Estrella's Montreal Deli5932 200 Street, Langley
A Pleasant Surprise in Langley
Submitted Tuesday, May 29, 2012 - 10:02am [Take-out]

Went to Estrella's for the first time the other day. I tried the classic smoked meat sandwich, and was VERY happy. I've tried some other places in Vancouver (kosher delis, etc) and hands down, Estrellas is the best. Surprised? I am too. The meat was juicy and tender (no chewy/fatty bits), and the fries were pretty good too. I did take out, the deli is pretty small so if you want a seat you'll want to get there early to beat the lunch rush.
Prices are very reasonable, I'll be going back to try some of the paninis very soon.

Good, maybe great.
Submitted Saturday, October 29, 2011 - 10:44pm [Dine in]

Went to Montana's for the first time on Friday night and had a positive experience all the way around. We arrived early-ish, around 5:30 and did not have to wait for table, but by 6:00 the restaurant was completely full. While there was a bit of a wait towards the end of the meal (when the most diners were there) for our server, the staff seemed energetic and friendly.

The menu had a lot of food that I want to try at some point. I'm a meat and potatoes type of person, so this was right up my alley. My husband and I tried the Portabello Steak and it was great. Big portions for a reasonable price, our meals came out to just over $25 per person (no dessert).

If you are looking for quiet/romatic/adult-oriented dining, this might night be the place for you.The restaurant got pretty loud as it filled up, and there were a number of young families there, so it's a bonus for those with kids.

Everything I wanted in a Donair!
Submitted Tuesday, October 25, 2011 - 1:52pm [Take-out]

I tried Donair Hut today because I read the good reviews and wanted to try it out myself.
My order was prepared quickly by a friendly lady, and within 5 minutes I was on my way. Despite not being able to sit down to my meal for about another 30 minutes, this was still the best donair I've EVER had, I can only imagine what it would be like if I had it fresh out of the kitchen. Yummm!

I ordered the Beef Arabic Donair, that plus a drink came in under $10. The meat was juicy and full of flavor, the pita was soft (not leathery like some can be), veggies were fresh and the sauce and herbs were just spot on. You can really tell that a lot of care has been taken into making the recipe just right. There weren't any overpowering ingredients, and nothing was skimped on either; just a perfect balance of great flavors and textures.

Filling. Delicious. Well-priced. Go get one!

Worth the wait!
Submitted Friday, October 21, 2011 - 10:30pm [Dine in]

My friend wanted to try Ethiopian food for the first time, so we gave Ziada a try.
The restaurant has a very family-run feel to it. Our server was very friendly and gave us some advice about what we would like best, particularly when it came to the spiciness of the dishes. He recommended some dishes that could have the spiciness adjusted to our liking, which was greatly appreciated.

The only thing "iffy" part of our experience was the wait time between ordering and actually receiving our food. It took well over half an hour to get our food. We didn't mind this time because we had time to kill and were enjoying our conversation, but if we were at all pressed for time, I don't know how forgiving I would be.

Anyway, when the food did arrive, it was heavenly! The meat was juicy and absorbed the delicious spices and the injera was tangy and fluffy and oh-so-good. The portions were VERY generous (we had to take home the leftovers) and each meal was $11, so you definitely get your money's worth. Check this place out! I'm already planning my next visit.

Milestone's Grill and Bar20075 Langley Bypass, Langley
Good food, Good Service
Submitted Thursday, September 8, 2011 - 7:51pm [Dine in]

For me, Milestones is the go-to place for consistently good food and friendly, efficient service.
Tonight was no different. Our server was attentive and covered all of the bases. Our dinners were fresh, flavorful and visually appealing, which is no small feat considering I ordered meatloaf.

I do find the prices are a little high ($20 for meatloaf is a little steep no matter what), but it's great for birthdays etc. It definitely isn't fine dining, but it's a good choice for a mid-range restaurant. Yum!

Solid all the way around.
Submitted Tuesday, September 6, 2011 - 10:50pm [Dine in]

Went for lunch and the restaurant had maybe 6 other tables full. All of the staff were friendly and made every effort to make us feel welcome and looked after. I thought the way the dining room was decorated was great: old photos of Mexican characters and festive decorations everywhere was very bright and fun.

