Cumpari Gelato & Caffe535 North Road, Coquitlam
Could do better if they care.
Submitted Tuesday, April 27, 2010 - 12:17am [Dine in]

I've been to Cumpari on several occasions. The first time I went I was impressed with everything from food to ambiance. However over the last two years my visits there have gotten worse. Coffee is terrible and not even hot at times. Desserts tasting like they have been in the fridge or freezer for quite a while. Had a strawberry sponge cake which crumbled easily and was dry...not to mention cleaning brush whiskers incorporated into the cake. For value, they should not charge such prices for subpar desserts. Don't know why this place is quite busy at times but maybe this is the only type of establishment in the area. Hmmm...maybe some competition in the form of another Gelato Cafe nearby will wake them up.

New Management= downhill for this Red Burrito
Submitted Sunday, June 14, 2009 - 12:45am [Dine in]

I frequented this place quite often when it first opened. Great Burritos, tortilla chips and salsa dips, good value and service. But since this place was taken over by Asian owners things aren't the same. Food is not as tasty, skimpy portions, and attitude. I guess good things don't last long...damn it.

Good find for Asian cuisine in N.W.

Had dinner at T.H. with large group. Have not had Malaysian cuisine for years so looked forward to this place based on previous reviews. The restaurant was very busy on Saturday night. Food was very presentable and delicious. The fried rice was tasty. They are able to accomodate vegetarians and vegans with slight modifications to the entrees on the menu. Servers were attentive and efficient. Will be returning to this place when craving for Malaysian food.

Saffron Indian Cuisine4300 Kingsway, #5, Burnaby
Good buffet but going downhill
Submitted Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 7:52pm [Dine in]

I've been to Saffron several times in the last few years for lunch and dinner buffet. The food is good at times but lately has been inconsistent even when the buffet prices have gone up. $20.00 for dinner buffet with very little variety cannot be justified. Lots of heavy cream in the sauces if you are into this sort of thing but little in way of spices. Service is attentive depending who is there. I do not frequent this place as often now because of this. It is a decent Indian restaurant but there are lot better ones around now.

My Greek Taverna946 Brunette Avenue, Coquitlam
My Favorite Greek Taverna
Submitted Monday, November 24, 2008 - 10:41am [Dine in]

I went for dinner this weekend with group of friends wanting to dine in the BBY/ COQ. area. I saw the reviews for this place and was curious. We tried a Greek restaurant on Lougheed and North Rd but found the food there was bland (although very good ambiance). However, we were blown away by this place. It was very busy and as we were waiting for a table I saw most people leaving with leftovers. Then I looked and saw what gigantic portions they served. Service was great and attentive. This place reminds me of the busy Greek restaurant downtown on Davie but even better. Everyone in our group gave this place a thumbs up. Unless you have dinner reservations (especially Fri + Sat) be prepared to wait...but its worth it.

Pretty good All you can eat...for now

I've read the reviews. Decided to try out the place on weeknight. It was not too busy. Ambiance is more like a cafeteria but the food and service was very good. Huge portions and quite attentive service. For $16.00 it was worth it and more. I'll be back as long as they keep up the standards. Recommended if your hanging out on the North Shore.

Amorosa Pasta House7874 Edmonds St., Burnaby
What the heck!
Submitted Saturday, February 9, 2008 - 10:13pm [Dine in]

This place is reputable based on its food, service and ambiance. Well... 2 out of 3 ain't bad. However, if the food is a miss then its not worth visiting this place. Been here many times, even have friends that know the owners. I must admit, i was a big Amorosa fan but after the display of dining out Saturday evening this place is off my list. Food is pretty bland now and pasta is way to watery and tasteless. I'm sure it is not the owner/cook that is producing these dishes. If it is, this restaurant is in trouble. I was quite disappointed in the meal but the clincher was getting dinged extra charges because I wanted to OMIT an item from the sauce. Yes, I was charged extra because I was told deviated from its menu (could have informed me of this before I made this request). What a joke! I cannot blame the server if owner/management wants to run a business like this. I am giving an overall rating of 2 only because of what it achieved in the past.

What a shame...

This place still keeps going despite the bad reviews and warnings. I suppose its negative popularity intrigues consumers enough to give this place a try. Don't get me wrong I am big fan of AYCE sushi but this place just gives AYCE a bad rap. Dirty place and poor service. Food is edible but should consider other places for sushi instead. By the way don't bother going to the other AYCE place at Metropolis, its also baaad (hmm...maybe their connected). Happy eating.

16 years...Keep trying Tsolias!

Don't know if its the server or just an "off" day. I've frequented this place many times in the past and is always reliable. Having not been there for 3 years and was in the neighbourhood one Friday evening I craved Greek food. Everything was as I remember until I we received our dinners. I couldn't believe we were served leftovers (hard rice thats been refrigerated, a spanakopita that tastes like the freezer, and lemon potatoes that clearly is not fresh). I question the server and she just states every is fresh and moments later tells me everything was made fresh yesterday. I'm shaking my head and could not believe the runaround. At least offer to replace wife's soggy calamari which was probably fried in year old oil. I am paying full price for this dinner not the 2 for 1 deal...boy business must be suffering and the server obviously did not care for what I said. For a Friday evening I expect dinner to be a least par for this place. Never going back again...just lost some business Tsolias.

Bubblicious tea
Submitted Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 9:11am [Dine in]

I've tried bubble tea at many places in Van/BBy and Rich but always go back to Dragon Ball. Very good bubble tea with lots of pearls (and coconut jelly if you prefer). Good selection of flavors and service is always prompt unless there is a lineup of 20 patrons. Ambiance...well take it or leave it but I'm there for the bubble tea.

What Happened???
Submitted Friday, March 23, 2007 - 3:44pm [Dine in]

I went to Uncle Willys Buffet near Metrotown the other day, I haven't been there for maybe couple years. Use to frequent the place a lot until the food and everything else went downhill along with all the other Uncle Willys locations. So I've been told the place has improved. I went with some buddies because they wanted to pig out and don't really care about the quality of food. I was getting ready to barf afterwards. What a surprise not only to see the place is packed but to see such decent quality food for a cheapo buffet. Kind of nostalgic like when they first arrived on the scene in the 80's. I had the usual Fried CHicken, roasted chicken, prime rib, ham, gravy, Wow,salmon fillets! Apple pie!! had to go with the soft serve ice cream. It was weel spent 2hours pigging out because the food was good. I don't remember how many time i went through the buffet line. Lots of kids though, I remember it was mostly for seniors on budget but now it might as well revolve into a family restaurant because this is such a great deal. I'll be revisiting this place again.
