were ready order, he ignored me, when he walked by, I said excuse me, again ignored. That was not so bad, except the same thing happened about 4 times and it was not even busy yet. Finally someone took our order and the food was really good. On this Saturday night we were the only people in the place over 40. It seemed a trendy place for the young, god love them for it... If this were my place I wouldn't have amatuer staff with attitude turning people off because the food is well worth the visit.
The service was quite good and the Margaritas were even better. The entertainment was AAA+ (Spanish Classical Guitarist)
When it comes to the food this is what I would call "Fusion Mexican Cuisine", the problem is that did not fuse with me at all. The appetizers that we ordered were relatively tasteless. I could not detect the garlic in the garlic prawns, there was a cut up chipotle pepper on top of the prawns that was flavourless, the queso fundido appeared to be not a lot more than ground beef in cheese.
The mole chicken was quite possibly the most disappointing mole that I have ever had. I lived in Mexico and I do consider myself a pretty good judge of Mexican food.
The ambiance was great and there heart is in the right place. I think they need to hire a Mexican cook who really knows how to make the sauces and they will be onto something.