The food took a little bit longer than I expected, but it had a nice fresh flavor and the portion sizes were reasonable for the price (just under $10 per person for food). The food had a very "homemade" feel to it, a welcome change from the fast food stuff that you get from the big chains.
Look forward to going back soon.

I WANTED to like it, but.......
Submitted Thursday, September 1, 2011 - 9:50am [Dine in]

Went for the lunch buffet yesterday, and was quite disappointed in the food. The buffet was very modest, just 4 hot items to choose from, and every item was bland and only tasted of salt or butter. I didn't have to worry about eating too much because one plate was more than enough.

On the bright side, the service was very good and the restaurant itself was VERY clean and welcoming. I am hesitant to go back, but if the off-the-menu items are better than the buffet, I MIGHT give it another chance since so many other people have raved about it.

BBQ made with love
Submitted Friday, August 12, 2011 - 4:06pm [Dine in]

Went for lunch and tried the lunch special: pulled pork with sausage sandwich. Delicious and very filling. The BBQ sauce had a unique zing to it. The fries weren't my thing: too thin and crispy but still tasted good. The server was very friendly and the food came out hot and fast and good.

The lunch time crowd was pretty light, easy to get a table and served right away.

BBQ Done Right
Submitted Thursday, August 11, 2011 - 9:37pm [Dine in]

My family and I had our first Ozarks experience this evening, and we hope to make return visits soon. We got there early (around 5:00) and for our whole visit there were maybe two or three other parties besides us, which was very surprising considering how delicious the food is.

The portions were VERY generous, two of us had to take home leftovers. Our group ordered the ribs, pulled pork, chicken, and brisket and they were all fantastic. The meat was flavourful and oh-so-tender, and the side dishes were just as good (I even liked the coleslaw!). The average meal come to about $20 per person, but it was worth every penny.

The staff was very friendly and attentive, and the restaurant had a very laid back and family-friendly vibe which we appreciated with our young son. If you are looking for some great BBQ, this is the place to be!

Impressed.
Submitted Friday, July 8, 2011 - 10:34pm [Dine in]

We went to Denny's for breakfast on a Saturday. The place was busy but we were seated right away and our server took our orders quickly. Our meals came out in NO TIME. They were hot and fresh and delicious. Our server seemed to be near by whenever we needed her and she was friendly and attentive. I was worried that our one year old son would get bored and make a fuss, but everything happened so quickly, he didn't have a chance. Very impressed with Denny's.

Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken20162 Fraser Hwy, Langley
Pretty good chicken.
Submitted Friday, July 8, 2011 - 10:23pm [Take-out]

Tried Lee's for take out the other night. The place was dead, I was the only customer. The complete lack of updating both inside and outside the place made me a little hesitant but I gave it a try anyway. The young guy at the counter was a little sullen, but I think he was just bored. There isn't much to the menu; just chicken and a few sides and that's it. HOWEVER, my order came up super fast and it was fresh and tasty. A lot of zing in the batter, and it even tasted good as leftovers the next day. The only thing I didn't dig was the gravy, it didn't have a lot of flavor. Like the big name competitors, I think fried chicken is a little over priced, but it's nice as a treat.

La Taqueria322 W Hastings St, Vancouver
AWESOME Food... But pricey
Submitted Sunday, February 6, 2011 - 9:46pm [Dine in]

Went to La Taqueria for the first time this weekend. Was initially a little put off by the limited seating, but the "hole in the wall" charm grew on me within a few minutes.

The gents behind the counter were great. Passionate about the food; very helpful with helping me and my group decide what to order. The food was prepared VERY quickly and DAMN was is good. The little tacos were hot, fresh, and tasty. Best part about the meal was that you have a good selection of toppings to choose from, and they all seem to be delicious.

One thing that is a bit of a minus in my books was the price. For the tacos and beverage it came to just over $12. The food was delicious, but you don't get very much of it. I was starving when I got there, and I found the tacos just barely satisfied my hunger pangs. After leaving and walking about 2 blocks I was hungry again, and I'm not even a big eater. So the only suggestion I can give is go when you have a little extra cash to burn, and maybe not when you are too hungry.

I'll definitely go back now and then as a treat, but eating there too often would definitely add up after a while.

