First time for Thai food
Submitted Friday, March 19, 2010 - 4:29pm [Dine in]
Having never had Thai food before I wasn't sure what to expect so I decided to try this place I always walk by on Davie Street. My buddy goes there all the time so we some dinner there. I have to admit it was pretty good. We both had the Pad Thai Noodles which was a huge potion of noodles with shrimp. I wouldn't say it was fantastic but it was a nice change to the everyday Asian fair. The price and quantity were outstanding. I would return to try something else.
Great Steak and Prawns... BUT LOUD
Submitted Saturday, January 30, 2010 - 9:53pm [Dine in]
After wandering down Denman Street my buddy and I decided to try the DOVER ARMS PUB. They were having a steak & prawn stecial for $13. It was great food at a great price. Our server was very nice as well. The only drawback was HOW LOUD IT WAS. I mean, I love a good sports bar as much as the next guy but it was ear-splittingly loud. With 6 TV sets in the place it didn't have to be at such a high decible level. Other than that I really like the place.
Go for the Prawn Turnovers
Submitted Saturday, January 30, 2010 - 12:02pm [Dine in]
This is the kind of place that you don't go to for friendly service or great ambience. It has neither. HOWEVER the PRAWN TURNOVERS are literally to die for. It has become a ritual with my bros and me to stop there on our adventures to Chinatown. The prawn turnovers are stuffed full of shrimp in a neat type of pastry I have never seen before. Everyone I have taken there have them always want to come back for more. The service however can be frustrating, sometimes even rude, but it is worth it to get these great turnovers.
Hit and Miss Mexican
Submitted Saturday, January 30, 2010 - 11:55am [Dine in]
I am a bit confused after my meal at this taco place. My buddy and I went late in the afternoon and there was only one other person there. Our server was completely dead inside. Totally uninterested in serving us and was literally half there. We order 2 tacos with beef which were terrible and my buddy had a burrito that resembled a football. It was impossible to eat like a proper burrito and had to use a knife and fork. Though he said the flavour was ok, the service was just aweful. And the server didn't even plate the meals, instead she just put them straight on the tray [YUCK] I won't be returning here again!
Best authentic Mexican food in Vancouver
Submitted Saturday, January 30, 2010 - 11:48am [Dine in]
Simply put...THE BEST! What a great little place. My buddy and I went here the other night and had the best Mexican food we have ever had in Vancouver. I had the quesadilla with asada which was outstanding... my buddy had 2 fish tacos and 2 carne asada tacos that he just raved about. The guy who served us was really nice and friendly, the service was fast as well. For being later in the evening the place was literally packed, and rightfully so. We will most definately return.
I love Checkers
Submitted Saturday, January 23, 2010 - 12:28am [Dine in]
Checkers has been my "old stand-by" when I can't think of what I want to eat. I somehow always end up here. The food is really good, the steak especially. The stuffed mushorrm caps are excellent to. Staff is always polite and attentive. They also have great daily specials too. [Burger & brew $9.99]
What a nice suprise...
Submitted Saturday, January 23, 2010 - 12:17am [Dine in]
I'm shocked actually. I had the best seafood lasagne I have ever had here at the Luxy. I had come here once years ago for lunch but never came back for some bad service I experienced but today I was really impressed! Our server was just adorable and the service was excellent. My bro Hugo had seafood linguini with a rosè sauce. He loved it too. With a nice house salad and fresh toasted bread under $16. Great window view of Davie Street. Highly recommended.
Great, Cheap Nachos for one...
Submitted Saturday, January 16, 2010 - 10:12pm [Dine in]
I always wanted to try this little place since it is so close to where I live. They changed the name from EL FURNITURE WAREHOUSE to THE FAMOUS WAREHOUSE. Anyway you slice it, it was a hoot. The nachos for 1 at $4.95 can't be beat. Fresh tortilla chips with loads of cheese, jalenos, onions with a great side of salsa. My buddy had lasagne which was a bit on the spice side but good none the less. The garage atmosphere, chalkboard walls in the bathroom, the cool server all made for a fun afternoon. OK it's not gourmet but you can't beat the price of there food for the quality. I would return.
In a word..terrible!
