Little Billy's Steakhouse6785 East Hastings Street, Burnaby
Great neighbourhood restaurant
Submitted Thursday, December 11, 2008 - 11:09am [Dine in]

My friends and I went to Little Billy's a couple of weeks ago. The food was actually quite tasty. A big pricey for what it's worth but overall we all enjoyed it. I had the tenderloin, not sure why it was butterflied but still tasty, loved the charcoal grilling. My friend had the lobster and seafood pasta. The lobster was a bit over cooked but the dish was overall good. Small place, kinda like communal seating. Out table was parked right next to another table, it was enough spacing between us so it wasn't an issue for us. Didn't try the pizza but will next time we visit

Nice dessert place
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 11:43am [Dine in]

This is our usual dessert place when we can't think of any where else. Their tiramisu is done very well, same with their cannolis which they seem to run out quit often. I agree with the pricing being on the high side but considering the portion it's quite big. One thing I like is no matter how long we stay, they never ask us to leave, even if it's super busy. The gelato there is quite good too, the peanut butter chocolate is very rich and creamy.

We usually head towards this restaurant whenever hubs has a returning late flight. Mainly due to the location and the 24 hour business that keeps us coming. Their food is okay, not great but their deep fried white fish with salt/pepper is done very well. Which is why hubs requests it when he lands. Food is a bit expensive. Service is okay, I find the tables and utinsils a bit dirty for my liking. Not sure why so many people dine here, probably the hours 'cause the "deals" aren't really cheap.

Solid taiwanese food

I've been here a couple of times and the food is quite good. We normally order their beef noodles, fried pork chops and veggies. Very basic decor, nothing to rave about. Parking can be a challenge in this plaza but lots of other places worth visiting such as Janice Bakery and Cuisson Coffee. Trying to make up 300 characters here.................................................................

Nice decor but........

The food isn't anything to rave about. It's got potential if they make some tweaks to it. Personally I'm not a huge fan of "fusion" food. Food is usually okay but the price is ridiculous for what you really get. The place is pretty, very big. When we went, we asked for a booth, they were hesitant telling us it's usually for bigger parties, although there were only two other tables there at the time. Even when we left, the place was only a quarter full. I'm heard that one of their owners/investors are the same owners of Congee Noodle House. If that's true, I'd rather go there for more authentic food for a fraction of the price.

Delicious food
Submitted Wednesday, June 18, 2008 - 11:44am [Dine in]

Absolutely delicious. Great value. Not much decor but the service is solid. Nothing fancy but good food, quick and fast. My hubby normally doesn't like this type of dim sum but he kept raving how tasty it was especially their noodles. If you've never been, you don't know what you're missing. XIAO LONG BAO rocks! Just drooling thinking about it, can't wait till my next visit.

Too loud
Submitted Wednesday, June 18, 2008 - 11:31am [Dine in]

Came here with some friends about a month ago. The menu isn't bad but I found it to be quite rich, lots of cheeses in their courses. We ordered their infamous moule frites. The flavours were good, however, for a restaurant that's know for their mussel dish, you'd think the shellfish would be extremely fresh but it wasn't. I found the decor nice but way way too loud due to the echoing of the room. I would go again but it's not my first choice.

Meh
Submitted Wednesday, June 18, 2008 - 11:27am [Dine in]

Well, I've been to this location twice now. The first time, the cold beverage was well executed. Second time, meh, could be better and as some posters mention, it was missing the crema. The barista wore a top that was off the shoulder, not a bit but a lot. She kept pulling her top back up and I watched her continuing to make coffee. Personally if she's touching her skin and the drinks, I don't think it's really that sanitary. Maybe it's just me, kinda felt icky and euw.

Good HK Style Cafe
Submitted Tuesday, May 20, 2008 - 9:43am [Dine in]

I've been to Ken's for about 2 years now and it's consistently good. Their malaysian style items aren't too bad. My favorite is their late night tapas (dah lang) with congee, served after 9pm. Over the two years, a couple of times, the food wasn't at their best, perhaps it was the chef's night off. All in all it's always good, very good value too.

