This is the place I come to when I am in the mood for sushi. The food here is very cheap (though prices have raised a little bit recently). I love their avacado rolls! The yam tempura rolls are also to die for. Mmmm just typing about Hachi Sushi is making me crave it... The male server who works here is really nice too!
I have been to Tomokazu 3 times, all because I went with a group. Everytime I go, I am amazed as to why we came here. It is actually quite expensive for what you get. There are so many better sushi restaurants that have tastier food for much cheaper. The main reason why I am so turned off this place is the service. Such freaking bad service!! Everytime I go, I am amazed as to how mean all the people who work there are. I don't need special treatment or anything, but at least be somewhat courteous!
Upon first walking in to Mexicali one may be a bit put off as the restaurant is usually empty and the interior is absolutely ridiculous. But do not be mislead; this restaurant is a Dunbar community gem. I often come here to get a super cheap meal consisting of 2 tacos, a generous helping of mexifries with outstanding salsa, and a large cup of yummy slushy limonada which I then take to Dunbar park to enjoy. Did I mention that I get all of this for less than 6 dollars !?!?!
Oh my gosh!! The food here is incredible. Though the place is quite small and seems a bit cramped when things get busier. I find you actually get better service if you take your food to go. We (my boyfriend and I) have only eaten in the restaurant once. The wait was actually longer and we found our server to be less pleasant when we were seated than when we just got take out.
I am impressed by G+G's vegetarian buffet idea. All the ingredients of each item are listed and I'm sure this really helpful for vegans, and those with food allergies. However after being a regular here for quite some time every time I have visited I have discovered something new that turns me off. And now I have no desire to return to Greens and Gourmet ever again.
1. The dessert cooler is next to the hot buffet. If you look you will see that years worth of gross moldy old food from the hot buffet is caked onto the side of the dessert cooler which probably has never been cleaned. ever.
2. During the summer months there are tons of flies buzzing around the salad bar
3. People are always complaining about their high prices but for some reason prices keep rising. The last time I had been there after not visiting them for a month, the buffet price had risen 20 cents per 100 grams
4. The food is usually old. The dishes that are there in the morning will be there in the evening and are only changed when they run out. The dishes that are there in the evening will reappear next morning with the vegetables looking wrinkly and old. Also if you're interested in a dessert you should really ask one of the cashiers how old it is.....
5. They really don't seem to care about cleaning the vegetables in the salad bar. I have had to pick out spinach leaves that are blackening, lettuce leaves that are dirty, and broccoli that looks yellow.
