This was my second time to East is East, and i find the food is very yummy. I had the platter feast with chicken masala and the saag paneer. Both were very tasty. For $16.50, the portion size is pretty filling. I really like the ambiance, very traditional middle eastern decor with the persian rugs. I do need to get used to the low sitting position of the wooden crafted chairs and table. It could get uncomfortable after an hour or so.
My friends and i went to Sandbar Restaurants for dineout 2010 and it was a pleasant experience. We had the 3 course meal and my friend ordered the wok squid for appetizer. At first i was skeptical about the quality, however it wasn't too bad. I wouldn't say it's total authentic chinese type cuisine but it's still good. My main entree was the slow braised pork and garlic mash potatoes. It was good. The meat was very tender. I was so afraid the meat texture would be very tough, but thank goodness it's not. My favourite part was the dessert. My friend and i shared the chocolate truffle cake with a raspberry sauce and the cheese cake. Both tasted very good, i do prefer my chocolate truffle cake over the cheesecake, because i love chocolate. it was just so decadent with the rich taste of chocolate.
Went to Trattoria for dineout 2010 last night. It was a great experience. I ordered the pan seared halibut with fried gnocchi. It was so good. I was never a big fan of gnocchi, i find them too mushy. However the the gnocchi i had last night was out of this world. it was a bit crispy on the outside yet quite chewy on the inside. Moreover, the gnocchi didn't taste bland, thats a big plus! The halibut was seared to perfection thought i do prefer a big more salt for seasoning. We also tried out the Kobe beef meatballs as a side dish after a friend recommend. It was good. It's very tender though im not a fan of beef. The Tiramisu dessert was also very well executed, It was not too sweet and i loved the fact the rum flavour didn't over powered the creamy cheese taste. Well Done!
Wow, i love vietnamese cuisine and this tiny place is THE place to go for vietnamese treats. My favorite dish is the savory vietnamese pudding. It's kind of like rice cakes with green bean paste sprinkled with shredded pork accompany by a light fish sauce is just fantastic. I believe is only offered during weekends??? other famous items on the menu are the vietnamese subs and the curry beef dish.
Everytime i've pass by this little store on robson street, i always love the smell the roasting meat slowing roasting. Therefore, i finally decided to give it a try. I ordered the chicken shawarma and it was very tasty. At first i thought the chicken would be super dry, because of the slow roasting but it turned out very juicy and moist. Infact i liked it so much that i went back two weeks later for anothe chicken shawarma. Next time, i would like to try the falafel wrap!
After all the reviews i've seen on the internet and on tv shows , it is only right to pay a visit to this tiny hotdog venue. I must say, it did not dissapoint me at all. I ordered the popular teri-mayo hotdog and it was fantastic. The carmelized onions, the special mayo, and the nori sprinkes, yummy! I used to dislike eating sausages but this teri-mayo is just so good. The price is not bad too.
Came to Toshi on my birthday with my family, and it was incredible. The foods are very delicious. I loved the box sushi, and the carmelized eggplant. It was so good. The value was also great and affordable. My only complaint is the waiting. I've pass there last week at around 6 pm and there is already a line waiting outside. I believe it opens at 5pm. So, my suggestion is to go there at like 4:45pm just to be on the safe side and have an early bird dinner!
Seto is another great place for japanese food! I've tried their Aji tataki and the sashimi is very fresh quaility. Their miso and shoyu ramen are not bad either. But my favourite dishes are those gigantic house rolls and the Hamachi Kama (yellow tail jaw) Lol just thinking about the Hamachi Kama makes my mouth water.....It is grilled to perfection. However, it is quite expensive.... therefore i can only enjoy it every now and then. The restaurant just received a renovation is it is much better than before. THe staff are all very friendly and polite as well!
Very good food. I always come here for lunch. It's not too busy and the prices are pretty decent. Dinner.......not so much though. My favourites on the menu are the Guu combo and the Ahi Tuna steak teishoku. The sashimi is fresh quality. Some of the sashimi is flown from the Tsukuji Market in Tokyo i believe.....so it must be good!!! However, they seriously need to hire more waiter for extra help in the dining area as well as in the back kitchen. Last time i was there, only 1 waiter was doing all the serving. But other than that, it is fantastic!
I love this place!!!! Im a regular here and it is one great little bistro for sure! My favourites are the Grilled cheese, pacific chowder , corn and chicken soup and Butter chicken. The prices are pretty fair i think. The service is great too, the waitresses are nice and polite. Parking is a little bit tough since it's on the trendy side of 10th avenue. But i usually park on either tremble street or 11th ave. Parking in the residential area should be fine, they wont tow your car.....
I went to the banana leaf on denman wif my friends to celebrate my birthday....Overall it was pretty good. We ordered the satay chicken/lamb, roti canai, malaysian laksa, and the curry chicken. THe satay was very yummy. I hate eating lamb but the satay lamb was not bad at all. It doesn't have that lamb flavour which i hate....hahahhahaa. The rest of the food was pretty good. It was my first time to try the malaysian style, curry soup base laksa. I do prefer the singapore style better, but this version wasn't bad. I would recommend to go early wifout reservation cuz that place is TINY!!!!!!!! after 6:30 this place is starting to get crowded....
First impression was nice decoration with the atmosphere. Altough it was cold and raining outdoor, the restaurant sets a warm tropical mood. I had the jerk chicken quesadilla and a mojito drink. prettty good. The quesadilla was a good size portion which a light tomato salsa and good chunk of sour cream on the side. YUM! It was my first time to have a mojito and i loved it. the Combination of Strawberry soda and mint leaves. Indeed, it was very refreshing.
We went to sala thai for lunch on a saturday. We ordered the set lunch for 2 which consists appetizer, soup, 3 small main courses and dessert. overall it was pretty good. Loved there coconut curry chicken and pad thai. However, the service was not that great. IT lacks waiters and waitresses hence always busy. We had a hard time requesting the waiters to give us more water cuz they were all so busy.
Well this is the only good place that is closest to Langara. Is the only place to escape from the overpriced food at the school. I really like their Paneer Pakoras and Vegi samosas. Very cheap too! so YAY $3 u can get 2 pakoras and 2 vegi samosas. Haven't try their vegi buffet yet perhaps other time!