Overpriced
Submitted Tuesday, May 20, 2008 - 9:33am [Dine in]

My friends and I went to Ping's last week. We were excited to try it out as the reviews were quite encouraging (other boards and local paper). The food, like another poster mention, how do you define authentic fusion. The price was very expensive for what it's worth. It did remind of of a previous japanese fast food joint on Robson when I was a kid, just not so "glam". Overall, I wouldn't go back for mediocre food, I can actually make a better black cod myself using Nobu's recipe. Btw, the salads they have on the entree, is also what they offer as their appies so I really wouldn't order them as a side since it comes with the meal.

Has potential to be good
Submitted Friday, May 2, 2008 - 9:58am [Dine in]

I think this place has good potential to be really good. Their flavours are almost there but not quite. I say this because we ordered the scallops, great flavouring, disappointment was it had sand in every single piece of scallop. The other dish was a veggie curry, again tasted great however the veggies were undercooked. I'm not saying crispy it was not cooked. The eggplant was still raw, barely cooked if you can say that, have you ever had raw eggplants?? Really disgusting. Overall if they take care of the little things, I think it can be really great.

Fresh seafood
Submitted Friday, January 25, 2008 - 11:06am [Dine in]

I've been going to the Sockeye City Grill for years. I find their food consistently fresh and tasty. It's not fine dining but food is well prepared. My favorite is the Seafood Hotpot. Their scallop and prawn is always nicely prepared and I absolutely love their fried calamari. Always cooked up perfectly, not chewy at all. Hubs loves their fish and chips. I normally not a fan of fish 'n chips but the ones they offer at the Sockeye is absolutely delicious!

Give them a try.

The food here is quite good. It's been awhile since I've had some decent thai food. A lot of the old favorites have gone downhill over the years. The service is a bit slow but the food makes up for it. The staff is very friendly. We had 3 entrees, fried rice and soup, totalling $33. I think it's not bad for what you get. Most other thai restaurants offer smaller entrees so that's how I compare it. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Pretty but not substance
Submitted Wednesday, December 26, 2007 - 11:49am [Dine in]

Great decor. Service, well, it was decent, could of been a lot better for the prices they charge. We had a group of 11 therefore we were told it would be a set menu for us, fair enough. However, if you charge your customers an amount per person, there should be enough food for each person at the table. Doing the math, if there are 11 ppl, there should be 11 portions of food, not 8 or 9 pieces of food items per course. Why would you charge us for 11 and not have enough food to go around? The taste, was okay, nothing wowing or to praise about.

The place is pretty but that's all it offers.

I've tried both locations and prefer the one in Kits. It's roomier, nicer and not as loud as the one on Robson.

Great dishes to choose from. I personally like the food here compared to the other location. Our friends enjoyed great selection of cocktails as well. The duck is amazing, same with the tataki dish.

If you like japanese tapas, this is the one to go too!

First of all, I agree with the ambiance and decor. It's very nicely decorated. We decided on their tasting menu. The food was good but nothing to rave about. Personally the food is overpriced for what you get.

The service, well, I guess it depends on who you ask. The server ignored me the whole time, however, he did give my friend the VIP treatment with his flirtations. I just found it very inappropriate for him to ask me (when she went to the washroom) if she's available and what her ethnic background was.

Great place for asian style food. I agree it's a bit watered down in flavours compared to the true authenticity but it's still very delish. Great decor. The owner/server Joe was very informative and courteous throughout our meal. Will definitely go back again.

Good but not great
Submitted Monday, December 10, 2007 - 2:18pm [Dine in]

Well, we tried out Connor Butler due to the vast reviews. The service was good but I wouldn't say it was at it's best that night. There were two servers, the male was better, the female didn't really talk or explain to us at all. One dessert dish, she didn't even tell us what it and we had to figure it out ourselves.

We tried the tasting menu, I thought it was tasty but not blown away. The items were very small and although we walked out not hungry but our tummies were full either.

One of the other reasons why we came here was the fact that Connor used to work at the Pearl on the Rock. The Pearl is in White Rock which is a bit of a drive so we thought, wow, now we won't have to drive so far for a great meal. So perhaps our expectation was too high. For the price we paid, I'd rather go to the Pear Tree or Le Crococile. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever paid that much at either one.