More people need to eat here!
Submitted Tuesday, October 27, 2009 - 11:31pm [Dine in]

Very impressed with this cozy little restaurant. My husband and I were the only customers for the time we were there (6:00 on a Tuesday evening), which is a shame because this is one great place to eat. The staff were quiet and friendly, and our food was served promptly. We both ordered the non-vegetarian platter; I recommend this because everything on the menu looks good and it gives you a chance to sample several dishes at once. The portions were extremely generous. My husband was barely able to finish his meal, and I had plenty of leftovers to take home. Our bill was under $30 and it was worth every penny.

Good food. Iffy service.
Submitted Saturday, September 26, 2009 - 11:19pm [Dine in]

We landed at Hell's after giving up on 3 other restaurants that had long line-ups to get in for lunch--the Kits area is overrated if you ask me, I don't know why people flock there. The restaurant was busy but we were seated right away and our food was surprisingly fast. The food was tasty and very reasonably priced. I wasn't a fan of the restaurant's set up: the tables were very close together and there was very little privacy. Service was speedy at the beginning of our meal, except that we had different waitresses come up and ask if we wanted drinks, but we had to wait to actually place an order. The prompt service seemed to disappear when it came time to leave. We were in a hurry and the waitress asked if we wanted our bill and we said yes. She left and proceeded to do everything EXCEPT for get our bill, it seemed she had completely forgotten until over ten minutes later she looked over and saw us still waiting there. Overall it was a good experience, we just won't go back when we are pressed for time.

Boathouse Restaurant, The900 Quayside Dr, New Westminster
Pleasantly surprised!
Submitted Sunday, August 23, 2009 - 8:53pm [Dine in]

My husband and I took some guests from out of town to the Boathouse in New West last night. Our reservation was for 5:45 and we were promptly seated. Throughout the night the staff were always available and very friendly. The food was very good; decent portions and full of flavor. Towards the end of our meal the restaurant had really filled up, and there was a bit of a wait for our dessert but we were enjoying the relaxing evening so it didn't matter very much. If we were in a hurry to leave, it might have been a problem so be sure to give yourself enough time to really enjoy the meal. I think the prices are quite reasonable for what you get, quality seems to be a high priority there.
We will definitely go back!

Good value
Submitted Friday, July 17, 2009 - 10:00pm [Dine in]

I frequently go to the Noble Grill for lunch and am impressed with the quality of the food, especially for the price. I've sampled quite a few things from the menu, and the fresh flavors keep me coming back. The staff are super friendly and very efficient, wait times are minimal. All of my meals have been under $7, which is good for food court food without the food court food taste.

PS: I gave the ambience rating at 2 because its located in a food court, so its a little noisy and hard to find seating at lunch time, otherwise they have a solid rating in my books.

White Spot4129 Lougheed Highway, Burnaby
Worst White Spot. Ever
Submitted Friday, July 17, 2009 - 9:47pm [Dine in]

My White Spot experiences vary according to location, and usually I am happy with what they have to offer. This was, by far, the worst Spot experience. While the servers were friendly, it took a very long time to get our food, and we only ordered burgers. My meal was decent, but my companion was very disappointed; over $10 for a plain burger that doesn't even come with lettuce and tomato?

The main reason for our visit was the summer blueberry pie. It took about 15 minutes for the pie to arrive and it was definitely NOT worth the wait. The presentation left us under-whelmed: the crust was broken in several places and it looked like a few pieces were missing, the blueberries were mostly flavorless and the "whipped cream" tasted like lard and was splatted onto the plate.

The restaurant itself desperately needs a makeover, as well as a new air conditioner; it was terribly hot and hard keep an appetite while sweating into the vinyl seating. I don't know how this location has stayed in business for so long. Skip it altogether and maybe someone will take a hint.

Great portions, reasonable prices, flavorful food and good service! I had the Bangers and Mash, my husband had the steak and we both thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The menu has traditional pub fare, along with some more exotic dishes so there is something for everyone. Definitely will go back when I'm in Victoria!

Great Breakfast!
Submitted Thursday, June 25, 2009 - 2:34pm [Dine in]

I was a little hesitant to have breakfast at Vic's, thinking the food would be over-priced with small portions. Not in the slightest! The portions were great and the food was delicious! The serving staff was friendly and attentive, no waiting around for service. I had the eggs benny with steak, and highly recommend it.
