Quick pee break turned into an extended head ache
Submitted Sunday, January 4, 2015 - 2:11pm [Take-out]

I work for an undisclosed Canadian delivery service and stopped in to this location for a drink and pee break. There was no "line" but for some reason it took a while for someone to notice me and take me to the till. I have no issues with the server that I had, he was a sweet young kid and I think he was new, HOWEVER......I will be honest and say that I am not a Tim Hortons fan to begin with. I didn't really know what to order because I am usually really dissatisfied with whatever drink I usually get but remembered that my husband got me an English Toffee before and I liked it so thought i would have it again. I ordered it but I don't know if it just off the menu now or they just didn't have what it took to make it, so I had to make another decision. I noticed on all the menu boards there was Pumpkin Spice flavor and I know I love pumpkin spice so went with a pumpkin spice mocha. I was told they don't have pumpkin spice. I am beginning to get annoyed and frazzled as I have no idea what else I will not spit out as usually I find all TH drinks taste like creamy salt water for some reason. Anyways to make a long story short I ended up with a French Vanilla (I think that's what the guy gave me). I also had to use the washroom (which was the main reason I went to this location) and was told there wasn't one available. needless to say I will NEVER go to a TH's again just to save me aggravation. I will stick to my over priced delicious Earl Greg Tea Latte at Starbucks. But I think I need to mention, it was another reason I went to TH's this day, Starbucks for some reason didn't have my drink this day either. Bly me

Iori Sushi22709 Lougheed Hwy, #620, Maple Ridge
By Far the Best Sushi in Town
Submitted Tuesday, November 15, 2011 - 12:55pm [Take-out]

I have been to Iora Sushi a couple of times since moving out to Maple Ridge from New Westminster in September and have yet to be disappointed. The Rainbow Roll is DELICIOUS and quite big. With taxes and all it's about 11.00 but well worth it. My new favorite item on the menu now though is the Seared Tuna with Avocado salad, it is to die for! It tastes like only the best and freshest ingredients are used and to make this place stand out even more is the very friendly service. Iora is quick, friendly, fresh, and delicious. You won't be disappointed with this seemingly "hole in the wall".

Thanks but no thanks
Submitted Sunday, September 25, 2011 - 1:56pm [Dine in]

My husband and I needed to stop for something to eat before shopping (you know, the whole don't shop on an empty stomach thing) and decided to go to Applebees in POCO. He had been here on three other occasions but this was a first time for me.
Upon walking in we were greeted by a young friendly hostess. We were seated and we made small talk with her, all good.
Looking at the drink menu first, I liked what I saw and honestly wanted to try a couple of things on it but settled for the Mango Lemonade - my husband and a pint of lager.
Our drinks came quickly and I was not disappointed, although I'm pretty sure my "alcoholic" drink didn't have any alcohol, regardless, it was delicious.
We decided to order from the $25 deal menu - 1 appetizer and 2 entrees. To be honest, nothing really appealed to me on this menu, but because of the deal I decided to go for the Bacon Cheeseburger. My husband had the Shrimp. We chose the spinach and artichoke dip for the appetizer, it was not bad.
The meal came reasonably quick but as soon as I saw my burger I was NOT impressed! It was sloppily put together and gotta say, had a bad smell. I asked for it to not have lettuce or tomato but added mushrooms. The meat was just sloppy and I am sorry to say but I can't find the right word to describe the meat other than it was gross. I ate a quarter of it but I was starving and had to eat something. The fries were overdone leaving them dry and hard. My husband said his shrimp was kind of dry but he didn't mind them. He said they were the frozen kind you can get at Costco.
While eating, the general manager came up to us to see our baby - he made small talk, which if it was before the food arrived, it wouldn't have been a problem, but felt it was a little rude while we were "eating". He stayed a while, I almost felt like I was being rude for not asking him to sit down. Don't get me wrong, he was very friendly, I guess I just like to eat in private and not have strangers watch.
I feel I need to say that our server was very friendly and we didn't wait for things we had asked for, no problem with the service during our visit.
When we finished eating (both of us not finishing, which is very unusual for my husband), the gm came back and asked how our meal was and if there were any problems. My husband said fantastic, but I was truthful and told him it sucked. He looked around and said he doesn't like the burgers at all either. I, at first laughed, but then thought to myself, if you're the general manger and you think the burgers suck too, why the #$(*# don't you do something about it? Isn't that his job? When I was mentioning my displeasure for the meal, I was surprised that he didn't offer any kind of compensation and didn't even offer and apology. That was a turn off for me.
I think that if you wanted a few drinks in a pub like atmosphere, by all means, they are cheap and good here, but as far as ordering any type of food, I really have to advise against it. There is a pub just up the road, I've never been there, but I'm sure it's better than Applebees.

