Fish Market Restaurant, The54 York Street, Ottawa
Needs updating
Submitted Sunday, February 1, 2015 - 12:25pm [Dine in]

The Fish Market has so many good things going for them. Not only is it in great location in the Byward Market, which makes for a perfect spot to bring tourists and people from out of town, but the view if seated by the window is incredibly nice. This used to be one of my favourite restaurants for seafood (who could argue against their lobster?) but the quality has gone downhill since my last visit. Service is still good but one does feel like they are paying more than what they are getting in return. The decor is tired and could do with some updating.

Anton's Pasta Bar4260 E Hastings Street, Burnaby
Not just quantity served here, but quality
Submitted Thursday, January 29, 2015 - 11:08pm [Dine in]

Saddened to see such negative reviews for Anton. I really like it for the quantity AND the quality. And it seems to me that many others in this city do so as well, as there always is a line. I had lunch here recently and had to queue outside the restaurant for a seat. And as for the quantity, take me seriously when I say that the portion sizes are extra large. If you eat here, most of the times you will end up with a take-out portion that can easily last you two or three days.

The pasta is delicious and so despite it being expensive you don't mind spending a bit extra for it. I have not been able to try everything on their menu because it is so extensive but one dish I really enjoy is the linguine alla siciliana, which is linguine with red peppers, and anchovies. They also add olives in a very spicy tomato sauce, which is mouth-watering good. The ambience is very nice and relaxed, which is partly set by the waiters themselves, always cheery and happy-go-lucky.

Bin 941 Tapas Parlour941 Davie St, Vancouver
This is an example of how music sets the mood
Submitted Thursday, January 29, 2015 - 10:35pm [Dine in]

Bin is one of my favourite restaurants in Vancouver. Ever since I discovered this little restaurant tucked away in downtown I haven't stopped coming - it's going to be three years now. Whenever I come to this city, I like to stop at least once, even if it means having to go by myself. The food is exquisite (love the braised short ribs and pomme frites) and contrary to popular belief, their tapas are quite large, almost entree or main course size.

This time around though, I didn't really enjoy myself as much. I went with a party of three on a Wednesday nearing 7 pm and so seating was not a problem. The prices of the food and drinks had increased as expected, but the noise was unbearable. The music was extremely loud and very clubby, which did not make me and my friends happy. We could barely hear each other and felt like we were at some club and not here for dinner.

Our experience the second time around here
Submitted Monday, January 26, 2015 - 11:24pm [Dine in]

We were here for dinner first in May and felt that I didn't get the proper attention despite having made a reservation. I was a bit disappointed; the food took 30 mins to arrive, but in their defence the restaurant was full. The second time around though was last week, and oh what a difference it was. The restaurant was like half full and the owner greeted us and sat us down.

Once they took our order, the food still took a while to arrive, but our waiter kept checking in on us for snacks (calamari) and drinks. The lamb tikka and chicken curry was what we had this time around. Both were good, especially the chicken curry. It was very creamy and rich in taste, and made a perfect pair with the rice and naan. We took some naans come and ordered some more to go because they were so delicious.

I guess I would not mind coming back here again. The service was very good thanks to our waiter and the food was as well. Price-wise speaking, it was normal for Vancouver's standards. The portion sizes added up to what you were paying for. Second time's the charm?

Earnest Ice Cream3992 Fraser Street, Vancouver
Exclusive and expensive
Submitted Friday, October 31, 2014 - 7:58pm [Take-out]

Open only four days a week and with the prices they charge for an ice cream, this is definitely one of those places that wants to differenciate themselves as high end, upscale food.

Other than that, the ice cream is good. I had the london fog and really liked it, but im not sure I would come back.

Colonnade Pizza & Restaurant280 Metcalfe Street, Ottawa
My safe choice
Submitted Friday, October 31, 2014 - 2:48am [Take-out]

Colonnade Pizza for me is what I order when I am craving a mediterranean pizza. No one makes it as good as here. There are also other flavors as well that are good, like the sante fe. This one comes with hot banana peppers for example. Add extra cheese, and you get a delicious pizza. I have never eaten here, just ordered take-out by the way.

8 Locks' Flat191 Colonel By Driver, Ottawa
Great view, great hangout
Submitted Friday, October 31, 2014 - 2:38am [Dine in]

8 locks has entered my book and become one of my new favorite hangout places. The view here is unparalleled: after all, it is located right next to the canal. I love coming here and just relaxing in the patio, enjoying the view while sipping on some beer. This is where I love to frequent especially in the summer. Yeah, my idea of heaven.

Food is alright but nothing to write home about. To be quite honest I don't really come here for the food, but more so for the ambience. Nonetheless, their salads and soups are something I order a lot.

Finally,my only tip or piece of advise would be to come by foot or bike, not by car, as parking can be tricky.

Afghani Kabob Express249 Bank Street, Ottawa
NOT another Shawarma place
Submitted Friday, October 31, 2014 - 2:24am [Dine in]

Why are there no reviews for this place???

I am thankful for places like these that give Ottawa residents a chance for a change. While this can be confused and passed off as just another shawarma place (which are quite in abundance if you may ask), it is not. This little hole in the wall provides outstanding Afghan food. The meats are considerably superior in quality and gives all the other places in the area a run for their money.

I love getting the lamb kabob with quorma. For $15 like the one for this plate, prices are reasonable and maybe even a little cheap. I mean, each plate comes with a series of other stuff: naan, rice and a nice salad.

Di Rienzo111 Beech Street, Ottawa
#1 Sandwiches in Ottawa
Submitted Friday, October 31, 2014 - 2:01am [Take-out]

It might not be the best looking for most attractive place in Ottawa, but it still manages draws a crowd. How, you may ask? Answer:Their famous sandwiches! There's a reason why Dirienzo is so popular in Ottawa. It combines everything someone wants when they just want to get a quick bite to eat: fast service, inexpensive and most importantly good.

Although it is important to note that not only do they sell sandwiches here, it is what they are mainly known for. There is also a series of pastas to choose from. Going back to the sandwiches though, they are $5 goodness. I liked going for the #10 with marbled cheese.