Submitted Sunday, December 27, 2009 - 1:38pm [Dine in]
OMG! I`ve had some bad steaks in my time but NOTHING compaired to the terrible steak I was served here. The steak sandwich arrived luke warm and tasted off. It was so tough I couldn`t even put my fork into it, let alone cut into the thing. It was like eating an old boot. The hugh slice of stale garlic toast it was lying only added to the disappointment. As the staff stood around and chatted amongst themselves no one came by to check if the meal was good or not. Of course they knew it wasn`t. We had 3 different servers, had to ask for refills and the last server literally threw the check on the table and ran. Unacceptable! Just avoid this place, the food is simply aweful!!!
Lovely Fish and Chips
Submitted Sunday, December 27, 2009 - 1:24pm [Dine in]
I had some of the best fish & chips her at Tony`s at Granville Island. It`s a small place but big on taste. The 2 piece cod was a bit pricey but excellent none the less. It was fried in a light batter with a heap of fresh cut fries. It rates right up there with Mr. Pickwicks for flavour. The waitress was sweet and attentive. I will be coming back next time I am at Granville Island.

You`d think finding a great burger in Vancouver would be easy... NOT... but I was really IMPRESSESD with the new URBAN BURGER. For $5.99 I had the best burger, fries and drink combo I have ever had here. The hamburger was charbroiled nicely with fresh cut fried and a good size drink. I like the simple, industrial style ambiance and the service was quick and friendly. I highly recommend it for a fast food alternative to the large chains.
In search of a GREAT STEAK SANDWICH...I found it here!
Submitted Sunday, December 27, 2009 - 1:04pm [Dine in]
In this city I have had my share of awful steaks. After searching I found THE BEST STEAK SANDWICH IN VANCOUVER! Who'd of thought it would be here at the Knight & Day Cafe? I was pleasantly suprised at the great price but the sandwich itself was amazing. I opted for the side salad with blue cheese dressing [one of the few restaurants in town that has it] The steak was perfectly cooked, fresh and a nice size on a slice of garlic toast. It was topped with onion rings [nice touch] and slaw. All that for around $11. The staff is always friendly and the restaurant itself has nice booths for comfy dining. I loved it!
Go For The Wor Won-Ton
Submitted Monday, November 23, 2009 - 11:33am [Dine in]
If you like chinese style soup this is the place to go. I have eaten here for years an figured it deserved a good review. They have fantastic wor won-ton soup. I have enjoyed many a bowl here it is always fresh and tasty. They don't scrimp on the won-tons and the broth is always lovely. My friends have had other dishes like curried chicken and mixed vegetables. They were a hit too. This truly is a little gem of a restaurant.
What A Wild Time!
Submitted Monday, November 23, 2009 - 11:11am [Dine in]
My buddy and I were planning to go to Anduccis Restaurant. When we clled we found out that Anduccis was gone but a new bar and grill had taken it's place. The St Regis didn't disappoint. The place was PACKED... loud and busy with activity. The plates of food that were streaming by looked and smelled fantastic. I ordered a huge plate of mussels and my buddy ordered the pasta with chorizo. They were both awesome! I couldn't believe the price either. 4 drinks and 2 entres cost less than $50. I can't wait to go back. The service was excellent considering the amount of people who were in the joint. A fun place to dine.
Good food...GREAT PRICE!
Submitted Tuesday, September 8, 2009 - 12:09pm [Dine in]
This little hidden gem on Granville Street I just discovered a few months back. The bento box is one of the best and cheapest in town. $5.95 for miso soup, mixed tempura, teryaki chicken, california roll, rice, salada and tea. Literally half the price of most onther in town. AND THEY USE REAL CRAB MEAT NOT IMMITATION. The ambiance is lacking for sure, but you can't beat the price.
not sure what to think
Submitted Tuesday, September 8, 2009 - 12:04pm [Dine in]
My buddy and I decided to try this little burrito place in our neighbourhood. The burrito we order was huge, but is was somewhat bland and awkward to eat. The price was a bit high for a simple burrito. After we ate there both me amd my buddy got sick, so I wasn't impressed with that at all. I don't think we will be returning to this restaurant any time soon. Taco del Mar is a better deal and better food!
good food... nice waitress
Submitted Tuesday, August 25, 2009 - 10:35pm [Dine in]
The breakfasts here are wonderful and the waitress is excellent. We came for the first time for dinner and it was pretty good. I had the Sea Food Trio.... excellent except for the fish, which was just odd tasting. The rest of the meal, including the salad was great. My buddy had the pulled pork sandwich which he really enjoyed. With 2 entrees, including salad and a nice glass of house red we paid less than $40. The service was good too. We had planned on going to DIX Bar-B-Q but after reading the bad reviews we opted for a place we knew. We will be back!
