It seems I'm not the only one who found this place has gone totally sideways. Our meals were as good as always (flank steak, venison, salsa & bread), but the service and timeliness were just atrocious.
Our server came to us with such enthusiasm every time she made it to the table - I am pretty sure it's because she was proud of herself for remembering we were there. She went back to EVERY table in our area to verify some item of their order because she'd forgotten or mixed it up - it happens, but the place wasn't that busy at 5.15PM.
There was a space of 45 minutes between two of our dishes. The staff seemed somewhat surprised when we answered affirmatively when asked if we were expecting more dishes.
When we thought we could finally get out of there, the wrong bill was brought to our table and it seemed to take forever to figure out which was ours. By the end, our 2-hour meal early on a Friday night led to a parking ticket and the first $0 tip I've given out in years.

My girlfriend and I went here looking for something in between Bistrot Bistro and Le Crocodile and really found it wasn't as good a value compared to either. For $50 more than we recently paid at Bistrot Bistro there was no added value whatsoever. It wasn't bad, worth a try, but we won't be rushing back when there are so may other options available. The wine list outdid Bistrot Bistro to a large extent, but it lacked in every other category.

I had a bento box today with a roll and it came to about $17 for one person. With the wide selection of other sushi places within 5 blocks, this probably isn't the best value. I don't think I'll be going back, but the Japanese decor was pretty cool.

We showed up unannounced during a peak dinner time on a Saturday night and the hostess genuinely seemed as though she wanted to feed us. With a few arrangements, we had a cozy seat near the window. The wine list was immediately found to be decent and not incredibly marked-up. The menu for the week was diverse with lamb, rabbit, pork and beef all available as main courses, a broad selection of appetizers and a brilliant selection of sides (we had carrots and snow peas). The food was amazing - especially for the price. Though we spent $35 on wine including taxes, our final bill was $102. The service was excellent with everyone there seeming as though they wanted you to enjoy the experience entirely. They're not trying to be Le Croc, but they're doing their own thing and it works perfectly.

Excellent Food At New Location on Bayswater - Service Lacking
Submitted Wednesday, June 20, 2007 - 9:48pm [Dine in]
Went to Tomato for a nice dinner for two... the service was a bit spotty in that it took us a while to order drinks and then eventually have our food sent over. It's been open less than a month in this location, so it might just be working out the kinks.
Our server seemed pretty scattered, but it really wasn't that busy. It took over ten minutes to get our bill including the time three people scrambled as we asked for it at the front to finally get moving. The hostess who sat us and refilled our water for a few times actually asked us if we were a party for two on the way out - no recollection whatsoever!
That aside, the food was excellent. We had:
Starter: Roasted Tomatos (5/5)
Salad to Share: Beet w/ arugula (4/5)
Entrées: - chicken (5/5)
- bouillabaisse (3.5/5)
It compared with some of the fine dining I've checked out in the city. Just need to work on the service, but there's only so much in place when you've been open less than a month.
