Expected so much more for at least one of the ratings!

It took my friend and I four attempts to catch place when it's open. We were treated to an interior that feels like it all came from value village. The staff were very courteous, so fair enough, perhaps - we thought - the food will be outstanding and compensate for the lackluster first impression. We had pancakes, which felt like they were lying around for a while - a bit soggy and really greasy. Then came the appetizers - some rice with stuffing, wrapped in a banana leaf, and some malay boiled eggs with fish topping. The rice was dried out outside of the appies. Then came the main dish I was really anticipating - laksa. It was not lacking in fish cake, or chicken, or other items... it was just... well it tasted like it was just all the ingredients mixed into some cold water, than zapped in a microwave. There was none of the fresh spice flavor, nor coconut/milky taste.
There are other, much better places, (albeit scarce and far between), for delicious Malay food in Vancouver.

Avoid on busy nights and don't use for Bday parties.

The good: the place has pretty good food for the price, and a cozy interior.
The bad: the service is insufferable at times. Been there 3 times during last 3 years, and consistently got crappy service. Most recent visit: The management screwed up our reservations (made 1 month in advance!!!), and instead of apologizing, were talking to us in condescending manner along the lines of "you are lucky you got the seats - we had to turn down 40-60 people tonight already".
The staff only brought a wine list after being specifically asked for it. It was funny to watch the waiter de-cork a cheap bottle of table wine with the full protocol of sampling etc. after neither him, nor the person that took the order even knew how to pronounce the wine's name: "Piat D'Or" (it's "pea-at-door", not "pee-at-dee-or", kids).
The place felt overcrowded. The lights seemed to brown-out quite often, as if they were zapping the food in a microwave in the kitchen. No table service at all - a friend had to flag down a waiter to order a beer, and never got it. Ours was not the only table with this sort of treatment that night. They missed a lot of money from liquor sales with our group.
OH... and get this. We had a birthday party, and some tables had empty spots because several people were running late. The manager told us that we could not order food until the table was full... WTF?.. - everyone was paying separately anyway? These guys need a better point-of-sale system, or something, i suppose. Overall, a weird experience. Won't be going back there.
