Peaceful Restaurant532 West Broadway, Vancouver
amazing food, but incredibly busy
Submitted Saturday, April 7, 2012 - 3:41pm [Dine in]

came here around 4pm on a sunday and it was already packed with a line out the door. we waited about 40 minutes to sit and the food itself took awhile too. fortunately it was all worth it! had the famous beef rolls (which were as awesome as they're hyped up to be) and the sichuan beef soup noodles which were just PERFECT. i grew up eating northern chinese cuisine and this brought to mind the glorious beef noodles i had on weekends as a kid. granted, i haven't experienced too much of the menu, but what i did eat was so incredible i can't wait to be back. service is perfectly adequate, though food is a little slow in arriving. again, the wait is the only off-putting aspect of this place, but that only speaks to its popularity.

Just So-So

I came to this place super excited by the idea of traditional thin crust pizza with buffalo mozzarella and basil. Unfortunately this place failed to impress. The restaurant is located in the middle of cracktown but the interior is cute and romantic. The food though was so mediocre it was painful. The flavours were okay, but kind of bland and the cheese was so skimpy it could barely be classified as pizza. While not horribly disappointed, I wouldn't be in a hurry to return if ever.

pleasantly surprised!

After reading so many reviews describing the mediocrity of this place, I still wanted to give it a try. And I'm so glad I did, because it totally exceeded by expectations! Myself and a friend shared a few dishes, all of which had incredible flavour and came in good portions. The banana cake for dessert definitely took the cake though. It was soaked in a coconut anglaise and was mind blowingly awesome. Price was a teensy bit on a higher side but the ambiance was lovely on the heated patio. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Overall a great expensive and will return to try the other dishes!

disappointing
Submitted Sunday, July 3, 2011 - 5:02pm [Dine in]

went here for a late night bite and found it rather disappointing. the lady at the counter was very helpful though when explaining the menu. when our burgers arrived it was so incredibly ordinary and boring. i didn't see it as being much more superior than a quarter pounder at mcdonald's but it was incredibly almost 10 times the price. next time i'll just go there

solid chain
Submitted Sunday, July 3, 2011 - 4:57pm [Dine in]

used to frequent the browns in newport quite often and was thrilled another one was opening. decor and ambiance are fantastic and servers are attractive (obviously) and adequate. noticed the drink specials are a little different (and a little more expensive). not a huge deal but basically the reason i favour browns over cactus/earls/joeys...the $4 sangria and bellinis :( the food is very reminiscent of a typical "upscale" chain...perfectly adequate but forgettable. that being said, they'll probably do well in the area as they're still quite a bit cheaper than the alternatives for happy hour

love it!

the fish house isn't much to look at but the food fricken rocks it out like nobody's business. dishes are impeccably prepared with the most outstanding scrumptious flavours known to man. service is surprisingly unpretentious and genuine and really made the experience wonderful. value is decent considering you're getting food that is definitely fine dining, but probably more affordable as a special occasion than an every weekend thing. i seriously can't wait to go back!

been here quite a few times now cuz i'm officially addicted. the food here is so amazing - so fresh and made with perfect texture and balance. come early on weekends cuz there's usually a wait. service is efficient and brusque but it's okay, they're super super busy. love the simple and scrumptious food, the neighbourhood cafe feel and the reasonable prices. plus the chef adds new items all the time! can't wait to try them all!!

heart the cheap drinks!
Submitted Friday, December 31, 2010 - 1:10am [Dine in]

browns is a nice variation from cactus and milestones (which i detest) and located conveniently in adorable newport village. i've come to this location quite a few times and found it to be quite a solid restaurant. food is decent, and of okay value (15-20/person). love the ambiance - find it modern and charming. servers are polite and do their job but it's nothing to write home about. best of all though, love the cheap drinks here! everyday bellinis for $4! ummm yes please! there's also a couple other cocktails i like including a nice sangria. there's not alot of choice out in the suburbs but browns is definitely a great choice

Submitted Monday, December 27, 2010 - 2:37am [Dine in]

came here a while back for a special occasion. was greeted by a friendly and polite server who took our coats. then we sat and waited at least 15 minutes for a waiter to make his first appearance. literally scanned the restaurant continuously in hopes of catching somebody's eye, but to no avail. finally he comes around, offers no apology and takes our order all while maintaining a high degree of condescension and haughtiness. i guess we looked young and he figured he wouldn't be getting his usual 35% tip. anyways, tried the porterhouse and ate about 1/3 of it. while delicious, who else but a mountain lion can eat 24 oz for a single meal? not to mention it costs about $50 excluding sides. had about 2 alcoholic drinks and bill came to over $250. for this price, i'd rather have 3 decent dinners somewhere else where i don't feel like i'm being treated like a hobo

beuatiful place, average food
Submitted Monday, December 27, 2010 - 2:32am [Dine in]

society on a friday night is LOUD. and i mean club loud. sitting across from someone at a table requires yelling to communicate and yelling to order from the server. tried the mango mojito, which was good the first time. the second round was a "double" but tasted less of alcohol and somehow sobered me up. tried the kobe lasagna, which came with a good sized portion. taste was just average though. friends had the gnocchi, which was small but reportedly quite good. the alcoholic milkshakes are a bit too rich and you can kind of feel the liquor + milk curdling in your stomach. for yaletown this place isn't too expensive. the service is okay, but i felt they really didn't come around very often. the place is lovely though with cool pink chandeliers and comfortable seats

been to nuba about 3 times (once to the cafe on main) and have nothing but good things to say! the food is amaazzzzing! tried the falafel, baba ganoush and lamb kibbeh and they were all equally delicious. value is decent (about 20-25/person) and service is excellent. the main attraction is definitely the food - it's consistent, light but irresistible and comes with alot of variety. i definitely definitely recommend this place!

Submitted Wednesday, September 23, 2009 - 8:28pm [Dine in]

OMG the roti here is beyond amazing! drinks were weaksauce as hell though, left without even being tipsy after 3 drinks. menu's pretty varied, not too expensive and very tasty. we ordered a group meal with 7 or 8 courses for a set price and it was enough food to feed the circus. ambience was nothing to write home about and same about the service.

brix yaletown is gorgeous. the entrance is through an indoor courtyard-type-thing which is really cute. and the indoor seating is stylish and classy as well. the waitress we had was so friendly and not at all pretentious (considering it's yaletown). she explained the wines patiently and in detail when we asked. the appy's and entrees we had were less than stellar, but i guess maybe we just ordered the wrong things? everyone seemed to love the food at brix so we were expecting a lot more, but the food was pretty average. the flavours were not very complimentary of each other although the meat was cooked exquisitely. menu is pretty pricey (drinks $10 each) but i guess it's mostly for the ambience here

the rolls/sashimi/kitchen food is amazing! and the value is equally amazing! the service is always polite but sometimes slow, which is understandable considering how ridiculously busy they always are. if you get take-out, it's always ready super quickly and always with the appropriate sauces, etc. i love this place and would totally recommend it!

I've been coming to this restaurant for years and I think it's pretty f-in good. considering you're in the booneys with little choice for food besides denny's and mcdonald's, this place serves great sushi at great value. the ambience is pretty standard for asian places and same with the service. the rolls are huge and tasty, and the oyster motoyaki is incredible. definitely worth a try!