It's a Great local Sushi joint

I was just reading the reviews to this restaurant about how it's now under new management. I have been to both OLD and NEWLY run restaurants. It's still really good it's just different. I got to know the previous owners so I guess I just miss them a little but the new owners definitely care about you from the moment you walk in and take care of you while you're there.
My first experience with them was on Christmas Eve 2009. I had my daughters and we hadn't had dinner yet so they wanted Sushi. THey were open. We got VIP treatment and even got free food to boot! The kids loved it there and frequently when we have sushi, that is where they want to go.

The food is great and the staff are outstanding in customer service.

Samosa Garden Restaurant3502 Kingsway, Vancouver
Always been a pleasure
Submitted Wednesday, September 1, 2010 - 1:31pm [Dine in]

Samosa Gardens was always a place we'd go when we had out of town guests (my family is East African, so it was "food like home"). I am not East African but over the years of eating it, I can say that I have experience in what's good and what's not on the subject.
I've always had a good experience with their food but because it's been a while since I've been there, I can honestly say I don't remember what the service was like, but I don't remember it being poor.
My favorite dish there is the butter chicken, I've tried to duplicate it and must admit, I am pretty close, but nothing compares to theirs. Their samosa's are also very good but my all time favorite food at Samosa Gardens is Mogo with chili chutney!
It's definitley worth the trip out to Samosa Gardens every time for me.

Not very good Sushi, but if you're hungry.......not much else close by.
Submitted Tuesday, August 31, 2010 - 4:10pm [Dine in]

I have been here a couple of times and each time I ask myself "why did you do this again?". The sushi doesn't taste fresh at all. I think because there is a lack of other places to eat in the area I find myself going back but at least they sell Mario's gelati.

Melt in your mouth steak!
Submitted Tuesday, August 31, 2010 - 3:48pm [Dine in]

I work in this area and come with my co-workers every so often. I have NEVER had a bad experience here and seem to always order the steak with redwine peppercorn gravy. It comes with the most delicious curried lentels and always in season veggies. I have also ordered their Mahi mahi which was also delicious. The creme brulee I have to admit is the best I've admittedly ordered it "to go" as an afternoon "snack" with the promise of bringing back the dish.
I've only ever had the one lady as a server (I believe she is Henry's wife) and found her to be very pleasant.

Will always recommend this gem to anyone.

Best Samosa's in Town
Submitted Tuesday, August 31, 2010 - 3:37pm [Dine in]

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Safari Snack House! I prefer East African Samosa's to any other and really, these are the best in town and taste home made - cooked to every order. Like mentioned in a previous post, parking is awful there but once inside you won't be disappointed.

Rivers Reach Pub320 6th St., New Westminster
Great food, so/so service but always have a good time
Submitted Tuesday, August 31, 2010 - 3:18pm [Dine in]

I live in this area so have been to this pub on several occassions. I have a group of us that meet there every couple of months or so and we always get there before 6 for their half price appy's. I love their selection of appetizers and have never been disappointed. It's always busy in the pub - sometimes a little louder than I like it but then I shouldn't really go to a pub on game night if I don't like loud, right? My bad...anyways, their food is always good and I am particularily partial to their Thai Peanut Chicken salad, it's delicious.

I've been a few times and haven't really been overally impressed with the service, but then again, that's only been a few times, their regular waitresses are normally very good.

I'd recommend Rivers Reach anyday.
