I have had the absolute pleasure of dining at Saint St. Grill for about 5 years now. My wife and I love the food, the staff, and the ambiance. We eat there at least 3 time per month and are never dissappointed. I particularly like the fact that the menu changes seasonally, so I can enjoy new favorites for a few months and then just when I am wanting for something new, out comes a new menu. The daily specials are great when I can pull myself away from my menu favorites.
On rare occassions when I have found the food to be below expectations, I feel very comfortable in letting the manager know and he has always been very proactive in making things right. For example, recently I enjoyed a wonderful seafood broth that was a little more spicy than I had expected (but still yummy). While I loved the soup, I let the manager know that it was on the spicy side. I noticed that from that point on during the evening, all the servers added that it was "spicey". This is the kind of care that I expect from a restaurant.
I often see the chef come to check with the patrons, something that I have experienced in very few restaurants. He really seems to value our opinion, and on several occasions has asked if we have noticed subltle changes that he has made. I almost feel as though I have a personal chef.
I love the fact that the restaurant is on the entertainment card and that they do not punch the card - it can be used over and over again. The food is a good value without the entertainmnet card, but with the card, the value is out of this world!
We often celebrate family birthdays and use up to three entertainment cards. The only stipulation seems to be that we all have to be on one bill... Seems fair enough to me.
Definately try the bread (baked fresh in the restaurant daily). I am always torn between the mussels (with the ever changing sauces) or the caesar salad (extra dressing - yummy). My current favorite entree is the braised pork (perfect to warm me up on a cold evening). I love the creme brulee to finish off the evening.
I use to work as a hotel concierge in a leading Vancouver hotel, and in that position I enjoyed free food at just about every top restaurant in Vancouver. I have experienced some of the best that Vancouver has to offer. Saint St. Grill is definately our hidden Port Moody gem.
