Needs an updated menu and a better attitude
Submitted Wednesday, November 29, 2006 - 11:31am [Dine in]

Naam is sort of a vested appendage from vegetarian restaurants of old. It desperately needs an updated menu, a reduction in grease (most dishes are fried or lots and lots of oil and sugar are in them).

Being a vegetarian is often about being healthy. Naam seems to mostly cater to either non-vegetarians looking to try it for a kick or to older consumers who don't care so much that most dishes are not exactly healthy.

Yams coated in oil and then baked or fried, smothered in a mayonaise based miso dressing is certainly not something that anyone should injest.

Of course as everyone knows their attitude is quite poor and service is slow and rude.

There are many newer Vegetarian restaurants that are much better choices then this 'old bird'....

Radha is AMAZING!
Submitted Sunday, November 26, 2006 - 8:14am [Dine in]

I had wanted to try Radha for a long time before I actually did. That's because when I heard that they do Yoga there during the day and then it's a restaurant at night, I couldn't figure out how those two went together. I don't do yoga and I pictured a yoga studio with a restaurant inside? I just couldn't grasp the concept.

Fortunately, I finally went there with my wife to try it on a Friday night. IT WAS AMAZING! Radha is located upstairs inside an old brick building on the edge of Chinatown. The atmosphere is really cool - the floors, walls and ceiling are original (approximately 100 years old) and the space has been converted to make it open yet authentic. Large picture windows overlook the city on one side and a long bar awaits you on the other side.

Radha is extremely clean. The service was extremely courteous, fast and friendly. The food was, well it was the absolute best Vegetarian food I have ever had the pleasure to eat. They take food to a totally new level with flavors and combinations that are simply delicious.

Radha serves beer & wine, all organic selections (Natureland organic beer and varous organic wines). Their food choices range from a hemp-seen pate in a nori roll to a Vegan Napolean. Deserts range from a raw vegan bananna coconut creme cake to raw vegan chocolate with pomegrante sauce (both were EXTRMELY DELCIOUS - WARNING - IT WAS SOOOO GOOD THAT IT'S ADDICTIVE!).

My wife and I liked it so much that we took a group of our meat-eating friends there the next week. They too loved it and now frequent the place on their own.

The bottom line is that this restaurant should not be missed. After trying Radha please post your review below. I'm quite sure that you will find it to be one of the most amazing restaurants you have ever had the pleasure to eat at.

Very nice place and nice people

Don't be fooled by their hum-drum signage. This place has some of the best - and certainly the most authentic Ethiopian food in Vancouver.

While I was there I noticed about 10 customers came in. Every one was Ethiopian. I was the only non-Ethiopian there. For those of you who know ethnic food THAT IS A VERY GOOD SIGN!

My father always told me to 'go where the locals go'. If it's the #1 Ethiopian restaurant for Vancouver's Ethiopians you can bet there is a good reason why.

Their style of Ethiopian food is quite different then what I am accustomed to. They use less oil (which allows you to taste the food better) and more spices (which, coupled with the low oil gives you a very flavorfull experience).

If you are a fan of Ethiopian food I strongly urge you to try this cute little place.

The service was extra-friendly and courteous, and the price was lower then market.

Enjoy it!

Great Place - Great food - 'eh' service
Submitted Sunday, November 5, 2006 - 3:36pm [Dine in]

They have delicious food - prices are just fine - beer is nice and tasty. I just wish they'd improve their attitude. Foundation is great for taking my friends who are dead flesh eaters (sorry for the comment). They always love the food there as do I. I've eaten there perhaps 40 times in the past few years. The food quality is inconsistent but sometimes truly amazing (and sometimes they put a bit too much cinnamon in their Final Option which kills it).

I recommend this restaurant!

Delicious Simple Vegan Food
Submitted Sunday, October 8, 2006 - 9:57am [Dine in]

I first tried this restaurant about 1 year ago. I was really surprised by the simple manner in which they prepare their food and run their restaurant.

The food is absolutely delicious. Their tofu steaks are the juciest I have ever tasted - and I EAT A LOT OF TOFU!. I preferred their miso gravy over that of Naam because it clearly was less oily and had more flavor.

The Tempeh is really quite wild, I distinctly tasted liquorice root infused into it. My favorite dish is now the Dharma bowl and I then order a side of Tofu Steaks, so that I get the best of both worlds.

However, their red curry tofu is also delicious. I prefer it over brown rice (they use jasmine rice by default but the brown gives it that extra added umpf).

Dharma is not a trendy restaurant. It is a simple, delicious place to get outright delicious & nutritious food.

I have sent many friends there and all love it.
