Stellas on Cambie serves up some great food. We have enjoyed the delicious beet salad which was very generously endowed with beets, nuts and amazing goat cheese. The onion soup is superb and we just love the variety of flavourful tapas especially the crunchy risotto balls. The halibut was very fresh and done just right (not dried out) over a heavenly bed of risotto rice. The staff were very friendly, accommodating and efficient making sure we were well taken care of. We always feel comfortable there and enjoy the relaxing ambience of Stellas. We plan to go back there on a regular basis as it is on our list as a great place to dine.
This is our second night this week at this fabulous restaurant. I can't say enough about the food and service. This time we ordered the greens for a salad which is always our favourite. Fresh butter lettuce, almonds, poached apples and blue cheese made with a very light dressing make this a salad something to crave all week until the next time. Chris, being the creative chef he is, had a special tonight of pork with the crackling skin still clinging to the succulent, tender meat. This is what my husband ordered and I had the duck. It was spiced and cooked to perfection and left me feeling very sated and full. We were too full to order dessert but have had the experience other times. What a treat that is! This is truly a gourmet's delight and rivals any restaurant in town or in the lower mainland. Robert is charming and attends to all with expertise and friendliness and the rest of the staff is trained to follow his example. We can not say enough about this place!
The Lava Restaurant has become our favourite place to relax and enjoy fabulous and creative meals and appetizers in a comfortable elegant setting. Aside from a few steak dishes the main menu is varied with entres of duck, lamb, Arctic char, pasta and other delectable goodies. As well as the entres, appetizers, salads and desserts are delicious and served with creativity and flair. There is always a surprise appetizer served before the meal to tease the palate and the chef, Chris is always coming up with new and innovative ideas to add excitement and changes to the menu. Ingredients are fresh and artistically presented to whet the appetite. Service is absolutely wonderful and unpretentious and Robert makes everyone feel special and comfortable. The wine list is varied and sure to please all. We go out often in Maple Ridge and Vancouver and find the menu prices at the Lava very reasonable and like to visit there at least once a week. It is a comfortable place for us to enjoy great food and good company.
We didn't mind the food although overpriced. The staff didn't have a great attitude and the music was sooooo loud for such an early part of the day. We mentioned it but seemed to fall on deaf ears. A conversation with someone near you was pointless. I guess the attitude of the place was a lot to be desired. We won't be back.
Recently my husband and I went to the Peartree for the first time. The food was very good (not much varity in the menu though) but overpriced and although the decor was lovely there was a lack of warmth to the place. We go out a lot and like restaurants that make us feel comfortable. The staff seemed to maintain an air of pretentiousness and I felt like they were doing me a favour to let us come there. The food was served much too quickly for a fine dining place and we had too many servers waiting on us so there was little connection to one person. I would have to think about another visit to the restaurant.
