My husband and I are on a quest to find the best Greek restaurant in Vancouver.
Takis is close to our house, and that is pretty much the only reason we end up eating there. The food isn't spectacular by any means, and it definitely isn't a bargain compared to other Greek restaurants we've looked at. The food usually takes about 20 to 30 mins to arrive. Often its overcooked and could use more flavor. Portions are mediocre.
Don't waste your time unless you happen to be in the area
My husband and I decided to find the best Greek restaurant in Vancouver, and Athene's was a horrible choice to start off with. I've worked in the food and dining industry for fifteen years, so I have some authority and how a good restaurant runs. The servers are unprofessional and uncaring - their performance was inconsistent from what I observed. Several times, our server would refill her other table's water glasses and ignore us completely. We waited 15 minutes before our orders were taken, even though the ratio of servers to table was roughly 1 : 3.
The food was TERRIBLE. I had a roasted lamb shoulder that was tough and salty, not to mention overcooked. The juice from the meat that they poured onto the lamb was thick and sludgy. My husband had a skewer of chicken that was dry and bland. The sauce that we were given was sour and rancid. Our pita was burnt.
Horrible start to our plan, but we will be trying other greek restaurants we've been hearing a lot about such as felicos stephos and panos
